One Simple suggestion that could nullify the Solo/Open argument AND end the fear of Greifing

lol

i think a lot of us older gamers that were around when the original game was out dont like online.for me i play a game to be god and be my own master.

i dont like the idea of some loud mouthed jerk blowing me out of the sky with no warning or reasons.....im not against online gaming if it makes people happy.

so i am currently sticking to solo...the only thing that can possibly make me go online is if i had a group of mates to play with.like a bit of security i suppose.

should i not be scared of online? when i see another human in a online game it gives me the same vibe as if someone was standing right in my face (aura) breaks my fantasy.

that and finding a group, getting on vent and hearing them do nothing but complain

Yeah, there's that, for one thing. PvE Groups like Mobius offer guaranteed co-op play with any other players you meet, just as a PvP Group can offer guaranteed consensual PvP. Groups are a great way to join others with similar goals, while interacting with the NPC environment. This idea would remove both those options which are currently active in the game.

It would also remove many "emergent" options for player interaction in All Online, like spotting a PC miner and offering to ride shotgun for a share of the ore. Or spotting a PC in a tough fight where you're both strongly allied to the same faction, where you decide to help out. Or the opposite, help kill him because he's an opposed faction.

It was discussed in the DDF, and since it didn't make it into the 1.0 release, I can't imagine FD changing it now.

I love that solution but I am afraid it is utopia as we have the tools but I for one haven't heard of a pvp group with a volume that does not imply having only fully equipped pythons as active players in the group.

Simple really....

Just don't differentiate players and NPC's on the scanner.

1) You can't greif players if you cant't distinguish them from AI's
2) It would make interdictions so much more unpredictable and exiting.
3) It would completely eliminate the need for a solo mode, hence eliminate the switching exploits and all the arguing...
But... but... I like to say 'Hi!' to any real life commanders I see in the system.

How do you know new people won't buy? Even if word does get around that PvP is not paramount in the game, just think of all those new players who might flock to the game precisely because of that.

Hehe, a good point. I think some PvPers might have trouble getting their heads around that concept though... that there are people who will actually be attracted to buy a game which is cooperative not competitive.

So opinions needs evidence? -Where are yours?

And what about this one: "And its not even true" -Your tone implies you got some facts for this WITH evidence

It seems you need a break and move on from this thread

I do. It's all either on the frontier website or the kickstarter or has been said many many times by FD staff either here on the forums or in interview.

Here is an example, as I am on the right PC for this.

David Braben:
It is important that players enjoy the experience. We are writing this game for ourselves, and the fun of the game is the most important thing. Player-player encounters should be interesting, and part of this is the ability to hide - whether from other players or AIs.

Most of the ships you encounter will be AIs - and in many cases you will kill them - which is why we want the majority to be AIs. Generally speaking we expect players, even beginners, to be more of a challenge than an AI ship, and something that players will tend not to attack, but more cooperate with, and we are designing the bounty system (and others) to discourage PvP and encourage player cooperation.

See? Evidence. Now, let's see the other side's.

I dont like to win in PvP either because my sense of empathy is to high

So my options are

- feel sorry for wining
- feel bad for loosing
- feel great about wining but only because the opponents make me mad

its a loose loose situation for me

It seems there is a huge fear of being ganked or griefed by other players.
Why is that so?
I'm pretty sure most of the people rejecting open play were never in any pvp situation at all.

Not necessarily. Many people coming to this game have prior experience in other MMO's. The audience for ED may tilt a little older than many other MMO's, but human nature doesn't change, and that's going to affect attitudes about how much PvP people do or don't want.

I'm an original 80's Elite player who generally steers clear of multiplayer games due to the seeming over abundance of teenage boys with maturity issues (eg I didn't realise how many 12 years olds had f*&ked my mum until I played Counterstrike...)

That said, I see solo in Elite Dangerous as an Easy mode. Nothing more, nothing less.

The AI is predictable and very beatable. Even as a pretty average player I run out of ammo at Nav Beacons long before I encounter something I can't kill. However, when I went to fight in the Conflict Zone in Sorbago I got nailed by a CMDR in mid battle (I ended up rebuying my ship and interdicting him leaving the combat zone, we duked it out and he eventually gave up.. probably because repairs and ammo wouldn't be worth killing me again!!)

I have no problem with people playing the game in Easy mode (Solo), especially if you love the zen of ETS2 style hauling, exploring or mining. That said, the thrill of meeting opponents who are unpredictable and probably very good makes this universe real for me.

My final comment echoes one of the above, apart from the conflict zone I've **never** seen another player online despite many dozens of hours play. My bet is if they secretly put all Solo players onto the Open servers they would probably never notice....

Probably because nobody has even stepped for to try to make something FOR the PvPers By the PvPers.

That is actually not true, I have seen at least 3 different threads where people have tried to start a PvP group. They get about 10 responses and then they die. This is because there are not enough pvp oriented people playing this game to support it, or the ones that say they want "pvp" don't actually want people ready to shoot back at them, they just want harmless people to prey upon.

Again and again this comment comes up and it is so true. I too haven't seen a player in ages. It honestly is no different from Solo. So, that being said. Why do the very vocal minority want solo closed down? Because even if they get their wish the galaxy is HUGE, they still won't have the barrel full of targets they think they will.

If you don't want to interact with other players, just go to solo mode.

I don't see what good hiding players among NPC's will accomplish?

People hiding in solo is a problem for some because it reduces interaction between players. Just as OP suggestion would.
As it stands, the open/solo choice is a good middle ground.

If you just want to play Elite: Space-Trucker and not have to worry about players trying to get you, then you go solo.

If you want some player on player action you bumble about in open, simple.

Yeah. You could be right. There has to be a will... and there obviously isn't.

Please define 'interaction'.

Because the galaxy is that huge, we need more player in open world.

Surely, it is nice for some time to be the only child playing at a lonely beach building sandcastles.

But for how long?
