Odyssey early access question

yeah, well, no. FD did not every time provide "all we need" for testing in beta's. it was mostly just reduced, sometimes not.

but just saying.... plotting own trail or so.... want to hear no complains later on in beta

  • "i can't test to engineer my on foot warsuit bc i have not the materials."
  • "i cant waste my preciuos beta time to collect antimon!!"
  • "why is my account wrong? i have 200mil more in my account" (but had not 4 weeks prior)

lets just learn what we learned in previous betas.
Don't worry - whatever fdev do there will be whining and complaints. The forums have an inexhaustible supply.

My point is, there should be no barrier to testing- money, materials are barriers. Take engineering, the end requirements are just polish- the real meat is getting people to test as many variations as possible. I don't mind testing something repeatedly and robotically if its painless to do so.

fully agree, that there "should" not be a barrier. absolutely.

we have to manage expectation, FD will not be perfectly fair. i think forum outrage made the change on dalton gateway possible, that it has all ships/modules in beta because shinrarta is rank locked.

lets just see what comes. if alpha is open, this would be my first alpha :D looking forward to the bugs.

ooh, edit: that is a BIG point for new users:
  • dalton gateway (mostly) stocks all ships/modules for reduced prices in beta!
  • no hyperjump needed.
    • self destruct
    • respawn in Trevithick dock
    • supercruise to Daltons
    • (only in beta, dont not do this in real life)

I'm more concerned about balance, especially the ground to air / air to ground combat. FD never get it right, and are poor at taking long term choices- hopefully testing will be in isolation like pre 1.0 alpha (i.e. logging into arenas and nothing else), then slowly 'releasing' more and more to test. Doing it over and over like alpha will hopefully banish future demons.

We can but hope!

EDO is pretty major, my hope is that we are not getting early access but a proper testing scheme where we can test the nuts off the thing.
:ROFLMAO:

Early Spring : Alpha
Late Spring: Production

No mention of any Beta. Production date already promised. Financial end of year approaching. I really hope I'm wrong ...

And its this which worries me- its going to be a case of fix showstoppers and hope what FD think is right broadly matches the players. Even getting feedback now would avoid lots of 'why did they think that?' issues.

I agree! I really don't mind paying for alpha as long as Frontier isn't just going to treat it like the last couple of free beta tests and not make it possible to get involved in everything becaue we don't start off with enough credits or materials.

We already know that new engineers are being introduced, assume that 'new' mats are probably going to be needed too, so ease of access is going to be important. Naturally, we will also need to get a solid go at combined combat too.

At the moment I really just want the alpha to start - as they tell people more about the update the pressure for pre-emptive nerfs and rebalances only gets worse. Pretty sure FC would have worked out better if they hadn't listened to the pre-beta whining.

I just hope they know what they are doing.....otherwise not even prismatic forum accounts will protect against the flames- with some issues being entirely avoidable.

What I'd love to see is FD show us footage on consoles (to put to bed the tiresome 'are they lying' threads), and as you say, start the alpha / testing. Even if its a hot wobbly build at least we can prevent the inevitable future cataclysms lurking and tune things in sensibly.

As is to be expected, we have a few different playstyles and each wants it all 'their own way' so voice their agenda vociferously :devilish:

Likewise, get it started, hope that more folk buy access (if they can) once we start having fun (or otherwise) as the more that get involved in finding the 'broken bits' earlier the better!

Yup - I mean, it is supposed to be an Alpha, so shonkiness should be expected (lol, some will complain, but that is no surprise). I want to see if the balance & flow of legs works. And give them time to do something meaningful.

Thats the thing- its like this 'Armstrong moment'. FD don't really know what to do for that (going from the interviews) so they need to ask us via multiple choice what the options to do it are to get feedback. FD go a bit crazy in isolation (pun not intended) and really need a grounding - I get this place is like a primary school sometimes, but even then you can use it to gauge if you are producing what people want.

Yep and how many will believe what the see on the screen? If they already have an agenda against FD, nothing FD does, shows or talks about will change their mind. Even if FD personally arrived at their house, plugged in a console and showed them some here will still call it lies, a smoke screen or whatever.

Just admit it, whatever FD does some here will take umbrage at it!
