Open-Only in PP2.0?

I don't know about this game, but I've seen people play Fallout 76, and for some reason they're not sneaking around and hiding around every corner. And if someone meets a player who is stronger than him, he gets prizes and congratulations from him and not death. I guess the anarchic world after a nuclear war is more civilized than Elite space.
After years of adjustments to the PvP system following the utterly disastrous launch.
Initially there were no controls on ganking and player numbers tanked. Bethesda reacted with various measures and loopholes which allowed ganking to continue. Hotel California is as much a thing in '76 as it is here and Bethesda's solution for persistent troublemakers is nowhere near as effective as Fdev's.

So that's the million dollar question ?
What is acceptable for one is griefing or unfair for another hence these threads.
Me personally PP I will accept, but also I don't PP , CZ are questionable at best so one leaves the other stays.

I personally don't think PvP is necessary in game and will disagree whole heartedly with open only PP , as some may have guessed due to my other posts.
So the Möbius rules of engagement suit me to the ground even in open.
imo PvP in a CZ in open is absolutely fine if on opposite teams. that is literally the point of a CZ and why you pick a side.
of course what the berks do is deliberately join on the same team or alternatively choose not to sign up and instead do an alpha strike on a player which means the battle can be almost over before the "victim" has chance to react.

That is not what I want in elite so I play in mobius.... but imo any player in open who gets blown up in a CZ by a player on the opposite team does not have much grounds on which to complain imo. anyone who doesn't like it should not go into a cz in open

These are the definitions that I attribute to ganking and greifing .

Ganking is when a big group of players team up on one lone player, usually by surprise.
So a wing of 4 picking fights with 1 player

Griefing is the deliberate, indiscriminate and repeated harassment of other players - with generally little actual benefit to one's own character.
So blowing up newbies at the 1st engineers base

Technically a bully or bullies .
Don't get me wrong. It doesn't matter how I describe it, and it doesn't matter how you describe it. The main thing is that it should be described in the game by the developers. And if there is no such description, then it is not in the game.

I remember when I started playing in 2015 I started playing straight into the open game, I couldn't even imagine that open, pg, single player is the same account.

plenty of other games have similar.

for instance the Division has a PvP area which you can go into and out of at will and you take all of your gear into it which could have been earned either in the PvP area or out of it.

am sure there are better examples as well however to be honest I rarely play games with PvP in full stop

In the same division and similar ones there is no choice at the beginning of the entrance, if in Elite there would be that some systems PvP and others PvE it would be similar to Division.

? I assume you switched back to talking about Elite as '76 never had modes.
If you want a taste of how the PvP/PvE balance in '76 developed you're probably best looking up some of Lorespade's vids.

I think the important word here is - evolved. What changes have been made in the balance of PvP in Elite in 10 years?

Elite started with modes, '76 started with nothing.
The block function has become more powerful overtime in Elite.
'76 block function wasn't worth bothering with when I was playing, it only lasted a single session.
Beyond that you're probably best asking a PvPer.

What are lockout features?

Judging from my recent experience, open-only PP will probably do only one thing: bring more people into Horizons mode. That thing is as empty as Legacy for most of it. I think most people don't realize that there are 2 "open" in the live game, and that you are not cross-instancing there. See somebody nasty in open that you can't block away? Just start Horizons, fly past, start Odyssey again. Or should we now talk open-only Odyssey-only as well?

I was told PP2 is an add-on for Odyssey, i.e. PP2 is not in Horizons.

You don't have to take what others tell you at face value, in this case you can simply test it on your own: start in Horizons mode and see for yourself that your CMDR can do the ship-based PP2 activities just fine. But lo and behold, if you go into open mode there, you will not see as much people. Almost nobody.
