Oculus Rift & Windows 10 Thread

Actually i just found out that you don't have do choose between the sdks. You can just simply stop 0.7 and run the old 0.5.

Deinstall 0.7 reboot and install 0.5 (ignore all errors)
Save the C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Service\OVRServer_x86.exe to a different location
Install 0.7
Copy OVRServer_x86.exe back where it came from.
Rightclick, go to properties, then compability an set ist to windows 8 and run as administrator!
Reboot

Make a batchfile containing

net stop OVRService
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" off
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Service\OVRServer_x86.exe"

Name it SDKold.bat for example
and run it as administrator!
A shell should open an your Rift should become second screen. (if not go to your screensetting and look if you have to extend your primary screen manually)
Don't close the shell!!!!!!
Start ED and change Grafic settings to secondary monitor and 3d to Rift (as normal)
Play and have fun!

To switch back to 0.7
close the shell
and use a second batchfile containing

net start OVRService

Name it SDKnew.bat
run it as adminstaror
and you are good to go again

Hope that brings back the all Windows 10 Commanders :)

Fly save!

Thats great, Thank you. I will try it later today.

Two new versions of this have surfaced after I posted Cinefreaks solution on reddit:

Lazydodo:

I improved on the batch files a little more (tray bar app support, and automatic killing of the service
when you're switching between runtimes), and have pretty seamless switching between 0.6. and 0.7
without too much hassle (tested on win7, not sure how it'll do on 8/10).

1) Uninstall 0.7

2) Install 0.6
3) Copy the contents of C:\program files (x86)\Oculus somewhere safe
4) Uninstall 0.6, reinstall 0.7
5) Get a Copy of pstools [edit: /u/NeoZeroo posted a version without the need for pstools here ]
6) make a file 0600.cmd

net stop OVRService
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" off
c:\tools\pstools\pskill OculusConfigUtil
c:\tools\pstools\psexec -d Oculus_0600\Service\OVRServer_x64.exe
c:\tools\pstools\psexec -d Oculus_0600\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe

7) make a file 0700.cmd

c:\tools\pstools\pskill OculusConfigUtil
c:\tools\pstools\pskill OVRServer_x64
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" on
net start OVRService
c:\tools\pstools\psexec -d "C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe"

8) Right click and run as administrator the batchfile off your choice and off you go!

You'd have to adjust the paths to where things are stored on your specfic system, both other than
that should be easy.
It would be possible to zip up the folder containing all of this and have less techy
users use this method, but i really did not want to redistribute oculus/microsoft binaries, sorry.

NeoZeroo:

We can improve that so we don't need to download pstools:

0600.cmd

net stop OVRService
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" off
taskkill /f /im OculusConfigUtil.exe
start ""
pathtoyoursaved06files\Service\OVRServer_x64.exe
start "" pathtoyoursaved06files\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe

0700.cmd

taskkill /f /im OculusConfigUtil.exe
taskkill /f /im OVRServer_x64.exe
"C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\DirectDisplayConfig.exe" on
net start OVRService
start "" "C:\program files (x86)\Oculus\Tools\OculusConfigUtil.exe"

(Notice the empty "" before the actual path)

Unfortunately, I didn't get it to work. The 0.5.0.1 script starts and runs, but Elite Dangerous does not recognize it properly.

I think I'll have to wait until Elite supports the 0.7.x SDK until I'll play it in 3D....

I'm going 2D until Elite supports 0.7.x version of the Rift SDK. :-(

Has Frontier mentioned any ETA on updating Elite to the new SDK-version? I mean, they HAVE to do it at some point, otherwise Elite won't support the Retail Rift once it's released.

To the people upstairs...

Use the 32bit version OVRServer_x86.exe with Windows 10.

Runtime 0.6.0.1 and driver Nvidia 356.04

Works with Elite and iRacing.

RiftDK2 power on/off button and Win10

Hi all,

i've got a weird problem (no major showstopper, just an annoyance) since my upgrade to Win10 and like to know if someone else experienced this problem as well.
My powerbutton on the rift isn't working correctly most of the times i push it.

After a clean boot and login i need to disconnect the powersupply of the rift to power it up
sometimes it comes up instantly, another time i need to reconnect the powersupply first before
the little LED goes on....

I'm guessing some weird usb-power-wibblywobbly-thingie... already switched usb-ports (usb2, usb3 and back) with no effect

any ideas :S

Curious!

I've always had to disconnect/reconnect my HDMI cable to activate the Rift on my laptop [Windows v8.1]. I ended up buying a couple of cheap connectors so that I could disconnect/reconnect those to save the rift and laptop connections from wear and tear.

Might it perhaps be something similar?

Had the same probs with win7. Disconnect the rift from the mainboard (USB). Boot up as normal, connect ur rift back to USB and restart. Happens every time I switch my psu off over night.

FYI to all

Watch out - Microsoft are trying to trick us into upgrading to windows 10 again.

I went through a process a month or two back to get rid of the repeated attempts by MS to automatically upgrade me to windows 10.

As of today, it's now unhidden itself and it's now proposing me again to upgrade to windows 10. Luckily I didn't just blindly install all updates - I have hidden it again.

I'm curious about why people use the power button on the rift itself? I never touched it (errgg, possibly once the day I received the dk2). my DK2 is always plugged, I don't feel the need to turn it off or on as it work as soon as I need it. The device is kept in Direct Mode (so led is orange) and I set it as extended for ED (so it turn blue) Is it for saving some power? do I miss something here?

I use the rift in extended mode for ED, when i switch it on my primary monitor changes its resolution (because of the 75Hz) and monitor 2-4 are being disconnected :) (my graphicadapter only supports 4 displays but has 5 connectors)

thats why i need it switched off during non-rift-use :)

Supposedly in extended mode you could get a burned in screen of whatever the content of your extended screen (rift) may be.
Overall you could wonder what the impact of "always on" on the durability of the rift's display is. We can be pretty sure it will not extend it's life by leaving it on.

If you don't want it that's fine.
ED works perfectly fine on my win 10 machine though. After a little bit of tinkering (see 1 or 2 pages back) i can switch between SDK 0.7 and 0.5.0.1 with a simple doubleclick.

Nope, because I'm using runtime 0.6.0.1 and for me the DK2 still off, screen black, even in extended mode, until a VR application turn the screen ON (without the press of this ON/OFF button). So no burning problem. That wasn't the case with previous 0.5.0.1 runtime and screen was always showing my wallpaper as soon as I turned it in Extended; and until a VR application use the DK2.

Try moving your mouse over to the extended screen, do you see the cursor?

Good point, yes cursor still visible. As I said , not a big deal for me as I keep the device always in Direct Mode, led turn orange. I just turn it as extended for applications which need it (like ED) and back immediately in Direct Mode after. So in summary I use direct mode as a switch OFF. Probably less efficient than using the button I agree, but at the beginning when I had the DK2 I remember I had some fears few times where I wasn't able to make it work after touching this button ON/OFF, it didn't want to wake up, etc. so I give-up using it.

BTW, the CV1 don't seems to have anymore this button unless I missed it...

Windows 10 is not letting me supersample with my AMD R9-295x2 Tips?

I can't seem to supersample in windows 10 like I did in windows 8.1 with my AMD R9-295x2. I use to be able just to change some settings with regedit and it would work. But now it's not working :-( I'm using the current Beta drivers from AMD. 15.10 Beta. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or to force ED to see 1440p in the DK2? Also if there are any DK2 users that want to play some CQC all day everyday... plz add me "Z4-StormShadow" Thanks for reading... -peace
