Oculus Rift Community Request List

Re my SBS 3D Headtracking options request,
it turns out it can be done already,
3D Side By Side already supports TrackIR,
so if you install OpenTrack, you can use the the Oculus head tracking and open track will convert it to the TrackIR protocol and it works,

So for you all settings micromanagers, here is a new thing you can try,
Install Open track,
Select 'Oculus' tracker and 'Freetrack Enhanced' protocol
Switch on DK2
Press Start on OpenTrack,
Open Elite:Dangerous
Select 3D Side By Side in graphic settings,
Now you have the option to experiment with Video dimensions, Frame Rate and VSync on/off at the same time with your DK2,
You have a lot more granular control now, but you will need to experiment a lot,
I couldn't create a better combination than what the Oculus (HeadPhones) option does, but I came close before I ran out of energy trying.

Did you try again? This sounds interesting

+1 for virtual keyboard. Not bothered about my pilots hands moving to press the buttons but some way to type in the chat box without having to remove the rift to see my keyboard would be nice.

Good thread. :)

It's been mentioned but for the sake of adding gravity to it, I'd love to see Direct Mode support. This because I'm convinced there's some oddness with Windows 8.1 causing performance inefficiencies with extended desktop mode (see previous threads about running extended desktop upside down). I'm hoping that a Direct Mode version will bypass these issues. Besides, extended desktop really feels like a cludge by Oculus. DM will be nice and tidy.

I can't think of a single thing to add to this. All my ideas are already here. =] Mods, please make this thread sticky! This is obviously really important to all of us, and the VR player-base is going to grow drastically in the next 6-8 months. Not to mention, many of these improvements will add to the game for everyone, not just VR players.

/me daydreams of ED devs reading this thread and saying "... but all this stuff is already implemented for 1.3!"

Not Rift specific per se, but the rift is affected more than other PC players:

* Ability to set favorites/bookmarks of star systems
* Ability to plot route from anywhere you can see a system name - from transactions tab, ship locations in shipyard, bookmarks, Galnet, etc.

The idea would be to reduce keyboard input usage significantly by making most navigation through this new route planner.

FYI triple buffering is really undesirable for VR because it introduces lag. You are effectively rendering three frames ahead of the display just in case the video card can't render in time to allow the dropping of frames for more consistent v-sync and framerate.

If you can maintain 75fps most or all of the time its best to have as little buffering as possible.

The ideal scenario would be for the display to show what ever is rendered immediately akin to freesync/g-sync, that way there is no need to render any frames in advance and then sync them to the display, therefore much less lag. We can only hope that future HMDs will support features like this.

A video screen that we can play our movies ect ect on while exploring space since this is the one thing that can be very boring in vr. Yes you see really cool stuff but most of your time exploring is just going from one planet to another doing detailed scans or in deep space. I also think that would fit with the tech of the game i mean can you imagine 1000 years from now being a deep space explorer that you would not have a ton of entertainment that you would bring with you.
