Open Letter to Frontier!!!!

Aw that's sweet OP. I'm really trying to love the game still after 4 years and about 3000 hours. Yeh I guess the total disregard for the pvp playing field or players is ok. I guess the fact that the game is really not fundamentally improved that much from when it released 5 years ago, is ok too (ok that's a little harsh, but not completely unfair). I guess the fact that my 120 slot inventory of modules is not sortable or organisable in any way shape or form is also acceptable these days and normal for a AAA game. I guess I shouldn't be too disurbed by the lack of persistent elements in a game universe that purports to take itself seriously (such as when a pirate follows you to a system they could not possibly reach and gets a free ship and loadout swap somewhere in witchspace), I guess the fact that the economy is totally buggered because half the people grind and took advantage of schoolboy style failures to anticipate how players would abuse something to exploit their way to billions, on the back of the regular gold rushes, or are like me and don't do gold rushing and are therefore poor by comparison, ios also fine. I guess the fact that multiple borked attempts to fix the resource gathering system have left us no better off now than we were at horizons release (with the exception of engineer commodities, phew, dodged a bullet there!), because of some insane fear of 'over-giving' (bar the weird and equally inappropriate, just from the other perspective Void Opal patch, which has now just been whisked off our table right when we were starting to get used to it, and then introduced a supply and demand economy that I don't think anyone ever asked for, and still not let us STOCK things for a rainy day or to drive supply or demand!?) shouldn't bother me that much either.

This way of catering to some players (solo hardcore explorers that want to have to clean the space barnacles off their plasma injectors before a jump) in some areas, and other types of players in other areas (action gamers and pvpers), just creates bigger gaps between playstyles and ensures that you can never please more than a small percentage of the playerbase at the same time, which leads to people on the forums equally posting congrats threads and 'sort your crap out' threads. I guess by posting this I perpetuate the cycle. FD, please fix the outfitting interface, do something about premium ammo in pvp (a warning would suffice, like we get for every OTHER special effect), make the game more convenient for action gamers to play without removing the manual options for the hardcore, OR messingn with their FSS. Give pvp some love by balancing a few special effects and making it more difficult to fight in reverse, please be more generous with g5 manufactured engineering mats, as you have been so kind as to provide us easy access to raws (though unfortunately, again a double edged sword as this compounds the no-warning premium ammo problem)...and another thing...

...greetings. I am Ashenfox's dictation software. This rant went on for quite some time.I'll save you the trouble and just give you the essence of the conclusion...it was something about waffles. FD, some love for hardcore players? Please?

OP, I can see from a PvE point of view, that is, excepting AX Interceptor combat, that the game is peachy and fine. And, indeed, Most Commanders may be PvE, so on the whole, Fdev has happy clientele.

This is not the case with AX interceptor combat or PvP. The combat playstyle pushes the networking and coding to the limit. If there are any inconsistencies or issues with the coding, we PvPers experience it in gory detail. There are many PvP breaking bugs that most PvE Commanders will never experience. I am glad the game is great for YOU. But please remember that you have brother and sister Commanders who are disappointed daily because game mechanisms that are ESSENTIAL to our playstyle have been broken for years.

And then things get worse because PvEers and PvPers seem incapable of walking in each other's shoes.

When we PvPers become upset because of game bugs, we complain on the forums. Unfortunately, we sometimes are impolite and salty about the bugs. Then non-combat folk complain about PvPers complaining.... Remember, that although a Commander may have 8k hours in the game, if they do not PvP, they will have not experienced what PvPers experience daily. Some of these PvE veterans may discount the legitimate complaints of PvPers because their PvE experience has always been professional. Then a naive person clicks into Open, gets blown up and posts on the forum. All hell breaks loose. The divide between PvE and PvP explodes.

Once again, I am extremely glad that many people find Elite to be so praiseworthy. But the PvE playstyle is not the only one.

Thanks for listening.

Ah the forum has returned to normalcy. Relatively unknown Community Member posts a heart felt positive post about the game. A few echo or reinforce those views. Then the ugly collective mindset jumps in - how dare someone say anything positive about the game. The posts start, refuting the OP's idiotic suggestion that the game is fine and is fun, recounting their tales of terror and doom.

Normal forum life ….

So, he posted an open letter to tell everyone their problems and complaints aren't legitimate because he hasn't had to deal with them... And that all complaints are stupid. That is not a logical way to deal with things. It's literally part of the real problem.

Did he? Which letter is that then, the one here that states 'From the perspective of this commander' making it abundantly clear that he's expressing his personal opinion and which only refers to his own satisfaction?

Or a different (and wholly imaginary) one in which he wrote something about other people's complaints not being legitimate and also said they were stupid?

Perhaps you need to engage with reality a little more often.

Thanks for a super game that I still enjoy playing. No, really. There’s a lot of negativity on this forum, and with each passing day a new thread with a passive aggressive dig at you is posted.

From the perspective of this commander, everything is peachy. I don’t see the bugs some people claim are making the game unplayable. In fact I can play the game nearly every day - baby duties permitting.

Every evening, I log on after prepping a nice cup of chamomile tea. I play a few missions, maybe hunt some Thargoids, or just goof around. It’s all good with me.

Can’t say I’m that bothered about Fleet Carriers so when they come they come and I’m sure it’ll be fun and new to try out. Haven’t missed Galnet much. Didn’t even notice it and CG’s were no longer a thing. I’m a commander, always will be. And I just have fun playing the game the way I want to.

Speaking of which. The things I want to do include visiting the Thargoid bases and get more involved with my player faction in the BGS - but I never seem to have the time. It’s a wonder they haven’t thrown me out yet 😊

So, like so said, all is peachy. When the big update drops I know it’ll be great and if there are some teething problems - well, these things happen. Oh, and I’d also happily pay good money for future updates and ARX. The way I see it, thirty quid paid over four years ago for a game I still play daily seems almost extortionately unfair. In the meantime if I get bored playing I‘ll probably go for a walk or spend time with my family - because that’s what adults do.

So, yeah. All good here. Love the game. Love you all at FDev. Thanks for a fantastic experience and keep up the good work.

What, no lengthy tirades against the uneducated, unwashed masses? No accusations of sock puppetry? No claims of moral and intellectual superiority?

Damn, you letting the OP and others off very lightly here....

The OP is entitled to their opinion, even if I disagree with it. And as of yet they have not manifested the signs of sychophancy and sock-puppetry of some others we know. ;)

Wow that's never stopped you in the past, you must be getting soft or something ;)

You want more closed letters? OK, here's mine...

Dear Frontier,

I am also very happy with Elite: Dangerous and it is my favorite game of all time. With over 6k hours within the game, I still very much enjoy playing and it's my go to game of choice when I return from work or at the weekends.

So thank you, everyone at Frontier, for a really fantastic game and I am really looking forward to the Fleet Carrier update and the new era update at the end of the year.

The duality of the forum. ;) It's just the complement to the following story:

Relatively unknown community member posts a heart felt post about a certain bug preventing them from enjoying the game. A few echo or reinforce those views. Then the ugly collective mindset jumps in - how dare someone say anything negative about the game. The posts start, refuting the OP's idiotic suggestion that there's a bug in the game, recounting their tales of never having encountered one and how it's all OP's fault.

Perfectly balanced, as all things should be.
