On the loading screen maybe, but not in the 84 Original. Frontier had some exteriors but could you fly it like that?
Yes and you can also get personal "Pets" like Unicorns which you can dress up with cosmetics that you buy from the store.
I suspect camera will be limited in-cockpit and thus most likely not that usable during combat. It is also designed to be something in-game explanatory.

I think it was Elite 2? I dont remember. All I remember is I had to take off from a planet and I could see the thrusters from 3rd person view while doing so.

It might be a bloke for all we know, ever see some of the npcs? They are questionable.
We've always had the ability to make it possible. FDev have specifically disallowed it. Something something about unfair advantages and immersion.

Sorry if I sound a little ish, I'm a stickler for the rules. ...and yes, previous games had non-human creatures, however that has been retconned in Elite: Dangerous. So until Michael or David say otherwise... only humans for now.
