Guide / Tutorial Nutter’s explorers guide to the Galaxy

i found system where black hole is about 350k Ls from the main star and HMC is another 36k Ls from the black hole.
those are rough numbers since i am not in game atm and cant check exact distances.
system is called HIP 18175
Haven't found a black hole, myself, yet. Heck, I'm still within range of civilized space for pirates to interdict me. I'm slowly and methodically making my way in the general direction of the galactic core. I think the most exciting single objects I've found are a few super-giants. I've explored one a while back and I'm coming up on two others in the session I'm playing right now. 39 Omicron Ophiuchi and HR 6472.

there it is ;) no screenshoot in realtime flight tho :/ woukld also be nice if we could zoom out so can take pic of whole system at once.

It is possible to take two or more screenshots and then use software to stitch them together. It does require a bit of messing around though...

In other news...

I intend to be outside the Bubble Nebula tonight - 9 Hours from now.

If you want a picture of your ship in front of the Nebula you best get cracking! :)

I'm heading in the opposite direction at the moment...but do let me know how close you can get to the Bubble Nebula. I haven't gone there yet, it looked to me as though the nebula would look very small, with no way of getting particularly close. Hopefully I am wrong on that... :)

You can go inside it! - It's a Lot bigger up close trust me! :D - Best views are just outside it - Taking Video this time!

Thanks for all the excellent info in this thread. I'm starting to fit out a Hauler so I can head 'that-a-way' as soon as possible :)

Have Fun,
Jintosh

Stopping back in to say 'Thank You' and the help did not go to waste.

My thanks to Nutter's guide, some cool videos from Granite, friendly peeps answering my silly questions and all the others that have given their time to be so very helpful.

I have finally done it... Brand new Asp explorer, advanced scanner, detailed scanner and a B5 shift drive
(be some time for 5mil on the A5 drive)

Off on my very first exploration voyage...
LHS 3447 system (love a good 10% off sale lol) heading out to Barnard's Loop.

Barnard's loop here I come!!!
(trapezium sector AF-Z co)

Currently at Wolf 1346, only 1468.8LYs to go!

Stopping by the pleiades or the taurus dark region? Here's one not to miss, and it's well worth the time to not miss a scan. I won't spoil the surprise.

Taurus Dark Region QT-R B4-0 at -120:-141:-440

Nooo, I already went there and am in Running Man nebula now. Missed that system :(

On my way home from my first exploration trip (Mintaka black hole then Vy Canis Majoris and back towards Sol). Picture taking possibilities were a bit shoddy so I ended up in Open play to see if I'd meet someone, but not happened yet. Thanks for your great info guys, that sheet that shows all the planets etc. is a helpful reminder.

I can only describe one feeling, and that is my utmost respect for anyone that goes 10k ly and above while they keep scanning systems. I have a decent routine now already though, pretty much know what to scan and I don't travel over 5k for anything but a black hole or earthy stuff.

If I somehow don't make it back to sell the data I know I'm going to go bats**t insane though. And this is on a short trip. Maybe this isn't for me :)

I am almost in the region you are heading. Just making a small detour to one neutron star. Maybe we will meet somewhere. ;)

After about 18k travelled, 700 systems scanned, I've started noticing cracks in my windshield. Should I be worried, abandon my tour and head straight home?

My hull is at 76%, Thrusters and power plant at 90%, no clue where I can see the ship integrity or canopy status. Am I doomed? Currently at NGC 884, 7.6K from Sol.

Yes, you should be worried. It isn't possible to view canopy status anywhere aside from the obvious visual indicators!

It won't get worse by itself, but if you take more damage it may crack and then you'll be doomed.

I'm also looking for DZ white dwarfs (indeed any other types than DA, DC and DQ) and any variations on W, C and S stars.

Dunno if you've visited it, but there is a W star along with a DA at HIP 99982, which is just 500 ly from Sol. Also lots of W's in this list with HIP/HD numbers, I located 4 others in the general area of the elephants trunk today give or take 2k ly's, not visited them yet though to confirm whether they really do exist in game or not though. http://pacrowther.staff.shef.ac.uk/WRcat/
