Open play trolls

Anyone else enjoying the irony that after the comment how rude PvEers are, people are gleefully slagging off PvEers? No one?

Well, I am :)

*struts and craps all over the chessboard*

If I wanted serious combat I'd go play a serious combat simulator, because ED certainly ain't that.

What's the alternative...I'll sort of agree...BYT
If I want to enjoy WW2 Combat I'll play Il2 BoS/BoM
If i want to enjoy Modern Combat I'll Play DCS
Not done it for a while buth there always was Rise of Flight if I wanted to be the Rad Barron...
Now where's the same for Space Combat????

I've not asked for evidence for "any point made" LOL just those two LOL

And I am likewise asking you for evidence, and for just one point. That's half the effort you asked of Hellakiity!

So you do have the evidence right? You surely wouldn't make a point without it being concrete?

There isn't one.

But that doesn't mean that ED has to be shoehorned into 'serious space combat sim' just because it's the only one out there. It's an arcade-style shooter at best, albeit with some nuanced and surprisingly deep mechanics that lie behind the ever-changing landscape that is the meta-game.

Exclusively doing PvE combat makes you lazy, you forget the need for situational awareness, you forget the need for pip management. You also get forgiven for making basic errors in your flying technique.

The solution for that ISN'T give up playing Elite Dangerous..and play an unrealistic subset of it where almost identical ships have 1 vs 1 duels in a tiny subset of systems within the Bubble...

Its give the AI FAR MORE teeth...and co-operative tactics

Ship down, you'll have much more fun in a Cobra!

(I'm not joking)

I actually disliked playing small ships i do not like it at all. Ever since i got my hands on the big 3 i have only used those exclusively. (tried chieftain and T-10 did nto like those either)

For me using big ships is fun (just dont like the economy and the rebuy cost currently i would have more fun if i could afford to have 2-3 of each of the big 3 and have specific loadouts for different jobs)

All of this whinging about open play is funny. I can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't see many people playing the bad guy at the CG this weekend.

In fact, I only saw one other guy doing it who wasn't also flying with me.

The really funny thing about it? That guy was in one of the groups who usually play cops at the CG.

Guess he got bored.

I interdicted his conda in my clean shieldless sidey, and did my part to contribute to his bounty.

On that note, the bounties are a little on the ridiculous side right now, and are probably keeping all but the "worst" of us from doing our thing.

My Vulture currently has about a 20 million credit bounty, and it's only going to get bigger, because I'm not going to stick around until I die.

Which also means I'm not going to stick around to fight with the "cops" when I have a large bounty.

If the CG "cops" are getting bored because they have nobody to fight, maybe the C&P needs to be dialed back a little.

On the flip side, I flew around in a shieldless sidewinder for a couple hours at the CG and wasn't interdicted once.

So I expect it's just Shangri-La for the pacifist types.

You offer an interesting perspective on the effect of the new C&P. It may be that this 'middle tier' PvP crowd are still re-engineering their ships, but if it is working as a dis-incentive to play the baddie (but currently goes too far) this is good news if accurate. Getting that balance right is important, and Sandro did say he'd be looking at how it goes in live & tweaking it, but the basic idea that there is now a fairly effective deterrent to excessive ganking is a big step in the right direction imo.

I think that for the more experienced player like yourself it's not too much of a surprise that you are able to work around it (by your description just by knowing how to escape), I think this is okay for now because it doesn't seem to have made the game worse for you, just not necessarily any better yet.

Cops & robbers switching sides is good too in my book, to help maintain a bit of balance, makes it more fun for everyone.

Jeez, it's pretend spaceships made out pixels on a screen.

So what if you get shot down for no other reason than amusement? It's a video game, happens.

You either run away crying to mummy about it, or just take the hit and carry on doing what you were doing.

Of course it's a game. Taking things serious about it is a general problem in the gaming community (just look at this forum...).
But it's perfectly understandable that people are frustrated about others who do things in game with the simple intention of disrupting them having fun. It's like the schoolyard bully who takes away the ball of younger students while they are trying to play soccer or something. I am pretty sure many of those gankers just enjoy to be the stronger one in the game (the schoolyard bully in the example above probably has a pretty bad live and parents who like to bully him).

I don't have any respect for gankers and the like. It's a virtual environment, so I can't say much about them as persons, but their intentions in the game are infantile rubbish.

Also, why the provocation line about crying and running to mummy? You like drama? :D

I always said that what happens in OPEN happens in OPEN. What happens in any mode happens.

Players are cheesing mechanics of the same in so many different ways. From station exploiting killing players with zero counter, or just milking some funky RNG from the mechanics of the procedural generating mission / economy.

The problem is, and I called it from the beginning of time, is that folks in ED, (interestingly) are way too wrapped up in what other people are doing, that what they're doing. If everyone concentrated on themselves, everyone would have a great time!

Perhaps just a symptom of this hybrid MMO model. You'll never please everyone at the same time. Ever.

The AI are tailored to the average player, if you want a PVE challenge you need to access the manual difficulty slider in the shipyard and outfitting or take wing missions solo.

That's been done before.

The forum owners had to get the contractors in with marine-grade water pumps for the tears.

The AI have been given small fangs in 3.0, and still that's too much for some. People just want to go seal-clubbing on the NPC's, simple as that.

Less than an hour in open play and killed twice by trolls for no reason, no bounty.

While doing the community goal at that. Seriously what do you gain by ruining open. Play experience for new players

Frontier can help solve the "killing for no reason" problem by making destroyed commander's ships drop 1% of that commander's materials, so that PvP kills pay a reward.

I was referring to her avatar.
Speaking of avatars, you look mighty handsome today!
Just as its gitting gud, I have to "quietly evaporate" back to work. Damn you, real life!
Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in this history of mankind.

Mankind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests.

Perhaps its fate that today Monday, and you will once again be working for some money.

We're fighting for our right to live, to exist. And should we win the day, the 12th of March will no longer be known as just another day, but as the day when the world declared in one voice:

Jason will not quietly evaporate back to work!

It's just shameful.

I mean, did they ever ask the NPCs for consent for being shot at?
