...pre-ordered.
I now don't want to bet 720 EUR on Oculus to provide a working support for Elite Dangerous on day one of shipment.
At 2 bills more its the Vive for me. Thought quite a bit about it and I think it just makes more sense, more tools to work with and I don't have to sign into Facebook to use it like the surprise awaiting all the CV1 users.

The Oculus store does not require a Facebook account. They've started flat out that this won't change.
That's not what he means. He believes that the Rift platform apps (such as Configuration Utility and the inevitable Facebook VR messenger) will require a facebook account for login. I'd put the likelihood of this somewhere around 75% for at least one of the apps.

I'm glad that they keep stating categorically that a Facebook account won't be mandatory to use the headset. The fact that they are saying this as part of their marketing means they know how abhorrent that would be to a majority of their customers.
OK 1st off this needs confirmation I guess, however from what I have read it is now official. If ED is getting no more updates till 2.1, and now 2.1 is delayed to may beta, june launch at the earliest, then, if I am reading it correctly then it is now certain that the oculus rift CV1 will not be supported by ED on launch.
Boooo! No Rift support from ED devs? Shameful. I was going to order Oculus Rift, but I will not after all. And I do not want the Vive with the lightboxes...
No VR for me then.![]()
Well, SteamVR is as it is the Vive driver.
And SteamVR is a Steam library tool program, so yes Steam is required. Besides, just like Oculus Steam makes its money from its store so it's a given that they will want Vive owners to use the store.
Does not mean that programs must be on steam to be usable tough - Just Like Elite does not need to be on steam to use SteamVR.
i think his point was, there are many people saying they would be furious if oculus made you sign up to a facebook account to use the rift, so he was questioning if the VIVE would make you have a steam account to use it.
i already have a facebook account.. i never use it however and can push any emails into spam, so truth is, neither of them bother me.Probably yes and probably yes so which would you be inclined to suffer?
