I play in open and rarely see anyone.

Leave the people who want to play alone, alone.

The game could do with dealing with the people who play in open then switch to solo to avoid all consequences though.
Basically notoriety >4, open only.
PowerPlay should also be open only once pledged.

But the rest? Nah. Leave the poor guys alone!

Open only just would not work in the way the OP intends.

Suppose the game was open only and I didn't want to see anyone. All I'd have to do when I see a player is menu log, block them and go back in game. There we are, just made the game solo again.

I played in Open when I first started (on XB when ED was 1st game in Games Preview Program - got the decal too). Looking back - after playing mostly in PG with friends for over a year - I don't recall there being anything special about playing in Open and it didn't add anything to my game. I'm glad others find more to it than I do.

EDIT: OP, have you joined any of the XBox Clubs for Elite Dangerous or a Squadron. I see players recruiting all the time. Did you grief all your friends so much they don't play with you anymore?

Lestat is talking about the fact that I pay £50 a year on PS4 to play in open. Solo players do not have to pay anything. If the game was open only, all console players would have to pay as it becomes online multiplayer.

Here the thing is not about me. It about Xbox users and Sony users. They are on the Pay to play config. If they are not paying for Xbox or Sony Pay to play. They can't play in Open. We really have to look at the little guys who like Velixar who opposed to the Open Only power play topic and who can't afford to pay the $120 for online use.

So Samurai83ITA maybe look at all the player instead of your self.

Now for my self. I running 3 accounts. Doing Different things. One Exploration one Trading and One combat. Some times open or not. But for me it a choice.

I already pay for online, all xbox and ps4 gamers pay this for playing anything online. PC gamers are lucky. But the fact to tell people to “pay to play” don’t exist, because they already pay. They know that when they bought a xbox or ps4. If they want to play online games, they need to pay. And i’m Not sure that if I don’t pay I can still play solo mode.

Xbox has Gold and Silver memberships. Silver is the default if you don't pay the monthly fee for Gold to the Empire (aka, Microsoft).

I would not have backed the game if it had been Open only.

Thankfully the three game modes sharing the single galaxy state has formed part of the game design since it was published over six years ago.

I have never once bought a Multiplayer game when I game I want to get lost in the game. If I want friends I get some wood start a fire put beer on ice and cook meat on the grill people will come

See that the thing Velixar does not play in open due to financial reason he can't pay for it. The money better spent on feeding his kids or school clothes. One post he asks people who wanted Open only Power play. Do you want to pay for him to play in open I think it would be a good idea to ask you the same? Do you want to Pay for him or others so they can play Elite Dangerous Open only?

Players without premium platform access on consoles can still play the game, Solo only.

You know Lestat Right about my posts. If Elite went to Open only. All I could do is quit Elite Dangerous. Which is a game I love to play. Because if it Food on my Table or Pay to Play. I always have to pick Food for my Table.
