OK, let's settle this. What is THE best paintjob?

Yeah, there is no one best. Some of the designs really suit the lines of the ship, others don't work as well. For some reason, some of the ships seem to look better with the solids than with the fancies. 🤷‍♂️ Personally, I like to put the paints that are unique to a ship on the ship so it looks different. Used to be more of those then everything got the Asp's Apollo set.

Here's some I like

Actually I think the best ones are the ones I submitted for the paintjob contest but didn't win 😛

There's only one paint job that ticks the box, and that's the worn to scraps paint job of the long range explorer....ok I may be biased, but nothing else compares for me!

Aw man, that reminds me - for many months I took care to let my Phantom's pj wear down; always clicked through the maintenance manually as not to refresh it. I already had it down to just a few % left and looked properly ratty - and then one day, I don't remember how or when or why, I forgot, and hurriedly clicked on the "repair all" button, and floof shiny new paintjob. -_- Very well possible that it was after spending a couple months out in the black and therefore forgetting how the maintenance panel works.
Since I've said f it, the same thing is bound to happen again sooner or later, so now I'll just keep it shiny.

As a little consolation, the Phantom's default pj is already pretty much the best there is for the ship; it's a free Squadron Shadow after all.

I haven’t looked at paintjobs much for a while so didn’t know about the shiny black ones, having bought Midnight Black for every ship I’m likely to ever own I may need to look again - during a sale!

For me it’s Midnight Black for nearly everything. If it can make a Keelback look cool its doing something right.

However, sometimes you’ve got to break your own rules. My stupidly quick Viper, used for winding up inexperienced Gankers, requires a paintjob to reflect its name; Fool’s Gold.

My biggest issue with paintjobs and the reason I don’t use lots of them, is that the design can be great but all too often it conflicts so badly with the nameplate and that just grates with me. That, or they have a great paint design but dreadful manufacturer lettering all over - I can’t remember the one shown below but the huge Lakon lettering means I never really use it.

So, it’s Midnight Black for me…..or maybe the Void Black from now on….but definitely Black:unsure::cool:

Yeah, full ack. Lakon also has a black-metallic paintjob for several ships (including the AspX iirc) that WOULD be really awesome -- if it didn't have a big fat LAKON written all over it in 10 metre tall letters. Why on Earth do they do that. To my knowledge this has zero precedent in any real-world vehicle market, not cars, not airplanes, not luxury yachts.

How good that is depends a little on the starting paint job.

My freighters and explorers tend to have the most wear, my bio hunting Hauler was down to 3% last time I docked, combat ships like my FdLs I usually keep pristine.

They took too much inspiration from clothing designers slapping the brand name across the chest in huge letters. Because everyone has to know you’re wearing the latest and greatest from this fashion brand(urgh).

Actually, wait ... no ... it's this!
My eyes did not approve.

What’s my favorite paintjob? Jury’s still out. Maybe I’ll have decided in a year. It’s probably gonna be something blue or black.

PCGAMESN COBRA.jpg

This one is close, the PCGAMESN paintjob for the Cobra MK III.The iridescent paints are nice as well.
Edit: This was given out through a draw years ago. It is no longer available.
