ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

Yeah... I'm done as well.
Uninstalling.

I couldn't care less. Imho we didn't have two or even one news stream per week anyway. CM gameplay and community screenshots are not really what I personally want to see. But to be fair, a weekly news stream would have been impossible for the last couple of years, since there simply wasn't enough news to share.
More Lave Radio, Less Elite week.
Yes, let's hope they'll push through. Looks like they are down to CMDRs Phoenix_Dfire and Psykit. 😝

The last episode lacked a bit of balance in their view points, maybe they were just trying to get some positivity back into the game. But a statement that annoyed me a bit was "People should just turn off their FPS counter, it really makes all the difference." No, it literally does not. The performance issues are not imaginary.

Could be a quote from Blizzard or Marie-Antoinette. 😜

Elite Week - especially the clips posted to YouTube - has sadly devolved into trading on the most controvertial talking points, likely because that means viewers, viewers means ads and ads mean money. It's only a matter of time before their thumbnails include Edvard Munch-esque screaming faces. I've started avoiding their content altogether; I really don't enjoy their vitriolic shock-jock style coverage.
Before I say anything - I am not part of EliteWeek - I am only a listener!
AFAIK (and stressed by Kai on occasion), EW don't accept any kind of payment/donations/money/sponsors/do any advertising (unless it's free whiskey), so "ads mean money" isn't true.... just thought I should say that.
So, as someone who regularly watches the livestreams they definitely have a problem to solve following their commitment to more news content. Pretty much every Supercruise News recently has been extended beyond the allotted time - seemingly at the expense of the CMs personal time - so they can fit both news content and gameplay in.

While some pople definitely tune into Supercruise News just for an update on how Odyssey development is going, the viewer numbers only drop by 200-300 (of ~1000) when that segment ends and they start the gameplay section. If we take this as indicative, and discounting the possiility that any of the viewers only want gameplay, 30% of the audience may be there just for the news while 70% may be there for both the news and the gameplay.

From the above, hopefully we agree that switching to a pure news-based update would underserve whatever percentage of the community that is actually interested in the gameplay as well as news. So what do they do? Make the livestreams longer? Add more livestreams during the week? Both of these would take time away from what the CMs are otherwise doing.

They said they'll try the fortnightly schedule and see how it works, with a stream every other week dedicated to just news and a developer update every month. I hope much of the content mentioned later in that Elite Week clip is intended to be in that monthly developer stream. I'm not sure it's feasible to expect them to be able to deliver that weekly.
IMO, the news and gameplay should be different streams - maybe Tuesday for news and Thursday for playing the game, or vice-versa.
The Tuesday news could then be split down further: -
Week 1 - Development News
Week 2 - Community News
Week 3 - Development News & Developer on stream
Week 4 - Community News & "Peek to the future" (sneak peek (videos, screenshots) of future content & talk about ideas that could be brought into the game - this could be a "response" to the "Suggestion" sub-forum and what has been posted over the last few week, WITH some dev feedback on the ideas ("No, we can't do that", "That's a great idea and we are looking into it", "We're actually already working on that, here's a short video of what we've got so far....")
- while the Thursday "gameplay" stream could alternate between the CMs engaging in the CG's (or lore events), and "guests" coming on stream (SPVFA, Skunkworks AXI, etc).
It would give it more structure, and you would know what you're going to get when you tune in!

That's fair. As a YouTube Premium subscriber and based on the outraged-laced video titles I'd assumed their YT content was ad supported, but can't see any ads in their stream content in private browsing. It still seems like their choice of clip content is feeding off the current controversy though, and the specific clip shared has far more venom than I'm interested in digesting.

I'd love to see a schedule like this. This isn't massively different from what they've spoken about thus far, though tomorrow's "development update post" rather than the promised "developer update stream" maybe suggests we may not be getting all of what they've spoken about. I'm curious to see if/how they broach the change of tack in today's livestream.

Ominous that Shan and Edleweiss have decided to “spend more time with their families“

Shan is on holiday atm. I had planned to go to lavecon but when that cancelled we arranged to see some old friends we've not seen for 3 years. Basically, it is more important that I take a few weeks off to reconnect with people that thanks to CV19 and "life" have seen those connections weaken and also to try and get some perspective as it's so easy to get so immersed into something you forget the world and life is much bigger.. I fully intend to come back in a week or 2 when my tour ends :)

That’s great news and completely understandable.

Did you try turning it off yourself? because I do and I can assure you that it makes a difference. after all I also had performance problems on planets with horizons. Especially when there were structures or a lot of materials.
Im gettins a similar experience now

Yes I did. I don't have it on as default. I really think your experiencing a placebo.

:-( been watching forums on and off whilst I work today nothing so far!

Hello,
Ever so sorry to sound like a "Negative Nellie" but I have just loaded up the 5th update and tried to get missions from a terminal, just got a "Spinning Hexagon of "Stand By" Death" and was kicked out of the terminal each time I tried. Re-boarded my ship and went to try the ship based missions and got booted out of the game with a "Gold Cobra" error message. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

I know most people don't use this feature and that this is a Horizons issue AND that this probably isn't the right post to mention this.
Using the Galaxy map commodity filter to find import/export markets currently displays Odyssey specific settlements not accessible to Horizon Cmdrs.
While this is just a minor annoyance to me, it might prove to be a major frustration for new Cmdrs that might not know about 3rd party tools.
The simple addition of a filter Odyssey bases button would solve this.
