Well, your mouse may wear off faster for an infinitesimal small amount by having to adjust that setting.![]()

I'm probably late to the party as usual and all you nvidia users already know this but...
..apparently, by default nvidia drivers output a limited RGB range from 16 to 235 which gives a washed-out effect.
To resolve this issue go to the nvida control panel and select Change Resolution.
In the bottom right is the option Output dynamic range - in the drop down menu select FULL and voila! - deeper blacks and more vivid, rich colours bringing new life to my TN monitor
I hope you find this helpful
As Fluffa points out below, this only applies to HDMI
And that's where the Lagom LCD test pics come in handy - do you see squares 1-10 as nonexistent (black) or different shades of grey...Actually.. You kind of want to make sure that your TV/Monitor is set to the exact same setting, otherwise... Crushed blacks, blown whites, bleeding reds and oversaturated colours..
Having said that, 16-235 is normally a HDTV setting, so monitors should be set to full RGB to begin with. As AI said, just make sure your monitor settings are the same as the video card settings.
Z...
Note to be aware off, it also counts if you are using dvi->hdmi or similar, however there's an issue on both dvi->hdmi and hdmi->hdmi with dynamic range where it flakes out colours for some random reason, that said this was 2-3 official drivers ago, might be fixed, but if colours flip out, turn it off.I have just discovered something which improves the colours in Elite and all games.

All the more reason to sticky this tip in the Newcomer forum. It's the sort of info someone wont even know is a potential problem, you know, like a newcomer might miss. You want an earlier post/thread?

Dynamic range isn't the same as bit, 12 bit range, is also something you can enable, separately from dynamic range, dynamic range + 12 bit really makes things pop, for me a bit too much some times, to the point of feeling artificial. Some TVs may have some small issues with it. But its no more trouble than just disabling it again.

Monitor needs to support 10bit, very few does. So sounds like a hogwash post![]()
Sorta/kinda, things DO become darker, which can lead to the background 'fog' in Elite becoming less visible, but on the other hand, for example the icons for planets and such which uses shades of white and black, they will become clearer.Any disadvantages to doing this?
I don't think going to HDMI from DVI will improve anything, more likely it will cause you to need checking out if your GPU & display agree with each other about the colour range. All I want to know is, will it improve anything if I start using hdmi instead of dvi? I'm currently using dvi as obvious and don't want to bother if it won't.
