I know - it's great, isn't it?(or not, as the case may be)
More seriously, I expect that everyone has a slightly different personal definition of that term.
A bunch of magically untouchable ships would not fit my definition.

Having a universe where some ships are simply immune to being fired upon would absolutely kill the realism and immersion of the game. If you can't handle the idea of being challenged by other players, stick to PG or solo.
And no, I don't care what "other MMOs" do. Open PvE-only mode is a terrible idea.
A version of open where your ship and those of others are for some reason immune to weapons and ramming damage isn't "open" at all, but an extended tutorial mode. And if the PvE crowd gets its own version of open, how long until other special interest groups start clamoring for theirs?
"I'm a bounty hunter. I want a mode where all ships have bounties on them, because that's my playstyle."
"I'm an explorer. I want a mode where everything is undiscovered and I get all the exploration credit."
"I'm a trader. I want a mode where every system is in Boom and I can haul as many rares as I want!"
"I'm a miner. I want a mode where the most valuable ores drop instantly without me having to search for them."
"I'm a pirate/criminal. I want a mode where all Authority and NPC bounty hunters are removed. Also, I don't feel like I should ever get a bounty for my decisions because that's penalizing my playstyle."
If these requests seem absurd, imagine how "I don't like PvP. I want a mode where it doesn't exist!" sounds... especially since you literally already have two of them.
For all intents and purposes, PvP doesn't exist in Mobius. But that isn't good enough, is it?
And it's not about me losing anything. It's about the absurd entitlement of demanding that Frontier create a special mode in which a core feature of the game is butchered just because you don't like it.
Anndddd....here we are again, back to the exact same circular argument this community has been having for over four years now.
10. PvE'ers just want an official mode which suits their preferred cooperative playstyle, without any PvP.
20. PvP'ers don't want the PvE'ers to have an official PvE mode because it doesn't fit their preferences.
30. PvP'ers tell the PvE'ers that they already have Solo and the Mobius Private Group and that's good enough.
40. Goto 10.
So fracking tiring.
PvE players deserve no less than the same consideration and opportunities to play together which PvP players get, and anyone who suggests otherwise is just being obstinate and selfish.
I vote we take away Open mode entirely and force the PvP players to create their own Private Group just for PvP oriented people. A PvP version of Mobius, I'm sure someone would be generous enough to create and manage it. See if their opinions change then.
And I vote that we lock BGS & Powerplay manipulation into Open only. Check. And. Mate.
Boom!
PvE players deserve no less than the same consideration and opportunities to play together which PvP players get, and anyone who suggests otherwise is just being obstinate and selfish.
I laughed at this... "realism and immersion" .. I guess if you get killed you start over with a new commander, if not then THAT blows your realism and immersion argument out the window. And if you even do.. you can continue to play in Open PVP where that does not happen and all shots hurt.
Ooh lets go with a slippery slope argument... now where have I seen this type of fallacy argument before... OH YEA From those who feel I am an abomination. Apparently I can't marry who I want to because by doing so suddenly it leads to people marrying their siblings, then animals, then inanimate objects, where does this insanity end.. it is the end of the world!!!
Hmm... sounds more like CQC to me... and PVP isn't a core feature in the game. How many times has it affected PP or BGS.... lets go with ... it doesn't.
And to tell you bluntly.. NO IT ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH. You want to know why? Because Mobius and others have to bend over backwards to get people who want into the right group, keep goldfish commanders out and to manage the groups as a whole. This is NOT something players should be doing, it is something the company should be doing.
and PVP isn't a core feature in the game.
How many times has it affected PP or BGS.... lets go with ... it doesn't.
Let me repeat myself:
Boom.
Please provide a substantive argument why they should not.
Because the game wants you to pvp in 2 out 3 modes, and not doing it is going against its spirit, thats why you need to rig your routers, block, solo undermining etc.
That is popycock and you know it... the game doesn't want you to PVP... it is just an option to... YOU want FORCE people to PVP. Your whole statement is nothing more than Antagonistic trolling.
I dont need to force anyone the game already does it, unless you go to solo or start rigging your router.
I just login and start shooting, you are the one who needs to take additional steps to router rig/block/apply for private groups or disconnect yourself in solo.
That's funny, you log in and start shooting, I log in and start scanning. We both play in Open. Fancy that?
All these threads with their whinging and moaning make me want to start undermining in Solo.
It sounds almost as much fun as seal clubbing.
Frontier disagree
And I've explained countless times how it does affect PP and the BGS. As usual you're ignoring this because it doesnt suit your rhetoric.
It's way more fun than seal clubbing! The game pays you to do it!
Nothing stopping you from hunting other commanders...that has always been in the game!
There is nothing about CATCHING other commanders in the game is there? Marketing speak gets you guys out every time! LOL!

Thats becsuse the game wasnt created as carebear safe spot and creating a group of 20K carebears is going against the game's spirit, that's why they have to bend backwards to accommodate their safespot.
Frontier disagree
My rhetoric? Funny as I'm not the one demanding they change the game for my playstyle.. but yes you have explained.. but again the affect is the same as if an NPC did it... otherwise... ZIPPO...And I've explained countless times how it does affect PP and the BGS. As usual you're ignoring this because it doesnt suit your rhetoric.

Irrelevant personal anecdotes aside, the question remains unanswered: why is it valid for you to demand a game mode that does away with a core mechanic of the game (and yes- PvP is a core mechanic) and yet the examples I posted where players of various playstyles making their own request for a tailored open experience are for some reason invalid?
Or are you the only one entitled to a version of open with only the features you like?
It isn't a slippery slope. It's consistency.
Leave it to Mobius apologists to cheapen the struggle of millions of people worldwide in their endless crusade to be bad at a video game.
Not a good look, buddy.
Word salad
Funny how I never said it wasn't part of the game (as you pointed out) but that it isn't a core part of the game... in that besides blowing a ship up and causing a rebuy screen (just as an NPC opponent would do) what does it effect does it have on the game itself... zippo
