One Limpet Controller for All Limpets

Limpets are an important tool for interacting with the environment in Elite, but having them split into eight different modules means artificial limitations on how we can interact with NPCs and the environment. After all, how frustrating is it to come across something interesting, like a hackable port, but not be able to hack in because you chose to outfit two or three different limpets controllers? And they're all the same limpet anyway! This barrier hurts the game.

What I suggest is one controller for all limpets in order to give Cmdrs greater access to the physical world of Elite and players more access to gameplay.

This could work by arming a limpet, choosing the desired program (hack, collection, fuel, repair, etc.) then firing.

There are plenty of methods to balance this. One idea: Perhaps you need to purchase programming + 3D printing rights in order to reliably and efficiently program and print limpets. Without the programming and blueprints limpets aren't 100% reliable and cost more to build. Of course you could still purchase limpets and maybe they cost more.

Q4 is another opportunity for Frontier to make this change and with the introduction of probes for the scanner, making these changes to limpets makes as much sense as ever.

o7 Cmdrs.

The correct term is 'one controller to rule them all'. AKA universal controller. :)Been proposed several times. So far FD commented that they are thinking about letting us place several controllers into a 'controller rack', allowing several smaller controllers in one module slot.

I think the current system should simply be flipped instead of different controllers and one limpet type. It’s one controller available in all current grades since statewide they are identical. Then you stock different limpets. So for example you take 5 hatch breakers and 10 collector limpets with you.

Whatever they do it will be useful. I’m a fuel rat but I don’t always have room for 2 types of controllers so when I’m off duty I swap out for a collector. If they do this I’ll be able to always keep a couple fuel transfer limpets on me.

Yep, I'm all for it too. 1 controller, several different limpets that need to be loaded or crafted on the road.
