On those mostly negative reviews on steam

Steam player statistics ONLY count how many people on Steam currently have the game running. When i linked the game to Steam it counted as runing on Steam when you launch it, so it was added to the charts.
Any more theories to debunk?
Steam show the game running but doesn't count it for charts.
I can even change the name and put a ridiculous name like "cat meme generator" and steam will tell my friends I'm playing "cat meme generator". Not sure it would work for ED specifically, but I know from experience it works for other games.

If the key is not activated on steam, then it's not counted, period. Your friend will see you are playing, you will have the name and icon and everything, but not the stats for steamchart and Steam itself.

I would actually consider refunding you if you promise to never come back. Just give me your bank details.
You get me wrong. I love ED. It's the single game I play (time is limited as father of two, fulltime job etc).
As for ODY - first DLC in years - I had hoped they would have done something different than just implement a plain shooter. But I can live it.

What I have trouble accepting is the fact that the DLC (if I play it) make me sick. The framerate on a 34" QHD screen gets so low, that it feels like DOOM in the early 90's.
Thats not OK - even more so considering my PC is well above recommended spec.

I tried a refund, but the support guy just said "no" and he also "hoped" performance would improve for me sometime in the future.

And there it is again... "hope"... that I can play a new (shipped and bought) DLC on a modern PC and atleast reach 60 FPS... sometime in the future.

I am not happy to wait for that, especially not as I can't get my money back.

I have been robbed of my money, and the seller is "hoping" things will improve.

That's why I am angry.

As long as they keep my money for something thats clearly not in order - I will rampage at will.

But you can refund me as well. And I will be gone.

I can block my steam account from others, and people will think i never play games. It doesn't matter what your friends see. It's what Steam registers when you launch a game. It knows what you are playing, else it wouldn't be able to launch it.

Need to check correlation with age of players remain/dropped.
I put a bet those were young ones (i mean below 35 about). So they just drop the game. They wouldn't play it in any case. "Too long SC and no teleports".

ED received a new DLC as well ...
But that was a few weeks earlier than Planet Zoo. Actually, we should probably use the Alpha release because it seems like that's when most people tried Odyssey first. Do people understand that more people play something simultaneously when there is a new release?

That's the no. 1 reason why concurrent players go up and down, not because people are leaving the game.

how do you explaine the 6000 player spike between Nov 19 to Nov 22
We can't be that picky with dates. Steam charts is already a statistical representation of the larger population. I DO believe this - I had only one class about statistics in University (Business Administration), but I think it does apply: sample, confidence levels, etc.

There are a lot of factors to account for: COVID, big patches, small patches to correct the big patches problems, etc.

It doesn't change the reality that player numbers are going down. Is it higher than in 2014 2015? Well, yeah. Are we in a good spot? I don't think so.

Stop being reasonable plz.

I am proud of you guys, finally didnt take the fdev vomit and didnt drink it with lemon on top.
I personally never bought or preordered and dont plan on doing so, only reason why I would ever get it for 1 digit price is to slap in negative review for what they are doing.
Keep going and lets get overwhelmingly negative, maybe then we will get what we paid for, not this "demo" after 3 years in development
Why though?

It would be awesome if all the people who hate the game finally move on, nobody needs you.
I'm not sure the context of your statement.

For players like me I love the overall game but Odyseyy DLC gives me frustration and disappointment. Even if its all cleaned-up and works great it doesn't seem like there is much addition to the spaceship aspect of the gameplay. Which is what drew me to the game. I'm still happy to play Horizons but I'm sure I will have moved on by 2014(?) when maybe the next major expansion happens to the game.

Edit:
I agree that anybody that hates the game really doesn't belong on these forums. They are wasting their own time and not really adding much value.
