Nvidia 3D Vision

Yes, I have the Asus VG278 27 inch 120hz screen with 3D IR output and Nvidia 3D shutter glasses to go with it. Really sad that I can't use them with ED. I'd love to see a full 3D rendition while I'm playing. I could easily run my screen at 1920x1080 with 3D

Occulus seem OK but it's really bad res considering the price tag of 350 bucks.

I looked into the Oculus Rift thing and it seemed like a headache. Not to mention that it is giving people motion sickness like crazy.

It's just weird that FD went with that 3D tech over tech that a lot more people have. Also 3D Vision is a more mature platform.

The problem with Oculus Rift for me is that you can't see the keyboard when you play, at least not the version of it I've seen. I can't say I haven't been tempted to get one but the madness wears off fast. :)

I feel the same way. Plus I love using the NVidia 3d with the TrackIR Pro 5 I have. It's a really nice setup for FSX. I just wish that the 3D worked with ED the same.

Anyone know if this is something that they are working on or is this just wishing at this point?

nVidia 3D Vision

Hello there, I know this has been brought up several times, but I have not found any definitive answers about this.
I want to suggest E:D to support 3D Vision. Like Rift users and 3D Vision users know, it increases the experience 1000000-fold.

Every time I fly around and see stars, asteroids, dust, or whatever, I think "oh, that looks pretty cool" and I just know that with 3D Vision I'd be saying "my god, that's amazing".

So, 3D Vision support. Is it coming? Soon-ish? I just can't help myself from thinking "This would be so insane in 3D".

Elite Dangerous and 3D Vision support would be like the prettiest girl in the neighborhood telling you she fancies you!
Amazing and just about the best thing ever!

I hope you get your added 3D support, but please don't expect too much from it. I've played Elite using the side-by-side mode. Although it makes the cockpit look gorgeous, it doesn't add much to the images outside the window. This has more to do with limitations of reality and not the game itself. Back in the old days, people thought that the whole of the heavens was set on a solid dome that wasn't too far out of reach. This is the same effect you get when looking out of your spaceship window.

A big bonus is that your scanner becomes easier to read.

If 3D Vision is properly implemented it should be awesome to see asteroid fields, ships, docks, bases, etc, out of the window.
A lot of space is just dark and far far away so that'll be rather unexciting, but it's those few things where you really get a sense of it all immersion-wise that make it worth it :).

Frontier Developments put a lot of effort into their cockpits. I wonder if the console versions of the game are going to support 3D tellies.

Stereoscopy only works well on short ranges. You can make stereoscopy work (sorta) for stars and planets, but the results will be very cartoonish and in no way realistic. For realistic view you would only have your cockpit in 3D and the rest would be just flat background, may be with the exception of some station structures when you get really close.

Yup. It's this contrast of the vast expanse of nothingness and the ships/stations you pass by (and the missiles, lasers, and bullets) that makes it awesome.
It will make space feel vast. It will make asteroid fields and dustrings feel like many individual asteroids/dustspecks instead of a field and a ring.

I have 3DVision hardware but I haven't tried ED with it yet because of the eye strain. Is it not working right now, considering that they have that VR support?

Ermm don't they already have 3D support on the graphic setting ...

They do, but nVidia's handling of it's 3D technology is frankly abysmal - rather than do the sensible thing and grow the 3D ecosystem, I'd be surprised if they're not charging an exorbitant license fee to developers that want to use it. I'm not affected, since I use a third-party passive-3D monitor and Tridef, but I genuinely sympathise with those who have a 3D-capable display and can't use it for some of their favourite games. :(

Real 3D Vision doesn't work :( or rather, it will turn on, but your eyes will go completely crazy. Compatibility mode works, but that gives about 10% of the 3D experience where your sometimes wondering if youre not imagining the 3D.
Actually seeing in 3D = no worky :(

Ermm don't they already have 3D support on the graphic setting ... what am I missing your point here??!

They have red/blue and side-by-side 3D, not the one-frame-after-another-for-each-eye 3D Vision type.

That's the one I want because I have the Nvidia shutter glasses and the 120Hz 27 inch monitor with the IR transmitter for them.

i have a similar setup myself. i tried the latest driver set (350.12) because my trusty old driver set (331.82) couldn't detect my new monitor. ED seemed to work ok, but it pretty much borked everything else - firefox and windows mail would either crash or have hung processes on exit, ED's launcher didn't work properly, explorer.exe would hang... and so on.

i tried 341.44 which solved all the other issues, but ED looks a bit strange in spots and the 3D effect is greatly magnified compared to the 350.12 set - i had the intensity almost switched off but it still diverged a bit too much in some parts, like the Vulture canopy bars. some suns look really bloody horrible with a large pattern of dark circles on the most highlighted areas

i'm going to try 347.88, which is the only set left untested between the other two - i hope i get the best of both worlds, a good looking ED and Windows without hangs and freezes. if not, then i'll stick with 341.44 and hope nVidia don't fudge the next release

---> 347.88 works fine for all situations and ED support is quoted as 'Excellent' - but the 3D separation is fairly minor and subtle, unlike with 341.44 - your mileage may vary.

Hi - I have an nVidia gtx 770 - and am thinking about getting a 3D compatible screen and the glasses.

Is it worth it, or am I better hanging on for Oculus Rift (or similar) retail editions? Has anyone compared the two (just the 3d'nss)?

I note that Elite Dangerous isn't in nVidia's current list of games... whilst the original Far Cry is...:S
