October Community Update Discussion Thread

A question came to my mind :

What are we supposed to do with the Billion(s) of Credits that were originally earned to satisfy Carrier cost?
In the December Update, will there be some form of new large Vessels as a spare Credit purpose and short-term Carrier substitute? Panther Clipper or something like that maybe.

( asking for a friend ;) )
Christmas is for the children.

Addressing the several broken aspects of the game is much more important to me than getting fleet carriers, so i'm not really bothered by the news... infact i'm happy about it. Let's just hope Fdev are serious about it. Let's hope they really intend to fix (at least) most of the bugs which affect the game, and that they're not coming up with this "polishing phase" thing just as an excuse to delay the next update....

I guess we'll see...

Somebody in here mentioned proper damage models. You know, that alone would make me quite happy. That, a few more missions, maybe a ship or two, a mountain of bug fixes, and I'd be content in late 2020.

"Community Voice" -"FDev fix these bugs or else..."
FDev - "OK, but it means no new content for another 8 months"
"Community Voice" - "Exactly right thing to do!"
Ordinairy 'community' member - "Glad you will fix those bugs, can we have (insert feature of choice) while you are at it?"
FDev - silence.... allegedly, CM's reported to be sobbing softly in a darkened room...

Different people want different things ;)

True: while a demand to fix bugs and nothing else was made, folk still keep on asking for 'content' to be added, despite the'uproar' over the game being 'broken'...
And we all know how well that will end, don't we?

Yeah but it's different people ;)
There is no community 'hive mind', comparing the community as you would an individual just doesn't work :)

"Communtiy Voice" was self-appointed... and decided to speak for us all, even if it wasn't requested... Obviously the Developers listening to them was an oversight ;)

But, you have never written a more factual statement - there is no 'hive mind' in the community - just a bunch of individuals each wanting 'their game', don't you agree?

I do indeed agree with what I wrote, yes ;)

I also agree that self appointed spokespeople are not helpful if they are your only source of feedback. Depends on the person I suppose, but back when I cared enough to bother starting suggestion threads I would try to take all feedback on board (no matter how it was presented). It doesn't feel like FDev have been doing this for the past couple of years maybe.

If I were to guess I'd say the powerplay focused feedback was the final attempt to engage the community and where community engagement all finally fell apart. It was not a topic I had much involvement with (I have never pledged) but I had spent some time working on proposals for 'meaningful PvP' so had an indirect interest in the topic & that may have prompted Sandro to start the PPOOFF. Note the scope of my thread avoids the main issue the playerbase had with PPOOFF.

So in summary, it depends ;)

So some thoughts on the II. I didn't play the previous II that everybody said they liked because I was off at a nebula for that one. I felt this II was pretty good for most of it but I think it ended badly. It was fine up to the combat phase. I was kind waiting for some kind of event or something to result from the prior elements at that point though. It didn't turn out that way. I think the II fell flat when we just got another round of hauling, which was almost a copy of the first round of hauling. I was thinking the developers had intended for the II to result in some calamitous outcome for the bubble, perhaps one that would be bring burning stations back. But it just kind of neatly resolved itself and now it's like it never happened at all. I mean first II gave us the new expansion in guardian space and the weekly megaship. Second II created new expansion, moved one engineer, and created new engineer. What did this latest II do? Created a new system state that is apparently just a precursor to another system state?

Not always different people, very few of us have enough self control to stick to the one thing for long.

I wish I had more of that ability.

All agree to get bug fixes instead of promised Fleet Carriers....
Question:
Do you really think all bugs will be gone with the Fleet Carriers ?
What do you dream at night ?
Twice re-scheduled and now another 6 month (!!!)....
MAIN AIM IS THAT THE ARX IS WORKING TO GET MONEY FROM THESE BLOODY CONSUMERS...to pay more for a bug-game.....
If they would spend the same benefit to the FC as for the ARX, we would have the FCs already !!!

Do you remember ???
Bugs in game....announced update....other bugs came up.....announce update...other bugs came up...
SO WHERE THE HELL IS THE BUG-FIX ?
....and they repeat....AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN !!!
Yes well, agree to be an good idea to get the bug-fix firs....I don't, because I expect it as a basic, that is their bloody job !
Nobody pays money for a BUG-GAME...and nobody agreed with the delay of the FLEET CARRIERS....just FD !
Right now, I think rename "ELITE" to "2nd Hand"...that is what is is right now.
FULLSTOP !

To be honest....I'm an idiot to have 3 accounts and spent hundret of Euros for paintjobs and other crap !

To be honest FCs should not have been announced with their first release date in the first place.
Just take a look around. It seems that rather than taking their time to develop new functionalities FD started releasing stuff as is too keep that "4 updates a year" schedule.
Also, somehwere i'd seen pointed out that FD tends to other games as well, both in development and maintenance. Then there is this part of their team dedicated to New Era. Or at least that's what we were lead to believe.

Rather than saying "FCs have been delayed" maybe we should start thinking "FCs finally have proper release date".

I would much rather be kept up to date than be knowingly kept in the dark. We used to get regular Dev Diary type updates so we could see the current state of progress of some stuff, while other stuff happened on the quiet that we didn't know about. And if the current state of progress changed then we were kept updated to manage expectations.

All of that seems to have just gone out the window.

As you've all heard, I recently defected over to Space Engineers, and development of this game (including bug fix patches) and developer feedback seems way better that what we get from Frontier, and ironically some of their long-term players act like their dev team is too slow. I should invite them all to come see how Frontier does things - it might just make them appreciative of Keen Software House.
