But as I said, I am not affected yet, and maybe it will resolve itself in several weeks, and maybe I will play in the meantime, but careful not to grind for things which are possibly just taken away later for some 'other nice narrative'.

New player, eh? Joined forums in January? You didn't care to unlock Palin for how many months? 6? 7? 9?
And now, when Palin is missing for 2 days, suddenly it's a tragedy.
Quite a big one, even after you admitted that you "still need to learn about Palin, so it does not affect my plans (yet) "

Honestly, you really think you are goin to miss him for yet another 1-2 weeks past all those months?
But why not pretending to be offended on behalf of those that cannot unlock Palin in this very moment - nope, not you - as far as game is concerned, you don't even know Palin exists.

As a side note, I'm a new player too - but i had all the bubble engineers unlocked - except Lori - after about 2 months after starting up.
Even then, it been quite a while after unlocking them until i could afford to have everything G5, because i was lacking them materials...
Yes, my Krait mk2 was doing low intensity CZ with G3 clean drives :)

Simple question again: is this a short narrative from fdev, or a permanent removal of an engineer/upgrades?

I've played this game since 2014, and I'm quite sure Palin's G5 thrusters were only a relatively recent unlock for me.

I often wonder if people are really playing the game these days, or just following nonsense speed run youtube videos by supposed 'experts and astronomers' which seem designed to remove all possible fun from the experience.

I agree that this would have made more sense, and hopefully they'll add the ability to do that to a future release for the next time an engineer gets attacked.

That said, Palin is unusual in only really having one useful blueprint to pin - if someone like Broo Tarquin or Tod McQuinn got hit, even with a pinned blueprint veterans would still lose a fair bit of local capability.

Dont think there is a single cmdr on xbox one over there i pop over every few hours to have a look an not 1 person in the system!

Pity that stuff like this only occurs on the Thursday morning tick. Maybe if the FDevs throw more content like this onto us at random times, then I'd probably play more!

The narrative actually got me to load up the game & check it out........& I don't enjoy pewpew with 'goids or anyone else for that matter......still worth the checkout though & a bit of thinking got me docked in Palin's Resource Centre base!
I'm now even looking into putting AX weapons on my Krait (just in case) as my first attempt towards the base cost me a 6mil rebuy!

I know the Engineer will reappear within the next couple of weeks, if not back in Maia then somewhere else, can't see what the issue is with the whingers, after all, it's not the ONLY thing to do in the game now is it?

When I stuck some AX weapons on a basically un-engineered ship and went to join-in shooting Thargoids, was I doing it wrong? Should I have waited until I owned every piece of equipment and possible upgrade to build the perfect ship before I started? Was all that fun just wasted? :)

Were I actually able to play, I'd gladly go rip out my G5 DD right now and go "Look ma! Still playin'!".

Honestly... I rekon if I recorded defeating a ship without a G5 DD I'd probably become more popular than Obsidian Ant based on the reactions to this...

Has anyone tried just talking to these Thargoids? I think these guys just need a hug. Basic tip for any confrontation scene, lift your visor up or remove your sunglasses when talking, you make real eye contact. The visor/glasses only create an antagonistic barrier.

I might fly out there with an olive branch.
