Odyssey VR specific bug reports - please contribute!

Hmm, It couldn't just be the mouse-pointer-still-active-on-the-desktop-making-it-so-that-I-just-clicked-outside-the-window-and-lost-IO-focus, could it? -I get that just about every time I go on foot, and try to interact with something. I even tried changing the Cursor Behaviour in the options no change.
Absolutely the first thing I thought of and tried multiple times but as I said if I hit escape the mouse is there functioning normally. I actually didn’t think to check the System Map to see if it worked there but as I said it‘s even ignoring my HOTAS too I was basically “stuck” looking at my previously plotted route and couldn’t do anything else.
I even tried changing the Cursor Behaviour in Options with no results other than the odd effect that I could move the cursor around the menu by “looking“

Annoying. For my own part, I gave up on trying to use the mouse in the maps ages ago, due to misalignment issues, even though I think operating them with sticks makes writing a novel on an etch-a-sketch feel natural. ;P

Yeah mouse behaviour has always been janky but to just be able to click the “pop up“ menu for plot/system etc. is convenient but now nothing works in the map…

Update time again! After a quick read of the patch notes:
The shadow will be cast accurate to the light source.
Is this a fix for shadows moving with head movement? First thing I’ll check 😁
Fixed Holo-Me character disappearing in VR when in close-up views.
Not sure which issue report this fixes, but nice to see VR getting a bit of attention.

As always, if you spot any undocumented fixes please let me know, and any testing of existing bugs will be appreciated 👍

Unfortunately shadows are still flollopping around with head movement, and all extant VR bugs look to still be extant. The holo-me fix mentioned in the patch notes isn't for the settlement panel problem I've got listed in the OP, so I'm unsure what issue report that fixed (Edit: me being stupid - it has fixed the issue in the OP*, I was thinking of a separate Holo-Me bug).

On the plus side - the Scorpion displays both chair shadows when the disappearing shadow bug kicks in 😅

*while the issue is fixed, the implementation is still less than ideal in my opinion - the head&shoulders view is still too far away and offset from where it should be. I’ll make a short video to illustrate and probably have to submit it as a new issue.

Ya, it's a pity. It was a good ride while it lasted I guess. Just 5 minutes of that shadow rendering tomfoolery is too tiring for me and there's no way to even turn off the shadows and be done with it. I'd say to look forward to the next update, but somehow if 9 updates didn't get to it I don't think we're going to see any progress on this stuff.

Here's a video showing that it is related to your position on the planet - I stopped right at the point where it toggles and go back and forth over the boundary. It's like you are crossing over a grid and the one area has shadows while the other does not. For as long as you are in the "no shadows" area the ship casts no shadows, as soon as you move out of it they re-appear:

Yeah

On the issue tracker thread FD have mentioned they aren't actively working on many things atm. Not just VR issues but a bunch of others. Focusing on performance which is fair dinkum.

My bugbear, which I know is not EDO but still affects EDO players, are the orbit lines. FD's statement saying it was an issue with the camera doesn't sound promising but at least they did mention it. Which I thought was at least something.

I have to say, that Sally CM is brilliant.

Anyone else having this issue with screen flashbacks? I keep getting flashbacks after the recent update... It is like star or some structure flashes for a fraction of a second in my field of view and this happens randomly at a frequency of roughly 2Hz, of course randomly, sometimes twice a second, sometimes nothing for a couple of seconds... Before the update, I would get these flashes only once after entering a system and it would not happen every time, but now it happens all the time...

It is not happening in Horizons, so it should not be a HW issue...

I was wondering about this, I thought it was my imagination when testing for the shadow issue above - you can also see this flash occur in the game's desktop mirror and yes there is no easily discernible repro scenario, it might happen while moving around, might happen when stationary.

The VR experience keeps getting better and better...

Btw, no idea why but I get "The issue could not be loaded" for the above link.

This is odd... I received an "Issue successfully reported" message after reporting it, but now I'm getting the same "could not be loaded" error message...

Do they review the report before making it publicly visible?

As far as I’ve seen, it’s an intermittent bug with Issue Tracker. I’ve never seen a lost report come back from the “could not be loaded” abyss, so I can only recommend trying again. It’s bloody annoying to have your time wasted, but hopefully it’s something that will be looked at in the Tracker review (along with the 10 confirmations requirement 🤞) whenever that happens.

If you still have problems submitting the report, I’ll quite happily do so on your behalf if you give me the report text - touch wood, I’ve never had a failed report yet.

I tried to report this issue again with the same result: Issue successfully submitted and then cannot be loaded... What a piece of crap this frontier system...

Luckily someone else has also reported this exact same problem:

That’s not exactly a very descriptive issue report 😅 It doesn’t even mention VR or what the “flashes” are.

Is this like the momentary view displacement when entering SuperCruise or jumping?
If that’s like what you’re seeing since the last Update then I’ll word the report in a similar fashion. Any video recordings will be a great help, if you can provide a link.

You are correct, the report is very sparse on information... I thought devs might prefer a simplistic approach... :)

No, what that other person is reporting is not the same problem... Let me tell you what it looks like:

Imagine that you are flying away from the star, so there are no stars in your view, only the black background. Then every second or two, a star body that covers 2/3 of your view flashes for a tiny fraction of a second in front of you. It is really a millisecond, but enough to recognize the shape of the star... And this happens like once every second, so it is very annoying and blinding... The further you are getting away from the star, the less it is happening. But when you enter a system and while traversing around a star and then flying away from it, it is very frequent and very annoying... It only gets better if you are really further from the star, but it is still there...

It happens always. I tried rebooting, logging the machine off, etc... It is still there and I will not go back to Odyssey, as it is virtually unplayable...

PC, Windows, Vodafone, 100mbps

Thank you for reporting it! (y) ;)
