Odyssey Going Forwards

Big money is a relative term. £35 is big money if your main source of income is a paper round. Not so much when you're able to offer your guests £10,000 cigars after dinner.

But sure, lets say it's not. Would you like to buy some magic beans from me for £35?
I think it's fair to say that most people playing video games on PC have a reasonable amount of disposable income. Buying a decent PC isnt exactly paper round money.

If by some miracle it isn't a typical Bethesda release, you'll just have to save up and join the PC master race. 😅

X4: Foundations, No Man's Sky, Star Citizen, Evechron Legacy, Space Engineers... to name a few anyway. 🤷‍♀️
All good options, although star citizen isn’t on console either, so that doesn’t help.

Hopefully frontier gets it together, otherwise what other option can you come up with?
Please don't take me too seriously! I'm trying to master the art of sarcasm at every occassion possible. ;)

I really hope, that FDev heard the wake-up call (as I mentioned earlier).
I just wanted to point out, that a trailer doesn't make a good game. The EDO-Trailers were awesome too.

For me, "looking foreward" to a game release isn't really an option nowadays. More and more products been rushing out to make "fast money". Especially regarding the mentioned companies. I just sit back and wait for the first few "Let's plays" and make my purchase based on what I can acutally see. There is no point, to be a 1st-Day-Gamer anymore. Maybe I'm getting too old for this sh... after all. 🤷‍♀️

If you bought your own PC. My son didn't, I did, but he does tend to save up and buy his own games.

Personally, it's not big money, but it is certainly on the higher end of what games cost - so I'd see it as 'big money' in that respect. Either way, even if it was just £5, that we were sold an unfinished product would, and does, grate on me.

Like I said "most people".

Sure, nobody likes getting something that doesnt work as advertised but most of the same people have also probably spent £40 on rubbish they cant remember since buying Odyssey. :)

Sir,
Words expected but missing were: “On behalf of Frontier I extend my sincere apologies for the substandard product release” and so on. Nobody including you had owned up to this cluster* but above all for clearly ignoring your customer feedback and original vision outlined by you. PC users are not just a testbed for console, without us there would be no Elite. Engineering grindfest and material gathering cannot be your only gameplay mechanic. You need to go back to the drawing board, fix a bunch of pre-Odyssey half- features—you know what these are—and then integrate the FPS experience on top a solid foundation. On the minus side, ogging in and out of a game cannot be acceptable gameplay mechanic.
Ship interiors—fully supported by mission scripts such as piracy, rescue, salvage, etc—should be the essential element of Odyssey including Zero G combat. This is a space game after all, is it not?
I love Elite and will always fondly remember the years spent in it despite its flaws. Hope to experience a vastly revamped Odyssey at some point in the future. But only if you guys take your time and do it right and allow the community time to rebuild at least some of the trust that’s been lost.

07, CMDR Braben

Well that's just your take on it. So you'll just have to sit back and enjoy the ride? In anticipation that they don't follow through so you can pounce.
Just so you know. Odyssey might never be perfect (well it won't be - no game is), it might never have smooth frame-rates throughout. But that STILL doesn't mean they didn't follow through and focus on PC first before releasing on console.

Sometimes words are all you have to get your trust back.
I don't think Frontier are in a position now to make statements like this and not back them up. Also I think there is a reason that Braben posted this and not one of the CM's.
Cynicism doesn't help the cause. Ride this out and see where it goes. You give up too easy.

There ya go. That's more like it.
Some will trust a statement, some won't. If people want to be bitter and cynical, that is their perogative. Let's wait and see. :)

You’re absolutely right though, it is somewhat hyped with no real idea of what the gameplay might be, so there’s definitely the possibility that it’ll be a huge letdown. Elite is definitely my preference and I really hope they get things sorted, but with some promise that they’ll get back to consoles once their comfortable with the PC release, however vague that is, and no follow-up comments by a CM since, I think it’s safe to assume that console is cancelled and we just hope they’ll surprise us with a release sometime in the future. Until then I’m happy playing horizons as I’ve started over almost completely and have more ranks and engineers to unlock again. If odyssey is there when I’m ready to move on, great, if not well there are other games.

I really, genuinely, hope - that if anything good came out of the Odyssey release shambles - it at least convinced a lot more people to never pre-order games ever.

Ever.

It's a throwback to the days when games would come in physical boxes at your local shop, and there would be a limited number of them and you wanted to make sure you reserved your copy & it wasn't sold to someone else before you got there.

In today's world, it's just a cash grab. Especially with dishonest trailers (yes I'm looking at you Odyssey).

I really don't believe that they canceled console Odyssee. They just postponed the release for one obvious reason: To avoid a FDev version of Cyberpunk 2077.
Regarding a comment from a CM. Really, for what? The CM's Big Boss opened this very thread. I see no reason for a CM to post "his opinion" over the topic (unless he wants to look for another job). :sneaky:

All our console-pilots in the squad are quite sad about this latest news, but they all, without any exception, are confident that Odyssee WILL be released after all the "Brainbugs" have been squashed.

They introduced an extra teleport in the concourse of all places. If you wait a few seconds in the lift, you get teleported out. Clearly popping in and out of existence arbitrarily is no great concern of Fdev's.
That is to stop people hogging lifts and blocking people from their ships in busy instances.

It's a game, and that is a game mechanic to prevent abuse.

Not everything you see in this game has any reason to it beyond "we did this to stop people being jerks."

People : "Talk to us!"
FDEV talks...
People : "We don't believe you!"

I'm exhausted...
Indeed. I do not blame FD for being reluctant to share information. It always gets twisted in every manner possible, sometimes to the point of fabricating lies and false accusations.

People should read the statement on harassment posted last week. That doesn't get posted on a game forum unless something serious happened.

This is why I have suddenly stopped logging in most days. I have better things to do with my life than worry about a video game.

Not really accurate. People want to believe them, but are exhausted by too many words that haven't been followed through on in the past... going back almost a decade. Even actively gone against when they feel like it.

Trust will not be re-earned through words, but by actions.

Right now, it's like an abusive partner trying to convince his other half that he's changed, and he won't do it again...

Not entirely true.
Due to gravitational / tidal forces the spin of Earth decreases over time up to the point of gravity lock.

Good point, and as we are losing the Moon at 3.78cm per year, eventually it will have no discernible pull on the Earth and the spin will go haywire. We'll also cease to have seasons, as the tilt is largely down to the Moon's influence.

I expect we will both be dead before that happens though.
