Open Play - Ship Balance

the krait and the python have a greater mass lock factor than an FDL. you don't need to be engineered to build a ship tough enough to survive the short time it takes to jump out. none at all.
Did I ever say I struggle to escape or to build a ship that can escape? You fail to understand the purpose of this topic. Please, read this part again:
the gap between non-meta ship and meta ship is so huge, that the only option you ever had is to run. I dont like that. I want a chance to fight back.

Not "fight back long enough to escape", but "fight back and win" then, against any that might attack you in open ?

Then you'll need a ship competitive in DPS, hull and shields, which means engineering, as many have detailed above.

But even then you may still have to run, when attacked 2-1, 3-1 or simply facing a build that plays into your weak points...

Edit, there's no shame in "running" in ED, no matter what you fly there is always something that can kill you :)

So here's the problem - shield tank is superior, and there are no other medium ships that are close to FDL in terms of shield amount and maneuverability.

That's probably true, that's I suspect why many in open "gravitate" to the large ships, Corvettes etc. they seem to be the most popular ship around...

FDLs are actually not that common in casual open play, rather rare, that might be the "drawbacks" mentioned above.

Think about it -

there you are in G5 FDL, no cargo space, no SRV, no panoramic views of the Galaxy, you're made to fight, you want to fight,

but the moment your hollow square appears on screen everyone and their dog disappears over the horizon...

Must be a frustrating life ;)

So if there would be, what would you technically gain? You're asking for an FDL that doesn't look like an FDL?

Hello!

Dear Frontier Development Team, please take a look at current state of open play PvP encounters.

Regular (non-meta) ships are unable to do any considerable damage to min-maxed meta ships, or survive long enough to escape.

That kills any joy of playing in Open Play. If you got interdicted by Fer-de-Lance or Mamba, you are dead, because they got massive amount of shields, superior firepower and speed. Those ships are able to kill any ship except another meta Fer-de-Lance or Mamba in less than 10 seconds.

Please, do something about that.
don't cry.... it's christmas

I don't understand what's so controversial about this. I also don't understand how someone can misfire so disastrously that they'd explain to someone, who's asking for a fair chance at combat, how to escape and avoid interdictions...

Some people take pride in snaking and cheating their way through certain circumstances, for example through solo and blocking, because their system, to them, was a creative and 'intelligent' development. Yet, how is it not extremely embarrassing for them to project that onto someone who wants a chance to fight back? Does it insult them so much, to conceive that their ways of cowardice are not preferred by all, that they have to make this incredible leap to pretend you are like them? That you too, just need help learning how to escape? woooowy wowy wow wow wowy wow

I think you present a good justification here for wanting to be able to play the game in a certain way. I kind of expected to be playing this way when I bought the game just after launch, but SCBs had already been introduced & the hitpoint inflation vs utility dilemma started there I think.

The crux is in his last line.
I'm saying that the gap between non-meta ship and meta ship is so huge, that the only option you ever had is to run. I dont like that. I want a chance to fight back.

Op want to fight in trading vessels, and wants a slight balance for that.

You can kit out any trading ship with all the goodies, but it will become a combat ship. He can survive in a trading vessel, but then he needs to be able to survive as long as a drive needs to charge. He doesn't want to run in a trading ship, but take on combat ships with it. He can't, not even in a Cutter with C6 pizzy and 7 boosters.

I hope it stays this way.

So do you think having 1.5 viable combat ships (with 2 viable weapon choices) in the whole game is good gameplay?
