Modes Open mode balancing proposal

That doesn't answer the question now, does it? The question- is that if the way things work now (non-consensual PvP) wasn't a "problem", then why would they have the intention of introducing a consensual PvP system to begin with? Why bother?

Apparently they've recognized that the FFA PvP in Open isn't working.

Consensual. PvP. Sucks. And it is unrealistic, at best.

And it is more about objectives and not consensuality. T9 with softcore mags does not want PvP. And he should not be able to dodge it that easy.

Oh, did I leave that part out?

The painfully obvious answer (to your original question) is no.

They implemented powerplay for some of the same reasons faction warfare was introduced in Eve Online.

Conflict is fun.

Giving players a reason to engage in ever changing and expanding conflict is good game design.

And if "conflict" already exists in the game in the form of non-consensual PvP- why the necessity to introduce a whole framework around it? Conflict, being conflict, yes?

Simple quips and comments won't work here. It doesn't substantially answer why they felt the need to address it at all- because if it was "foin" the way they introduced it, then they wouldn't even bother with it years later.

Why did you buy a game that unabashedly encourages organic PvP if you think organic PvP is a problem?

Some people just don't get games.

Again, you're being evasive with the question. Doesn't matter what I personally think of PvP, "organic" or otherwise.

What matters is that they've spoken intent to make changes to a mechanic that already exists in the game.

So do you have anything to actually answer the question directly- or must we continue with the personal redirection?

Unrealistic?

You do understand you're playing a computer game?
You're not really flying a spaceship, you know that right?

I also own a copy of the Sun Tzu Art of War Book and have read it from cover to cover.
There isn't a section about PC gaming in it or about people who don't want to play with you.
There is a bit about knowing when you've been beaten and how to save face when you lose.
You may want to brush up on that section, as you're embarrassing yourself now.

The whole premise of this game is "consensual" interactions.
If you don't like the fact that others have to choose to let you interact with them, you picked the wrong game.
My T9, my Cutter, my Anaconda, my Beluga and my Corvette have full access to all of the game, no matter your opinion.
This is how it was designed.

You want a PvP environment where no one can avoid you get an Arena group together, or you can try;

Organic PvP is good. That's all we have now.
Whats missing is context to this organic PvP, we need to be able to interact with the game enviroment through pvp, and if PP was open only we would have exactly that.
Right now there is no context for pvp except shoot everyone and mine salt or 1 v 1 me bro.

I am ok playing with possibility of such pvp. Without it, this game is too easy and bland. And I would be playing that mode 100% of the time if I didn't have said quick toggle.
It is too quick and without punishment to press it whatsoever. Moreover, fact of it's presence makes it so you handicap yourself if you do not use it.
And that is the issue which should be adressed. Somehow.

This conflict is "optional". And there is no framework around it whatsoever.

Ok, so you're asserting that the reason for the change to PP is to create "context", yes?

Why bother to make it "consensual", if it's already non-consensual by default then?

You can chose to not participate. Why it have to be more "consensual" than that?

Player choice in regard to "participation" has existed from the release of the game... therefore, again- irrelevant to the question.

I repeat- why bother making a change to make PP "consensual" PvP- when non-consensual PvP already exists by default?

Non-consensual PvP is also less than desirable - for those who don't find PvP to be "fun" - thankfully it remains an optional extra in the game.

What do you define by "consensual" in double quote marks?

Did you watch the video link Jockey posted in which Sandro announces their intent for the changes to the PP system?

If you did- you'll understand the emphasis. So are you going to answer the question, or continue dancing around it?

Watched the vid. You opted in - you had consented for being higher profile PvP target, in exchange for bonuses.
I ask again - why it have to be anything else than that? Because some people want to be rewarded for nothing?

The question was why FD would make a change to PP to make PvP "consensual" when in essence, Open is by default non-consensual PvP to begin with.

So you've chosen to dance around the question. Figured as much.

I do not get why you say that I am dancing. My position is rather clear.

Open is consenting to being PvPed at any moment. And it should be rewarded, or there are no reasons to use this mode.
PP should become open only or by 75% margin at least. Opting in means you are increasing your chances of being PvPed.
Same as going wanted. No one asks "PvP?" from a wanted target. They are just getting pulled.
