General Open: Why you should play or not play.

Open play is the Mode in Eite Dangerous that allows players the greatest degree of agency.

This mode is the one with no restrictions on player activity. People are able to fire shots at, or defend players or even coopoerate with players depending on how they veiw the situation.

DO NOT join this mode if you don't want direct competition with other players. In the minds of most, if you join Open, you have willfully ticked the "I'm ok without handholding" box. That means outside of the space police, there is nothing else to help you when it comes to direct contact with hostile players other than your wits.

The reason I feel I had to make this post is that there are a certain group of players who do not seem to understand that this mode might not be for them and as a result have become far to vocal regarding the state of it. Seemingly mostly through personal beefs these same voices are arguing to remove player agency from the one mode that still has it.

It's a simple choice. There are two modes, one of which is like a mock open when done right, that cater to your desires. If you choose to ignore this infomation, that is clearly labelled by the developers as to make the choice crystal clear, and yet still advocate for removal of players choices, I feel as though you are playing the wrong game as do many of the players you are targeting with your arguments.

Gankers or not, Open is for everyone to play the game in the way they so desire, together. If you chose to join this mode, get killed and complain about griefers, (This is going to be super blunt because I'm not good at sugar coating things) You're cutting your nose off despite your face and then expecting people to feel sorry for you. That is why the majority of ideas that try to limit open are met with nothing but ridicule and mockery by the playerbase that inhabits it.

Sure the C&P could work for both sides a little better and there could be more persistence, not to mention a clearer label on wha this mode entails. But at the end of the day, it is widely known and freedom of choice in this mode should not be restricted due to a small group of players who chose to ignore the writing on the mode choice menu.

This is supposed to be educational incase some newer players are unsure of the deal. If you join Open, you might get killed, you might also do the killing your choice. Choice is the operative word here, because when people advocate to remove that when they already have things that suit them, it is vindictive. Far more vindictive in my mind than getting your pixel spaceship blown up. Sorry, there I go being blunt again.

To summarise, in Open we WANT you to come and play, we WANT players in a living and breathing galaxy. You're gonna die, you're gonna get killed, sure, but Open is for EVERYONE and we all go through the same experiences, we all die, we all make stupid mistakes, but at least in Open we are all doing it together an without restriction. Join it at your own peril but I assure you there is more in the way of fun content and more to enjoy and learn from simply because it allows you your choice. If you're not into that, thats fine, most won't judge you for it. But when you judge us for using the mode, is its not us who is playing the wrong game, or causing problems for the game. Think that through.

o7 cmdrs, I hope to see you in the black be it friend or foe.

hey, no pun to neither of you!
it's just ... 'come to play in open' threads are a forum classic.

i totally get it. it doesn't work. you'll get it.

oh and inb4 voracity_T being accused of being a psychopathic griefer out of targets trying to lure victims to open! classics need to be classics! :ROFLMAO:

Not as much a come play in open post as a stay out of open if youre going to squall and squeal about taking choice away from the players who are in that mode.

Ahaha, it's highly plausible xD

Gotta say that did make me chuckle.

i'm mostly solo these days. i do like multiplayer but got ed when fitting out a viable ship became an exercise in farm simulation. it's not just the 'collecting', the sheer artificial complexity puts me off. i'm too old for that. before engies it wasn't perfect but it was straightforward: choose modules and weapons and go rock it. for me nothing that engineers added improved in any way the fun that could be had before, not even the sacred dirty thrusters, it just wrapped all of it into a big hassle, imo it spoilt the fun plain and simply. other than that, i much prefer jumps taking 15 secs than 25 to 45.

however, i'm always up for a duel or anything dirty on request.

not that it matters because you are on ps anyway, i guess scarcest of the scarce. :/

re whining posts and accusations ... well, the game is deliberately (i think) ambiguous in the offering. other games give you distinct gates, pve or pvp, everybody happy. frontier blurred the distinction with their 'one size fits all' cult, it's just natural some people gets wrong expectations.

See this is the kind of well thought out response that many people shoul take note of.

I get that, I really do, the engineering grind is a trudge, theres no getting away from that. Granted it's easier now than it has ever been, (I remember the 1k mat limit.. Ewww) but still nowhere near reasonable a time sink for most people. That is definatly a viable reason above most others to not want to bother with it.
Worst part is it never seems to end. Stuff always needs improving on and counters are always changing which in turn can definatly sap some the enjoyment out of the experience.

Hopefully not much longer. Given that the new consoles will likely cost upto 500 knackers I think I'll probably save my pennies and move to Pc. Makes a lot more sense in the grand scheme of things so you never know, might see you out there aye.

Certainly is, but given that there are two PvE specific modes it does seems a little nasty for people to try to sterilize the one that isnt strictly PvE. Ambigous or not, the writing is on the menus. FDev wanted to include everyone, sure, but it is the players whose fault it is that they do not read the infomation provided. You can lead a horse to water so to speak.

You can lead a horse to water so to speak.

well, i'm slowly getting there. i don't like hauling so open would be mostly combat for me anyway. i would say my viper is nearly 100% complete. :ROFLMAO:

i understand consoles are a thing, but for this game specifically i would very much recommend pc just for the accessories, they can make a huge difference.

regarding the horses, dead or alive ... although they may have contributed to changes that have had impact on the whole game, i don't really see frontier putting fences on open anytime soon, it is indeed the only place where the advertised full multiplayer experience is possible (barring technical limitations). not just because that's just a requirement in their formula but because it would rise a lot of other voices.

Ha, can't go wrong there then, thats THE open play ship. (It's not but i'll lie to you and myself about that.)

Yeah its the perfomance aswell, quite frankly its abysmal on Ps4 right now. More than two people in the Haz and frames start to dip, more than 4 and youre sitting at about 10fps.
In all honesty though, the one good thing about consoles is that there is very little in the way of variation in inputs. It's a much more level playing field it must be said.

No I would agree with that. It's also the most popular mode according to FDev and it would be asinine to target that aspect. Technical limitations hopefully get seen too this year because that is defiantly part of the reason that some folks don't play in open. Yeah it absolutley would, the playerbase is actually HUGE and I feel as though there would be quite the surprise at the number of people it would irritate if open started getting PvP flags or some such archaic concept.

:unsure::ROFLMAO:

fdl is halfway there, currently dressed for thargs.
and i dusted off my beloved vulture the other day, not used in ages ... i almost cried! still at a staggering 0% 🤦‍♂️

No I would agree with that.

so then there's nothing to worry about! let them moan and learn, or moan and not learn, but it's still a recurrent source of forum pvp.

The reason I feel I had to make this post is that there are a certain group of players who do not seem to understand that this mode might not be for them

Don't try and tell me and other people what mode we should be playing in, that's up to us to decide and really none of your business.
