The number one thing any commander can currently do to improve their safety against many of the dedicated gankers groups out there is to submit to my galactic overlordship by joining the New Dominion squadron. Your Z0Z0 squadron tag will provide you instant immunity from attack by many of the usual CG and hotspot campers with whom I have long-standing alliances.
Imagine going to a CG swarmed by Nomands, SDC and others...and no one interdicting you. Exchange a friendly "Z0" via comms and be on your way. You could actually enjoy the benefits of open while feeling secure under the protection of the galaxy's best PvPers. The same benefit applies to events such as Distant Worlds 2.
There was a time when I was hunted relentlessly by wings from nearly every major PvP group in the galaxy. Conducting any sort of business at hotspot locations was difficult. But I found that by establishing the right alliances, open can be an exceedingly safe place. And it's all as simple as joining the New Dominion squadron. You do not need to be a PvPer, nor even a veteran player to join. The only qualification required is the willingness to accept I, Zarek Null, as your reigning Overlord. It's really that easy.
