Open-Only in PP2.0?

Nope, that's an edited screenshot where they've removed the real tasks.

The so-called activities there are the wrong font, colour and size.

just to put any specilations to rest: @Alec Turner 's screenshot is from Sab's stream from today, found here. You can see the system in question at 2:33:25, and the screenshot is clearly not doctored. It's also worth listening to what he is saying. Of course it is all speculation, but the image shows what Archon Delaine can do in that contested systems. Do we have screenies from other powers of contested systems? Does their task list differ? Genuine question. Just because the tasks for Delaine include "go commit crimes" doesn't mean PP 2.0 is designed for criminals. Just sayin'.

Having said that: Maybe it's time to put that fable of "Powerplay is designed for PvP" to rest. I don't know, and frankly don't care, if it was different in PP 1.0, but I have watched a LOT of PP 2.0 preview content, and there is a plethora of tasks given to the player, and virtually NONE says "this is meant for PvP". Alec's screenshot is the only occurence I have seen so far that as much as mentions PvP. And that's possibly because Kumo is a crew of murder hobos by design.

Question for those in the know.

What is the effect of lag on PvP encounters in ED with its P2P architecture.

I've experienced it winging up for PvE and it seems to ruin everyone's experience when it comes to killing NPCs.

Does it make it harder for both sides to land hits in PvP.

I ask this, because my motherboard network adapter is borked (never in my life have i seen this happen before) so now on a rubbish wi-fi adapter, which adds some lag. Throughput is good, just a delay on everything. So, now, when i jump, there is a little lag in it. When i open the galaxy map, there is a lag. Etc.

In an open only environment, am i going to be "ruining" the game for anyone who attacks me?

Thats the risk you take, given you know others are about (those who contested in the first place and the other side).
Some might choose to play it that way, if an Open bonus were implemented - some might choose to make extensive use of the block feature instead. Noting that there will be calls to be unable to block pledged players, also noting that all that that would do is make those who deserve to be blocked unblockable as they would pledge.

So they'd block on sight? Do you also know the majority would do that?

The so-called 'G5 murderboats' (who aren’t cheating, of course) operate within a designed ecosystem where their risk in Open is lower due to preparation.
Simply because some players have mastered a specific advantage doesn’t negate the underlying game mechanics at work.

Indeed.

Simply because some players have prepared and equipped their ships for easy fun - catching weaker players who haul - they should be rewarded less than the players who equipped their ships for the actual hard work. You guys participate risk-free.

PP will be done with hard work couriering and hauling and sabotaging (all in adequately equipped ships), not with haw-hawing in a murder wing waiting for victims.

Maybe - just as any player can choose to at the moment.
Do you also know the majority would do that?
No-one knows - however it would be an option for players who wanted the reward without the PvP - which shows why a blanket bonus for Open is ill targeted, i.e. it would be able to be "earnt" without meeting opposing players.

Any lag is at a minimum going to affect you in a Pvp encounter. It may affect others, but my open play is usually at Titans or Spire sites and if busy those locations always lag so I expect yes you will impact most players.

Also, you can go into your bios and shut off the on board network, this is not working, there should be an enable/disable networking on the board option. Then if you have a free motherboard slot, you could buy a wired networking card from amazon and go back to wired.

Given all the complaints about the opposition, never those from the Powerplay group complaining, maybe (but not certainly) playing not-in-Open, it seems the not knowing can be an issue for some players.
In the end its finding a compromise- there will be limitations, but at the same time there has to be strategic reasons for being in open for this phase of expansion instead of solo since you can choose.

Unless we have not seen something (which is possible) this phase of expansion is nearly identical to PPV1 now- scant NPCs (and the reason Open was mooted).

Rebuys may be free but ship contents, for those who aren't engaged in combat, are not. So the "free rebuy" perk is next to useless for those players (given that ship contents may be worth massively more than the rebuy).
Once again the biggest gank ever carried out in the history of the game was the "muh realisms" crowd insisting in the original design and discussion forum that "death should have consequences".

Making players no longer lose bonds on death was one of the best things to ever happen to AX combat.

Not without effectively removing something from the PvE gameplay of players with no interest in PvP.
Its a choice- risk it, gain more or be safe, and progress more slowly. I could argue the opposite too- in this case PvE taking away from PvP.

Again, this aspect is a microcosm of V1- absence of NPCs...in this case, because its all happening before Powers take over.

There used to be a HUD element for cargo insurance - I don't remember players seeking its removal.

Indeed - handily reducing the adverse effects of unwanted PvP while engages in AX combat.
