On Improving The Safety of Commanders In Game

The number one thing any commander can currently do to improve their safety against many of the dedicated gankers groups out there is to submit to my galactic overlordship by joining the New Dominion squadron. Your Z0Z0 squadron tag will provide you instant immunity from attack by many of the usual CG and hotspot campers with whom I have long-standing alliances.

Imagine going to a CG swarmed by Nomands, SDC and others...and no one interdicting you. Exchange a friendly "Z0" via comms and be on your way. You could actually enjoy the benefits of open while feeling secure under the protection of the galaxy's best PvPers. The same benefit applies to events such as Distant Worlds 2.

There was a time when I was hunted relentlessly by wings from nearly every major PvP group in the galaxy. Conducting any sort of business at hotspot locations was difficult. But I found that by establishing the right alliances, open can be an exceedingly safe place. And it's all as simple as joining the New Dominion squadron. You do not need to be a PvPer, nor even a veteran player to join. The only qualification required is the willingness to accept I, Zarek Null, as your reigning Overlord. It's really that easy.

However, if there isn’t a trace of introspection on the part of the leadership in regards to the launch of the event I humbly suggest there should be. We can always be better than we are.

Definitely needs a rethink from those running future events. Imo hammer home that PG should be the primary choice unless you want to engage in PvP. Thing is I reckon quite a few of the cmdrs sent to rebuy screens where new to the game and naive. A mate of mine wanted to join, only started playing ED after hearing about the mining update.

Gonna go ahead and quote Cap here.

Not today.

Yo mods, can we get a closed thread up in here? I think we’ve got all the good stuff out of it. Cheers, folks.

Of that I have no doubt and that’s fine. I’m sure a lot of people will really enjoy DW2 and that’s great.

Things can always be better. And we're talking here about a specific part, namely setting off from one location. Don't try to spread it out now.

You know where I think lies the problem? And this is poking a stick at a black cat in a dark cellar that might not be there (the cat, not the cellar, the cellar is confirmed). You're a PvP group organiser, you view the encounter as a PvP event that should have been included. While the organisers have chosen to do DWE in a Private Group just to avoid PvP. Now I haven't seen your 'work', but I have read the appreciation of those who did, and from that I conclude you're good at it.

But you'd be crap at organising DWE2, and in reverse the DWE2 organisers would be crap at what you do. Your suggestion to spread out the launch is testament to that. I was on the massive launch on DWE from Pallaeni, and it was Epic. I needed a grinectomy afterwards. DWE needs a massive launch where all players participate since all players will go from here to Beagle Point as a group. It's an explorer community event, and the start of it is just as important as the arrival and the journey. Looking at the map and seeing all the green tags setting off, looking at youtubes from other instances. Knowing 1,500 players in my case, and 11,000+ in this case are all doing what you're doing, are all setting off on the same journey you're going on, is the start DWE needs. The server issues they encountered were a far bigger problem than some ding dongs who have no creativity beyond: something awesome is happening there, lets shoot at anything that moves.

Back to the participants. If the participants aren't complaining, if they themselves take responsibility for arriving in Open. If the organisers have stated it would be best to arrive in a Private Group, and if it's important that the launch is a mass launch, which it is, on this specific point, the organisers did all they could do. And what they did they did well.

The main reason for the number of CMDRs arriving in Open is the 3,000 - 4,000 applicants in the last week. I was still talking about 8,000 when there were 10,000, then 11,000. I keep saying 11,000 but I've heard it actually was 12,000. So thousands of players got a whiff of the hype, thought they wanted a piece of it and didn't read up on the advice that was given.

I think we’ve got all the good stuff out of it. Cheers, folks.
Now you do :p

Cheerio Phisto!
