Odyssey early access question

Jokes aside, you can surely make credits very fast in ED, I just have never done it, and wouldn't know how. It is not my current playstyle.
Sure. I don't earn credits anywhere near "as fast as possible" either, in my actual play. My normal play gets me more than enough money for what I actually spend, so while I know how to make 200M/hour I never actually have.

But in an Alpha test if I need more resources for testing something I'll just look up the quickest way to get them and do it.

In fact all the testers may end up spawning on a planet with no ships, it's hard to say, but there's one thing I am certain of, we are all wrong!
I am suspecting that Frontier have labelled it "Alpha" precisely because they intend to do something like the original Alpha/Premium Beta tests where the play area is seriously constrained and features are incrementally introduced, so that tests of e.g. "how does inter-player networking cope with foot action" aren't made worthless by everyone being spread across the galaxy ... and then once that's sorted, then a "Beta" where everyone gets their own accounts in a full-sized galaxy.

As you say, the only certainty is that we're all wrong about how it works.

... and as fdev said - no extra $$ because we want people to test using as well as owning. So you played your part. You could have changed your part, by getting the credits (as a lot did), but you chose not to. Blaze your own trail, etc ;)

Edit: And your post highlights the other point I made - people wanting to use alpha/beta for testing things they won't use in the actual game. Which is not the (primary) purpose of alpha/beta.

Yep, i tested the carriers as a visitor in beta 1 since my pc alt did not had enough money when they announced the snapshot date.
And i tested them as an owner in beta 2.

And a lot of people didnt bothered to test the carriers as visitors since they were too busy playing with their new toys.
So FD was right with the way they setup the beta tests for Carriers. And they did sort out the cash exploits and some of the annoying bugs reveled in the beta.

Which makes me wonder how will this go with a such tight schedule - everything is going to happen during the 3 months of Spring - an Alpha for sure, maybe a Beta? A Beta 2 too? All in the span of less than 3 months?

There's no early access for Odyssey. At least not that has been announced. I don't think they've done early access except for gamma?

BTW, no mention of Engineers accepting fish?

soo, how much money do you have in the game?
A-Plenty. I don't think I'll have money problems ever again in game.

If they lower the prices of ships or not is yet to be seen. But it's good to have some cash now, which then gets ported to the Alpha and Beta, so one gets to dive in right away, without having to farm cash first.

I thought that at the least Windows players are getting early access compared to console players?

Elite Dangerous: Odyssey - Deluxe Alpha Expansion (Pre-Order), allows access to the alpha, is that not a form of early access?

Not quite so.
It's alpha testing. In a snapshoted galaxy and what you do there does nothing to the main galaxy

Basically you pay for the privilege of testing the early game and offer inputs that might or might not be taken into consideration

Edit: in other words it's a way to test gameplay features mostly (and some bugs ofcourse) - but some features might get changed for the beta version (beta is purely a test for bugs, gameplay is already set in stone for the beta)

You get early access to the new gameplay and features, though as you say, any 'progress' is not retained.

Be honest, how many do you think pay money to help Frontier with testing as opposed to getting a first look at what's coming next?

I believe they've already said they are going to introduce new features in stages as the alpha and beta progress, it wouldn't surprise me if no on foot PvP was available at all to start with, just legs and the new bases and atmospheric landing, with maybe some of the new biology thrown in.

I will with this account - my others will get Odyssey when it releases on PC & PS4 (bit of a wait for that one...)
But I will be doing both - getting my first taste of the new gameplay as well as being happy to 'bug test'... Made possible as I do have time enough to play the game for both purposes.

Naturally, I'm unable to answer for anyone else!

Don't that this the wrong way, but it is the individual Commander to decide whether they have enough credits to play 'what ifs' in Alpha/Beta, nothing to do with FD at all.

yeah! you're right.

just wanted to get this out, because in an old beta there were complains from some cmdrs that they could not afford even the reduced prices.

so i just wanted to say this so everyone can get their ingame account sorted before the beta starts.

(and i was in the fish-for-engineering-beta and dude that was fishy..)

also: snapshot for alpha/beta is an unknown time before the start. at least i think 4 weeks. so IF beta starts in april, that would be mid march. so your march account is the thing for the alpha/beta.

"Get your account ready for tests"

?

Since the beta has no in game consequences, then why should being 'ready' matter at all? It just smacks of laziness on FDs part if you have to cram to test for something you paid to do for them. FD should supply everything you need to test what they want you to test.

They do. Just that some people disagree - but hey - that's the forums ;)

yeah, well, no. FD did not every time provide "all we need" for testing in beta's. it was mostly just reduced, sometimes not.

but just saying.... plotting own trail or so.... want to hear no complains later on in beta

  • "i can't test to engineer my on foot warsuit bc i have not the materials."
  • "i cant waste my preciuos beta time to collect antimon!!"
  • "why is my account wrong? i have 200mil more in my account" (but had not 4 weeks prior)

lets just learn what we learned in previous betas.
