There comes a point where abusive comm's really should be reported I feel.. "kys" and racist stuff can have implications that shouldn't be ignored, and perhaps reporting may make a person think before they type in future.. most stuff is inane and generally laughable.
I'm not defending any kind of in-game abuse and I don't think we should foster a culture where it's just ' a fact of life'. We need to do what we can to stop it. I have gamer friends who are women who literally never enter game chat because of the rubbish they have to put up with.
Back to Elite, it's worth noting that there is a large number of players who shoot down other players in Elite for EXACTLY this kind of over the top reaction. Personally I tend to automatically deduct 10 IQ points from anyone who uses the expression 'salt farming' (I know, I know ... technically I just deducted some from myself...) but they are out there and these guys who go full on 'Dorito-breath-rage' when their Noobyconda goes boom are giving them exactly what they want.
For those same 'salt farmers' to then put their hand to their head with this 'Oh the humanity!' stuff is a bit rich.
Apex predator is a predator that can't be killed except by another at that same rank. While your tally is impressive, kill count has nothing to do with being Apex. The male lion is technically an apex predator, yet the females have the highest kill count and do the vast majority of the killing, with the males only chiming in on especially large prey.
imo we've yet to see who the real Apex predator is because we don't have adequate PVP mechanics in the game to get enough people involved to have a legit sample size.
Afaik the only CMDR to solo a Medusa is Gluttony Fang. So for all we know, he might be the apex predator?

I just told you yesterday none of that stuff was cool. Other PVPers in this thread are tired of being harassed out of game because of it.
Want a source? Go search griefer and ganker like I told you to do yesterday. Look at how many comments are there that stay up calling PVPers names. And if a PVPer retaliates in anyway. They get the infractions instead. There are some other things I wont go into as they have been handled. And I dont want to open other cans of worms that has happened here on these forums.
I am talking to forums users like YOU. That just went out of their way to justify toxic behavior by saying things like "maybe you should be nice to people in the game and those things wont happen".

What PVPers are saying on these forums is 100% true. And then they get comments back like "you like playing the victim dont you".
People have the same abilities as everyone else in this game. Everyone chooses to pick open knowing what could happen out there. Everyone has the ability to engineer their ships and do all sorts of things to defend themselves. But ya'll dont.

There was only maybe 12 people that went looking for them, my group had 8. And we were cycling instances to find them. Want a source for that? I streamed it, its on my youtube, we finally met up with them at meene. Greatest PVP experience in a game in my life.
At the end of it, I was wondering where the good guys were. Come to find out, there wasnt any. Everyone was white knighting here. Throwing insults at each other.

Must say if you were in the process of trying to attack me while I’m conducting my lawful, or in fact illegal pursuits (mind that crate of onion head) I would want to call you every name under the sun and wouldn’t like you character much from there onwards.
On forums or outside of game though, win lose or draw I’d have nothing against you personally and would feel no need to insult you. Might even have a laugh about it and buy you a pint.
I can understand why people seek and enjoy PvP while not wanting to myself.
Problem is that many can’t see the line between in game and out, both on those being attacked and those attacking. Experience has shown me the attackers are more balanced on this issue but there are those at fault on both sides.
Meanwhile for those I don’t like in game, keep in mind RP and playing the game you like works both ways. For those people I don’t like in RL, well I don’t know if you play or your CMDRs name so not an issue for here.

When I was younger and played another PvP-based spaceships MMO, I used to find silly things like name-calling pretty amusing, and I still do to a degree, as long as it's within the context of the game. But when it gets nasty, like getting personal about my gender, doxxing and threatening my RL person and family, then that's when I've reported things, and not just to the developer.
Fortunately, name-calling is all I've ever received in Elite Dangerous and even then it's rare. But the nasty stuff is truly toxic and needs stamping out of gaming culture.

Nah that's exactly how it works. Most people are playing the game to have fun, not to flex pixel-muscles and prove their manhood.
They probably have other things to do with their lives and wanted to play a game to have fun.
I just want to make absolutely clear that there a few PVP posters on this board who I look forward to reading and consistently contribute positively to discussions, some like True Silver (sp?) have literally changed Elite for me. I've felt driven to private message Phisto on a couple of occasions based on how well I felt he was representing the PVP crowd - sometimes against people who were being really aggressive towards him. In this very thread, Jason Barron just had the most ridiculous passive aggressive snipe made in reply to one of his sensible posts. I'm open-only myself and have some strong feelings about private group and solo etc but let's not go there.
I am not including those guys in the 'salt-farming' subset of PVP players I mentioned in my previous post. They've managed to stay polite and reasonable on this forum in the face of some ridiculous comments directed to them and deserve credit for it.
I'm really talking about players who are 'bragging' about the hate mail they get. The stream snipers, the noob-killers and the guys that bait Fuel Rats to put hours of time into being a cheap gag. Those guys can't then come on here and complain about a heat of the moment post in my opinion. Report it, absolutely (though xbox live for example does take context into account on these things) but not come on here and bemoan how you're not being treated civilly in-game. If your objective is to make someone angry (again, I want to make clear that I know it's not for a lot of PVPers) then you shouldn't really be complaining if you're successful.

The rules are easy to follow.
Salt gathering works in both directions, certain sub-types can dish it out but not take it. Which is why people do it.

But Elite isn't really much of a Role Play Game.. it's more of an action game (or inaction game, depending on what you're actually doing).

Responded to the thread. I like the basics, but it needs a little more consequences and a sense of progression. Maybe some bigger picture strategic outcomes for example. You mentioned Wars, but currently wars are all PVE. If there was a dynamic way to create a PVP war via the BGS, then maybe this would be a good start towards creating something meaningul with outcomes. PVE inputs leading to PVP outputs.
