Odyssey SRV entry animation?

That's a really nice video, but the question was:

player <> srv
not
srv <> ship
Ah.
No, 'players' get a crappy fade to black - totally let down.
FDev didn't do player transition animations for the same reason they say they didn't do ship interiors. They were focusing on adding actual game play.
Unfortunately their idea of 'actual game play' is:
  • Conflict zones : substandard FPS with less features and modes and weapons than an FPS from 2004.
  • Exo-Biology : point-n-click and new plant thing.
  • Station Concourses: Social area where you can't sit, or buy a drink or talk or even emote - ie zero social features.
  • On Foot missions: Some of these are actually fun and enjoyable, at least for the first few weeks.
  • Random POI's: I've seen a video where a player at a random POI got attacked by a bunch of NPC's that dropped in via ship - that looked fun, I wasn't lucky enough to get that happen to me on any of the POI's I visited - being rare is probably a good thing though, it would be annoying if it happened every time!

I hope I didn't sound as a jerk, it was not my intention. I didn't want to say NMS was a bad game or anything. It's just 2differents approach. Ed is more hardcore, lenghty and "realist".

Today, the games that are more casual, short and full of accessible fun are very popular.

You didn't, maybe I jumped to defend NMS a bit hard!

I love both games and want them both to continue being awesome. Flaws and all. There is definitely space for both of them.

Google Trends is a fairly decent way to gauge global interest. When you look at the last two years, its fairly spread out: NMS is biggest, then ED, followed by SC. NMS seems to have a stable baseline, but strong peaks when new patches land. This suggests a large but somewhat dormant playerbase. ED has had the baseline shifted up twice, most notably with the EDO announcement. With EDO launch the baseline might be above NMS's. Finally, Star Citizen has been pretty much lingering in the dark; the hype that existed originally has largely died out and in general gaming communities SC is only mentioned as a punchline to a joke.

To be honest, I don't think it's completely fair to say SC has been "lingering in the dark" when its curve is almost the same as Elite's for most of the time.

Except there is plenty competition. Space games are anything but a niche nowadays. The 'problem' is not that there isn't competition, but that we take stuff for granted.

"Of course it has the best flight model of all space sims out there, a fantastic 1:1 galaxy with literally hundreds of billions of planets to land on, of course you can [et cetera] but there are no animations when entering a buggy!"

Well, play NMS then. It has an animation when entering vehicles (only first person, in multiplay you see others teleport in ( Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/8zm4ub/animation_of_teleporting_when_entering_the_ship/
). But then I am sure you'll also complain about other stuff. "NMS doesn't count because they haven't [stuff we feel entitled to]."

There are now piles of absolutely fantastic space games available. NMS, ED, X4, Space Engineers and so forth are all made by very hard working, motivated and amibitious dev teams, who have all managed to create compelling and differentiated space games with tons of content. FD doesnt need 'more competition', some gamers simply need a reality check and appreciate what is out there a bit more.

And lets stop with the endless Adult Nerd Rage Festivals whenever something on our dreams.txt list doesn't make it into a computer game. Its just a excellent way of shooting ourselves in the foot and being miserable for no real reason during the golden age of space games. If there is something you'd like to see in any of these games? Post in their respective Suggestions forums. Maybe you'll get it, probably not, but it asking is free. But don't let it turn into this festering wound of malcontent and frustration, we're robbing ourselves of enjoyment.
This is an absolutely brilliant post that sums up exactly what is wrong with the naysayers, who don't seem to have noticed the quality difference in gameplay since 2014. It should be pinned to the front page of every moan thread.

If I buy a new suit, is there an animation of me putting it on? Please tell me so I know whether I have to write an open letter or not.
Please write a open letter, we are really needing a new open letter on top of the other open letters, I mean I expect my open letter to arrive any day soon.

Open Letter to Open Letters....

Games w/o animations for changing suits: All of them

Games w/vehicles but no entry/exit animations: ED

It's good to stand out from the competition. 🏆

Ah, yes, Who can forget the entry exit animations of wing commander and x wing? Such memorable moments.

I remember the tie fighter dlc «Sith lords helmet entry exiters. » It was real sith.

Have you seen,. say, Ender[prize_'s SC recent streams? It's way ahead of ED in many areas.

In some respects yes, Star Citizen is a vastly impressive bit of tech. The attention to detail in the ships is fantastic, the care and attention is clear. The planet tech they've got is also very beautiful.

But it's still just a vertical slice of what the actual game will be. When it's closer to actual completion I'll open my eyes to it for sure.

Not to mention the amount of money people have thrown at the game to get access to these huge powerful ships, it doesn't make it very appealing for a little guy wanting to purchase the game at launch knowing that these whales have dropped near thousands of dollars on these pay to win ships. How CIG plan on balancing the game for $40 players versus $40,000 players is something I can't wait to see.

Better get that keyboard fired up as there are were no suit changing animations in the alpha. Pity, though, it would have been amusing to watch CMDRs getting changed in the concourse

I was wondering how I managed to change suits in the SRV, at least the concourse is standing room!

I had wondered if in a kind of EVE ONLINE style, that actually, you have one jump clone sitting in the cockpit, you have one jump clone sitting in the SRV, and another jump clone that drops down a chute when you walk on a planet (and sucked back up when you board ship) and one in each station. The fade to black is simply your consciousness being transferred to whichever clone it is you're activating? Could explain the different suits and other things 🧐

Honestly? Only if you can skip it, because this would get old and annoying pretty quickly.
Like docking/undocking your SRV ? Or SLF ?
Or perhaps the "friendship charging" animation ? Or the animation when outfitting a ship, or ship switching ?

In a SRV, for modesty's sake, you will have to breathe on the glass before changing suits.
But the opportunities the concourse offers to exhibitionists are unlimited.

Yes, they all get tiresome after a while.
Especially the hardpoint outfitting animations are my pet peeve.

Docking the SRV not so much, because that's gameplay (i.e. you are controlling the vehicle while docking) but any "cinematic" animation that takes agency away from the player doesn't belong to a sim, IMO

And docking SRV is that different of entering inside said SRV ? Or entering your ship for that matters ? It's all gameplay after all.
