Hey CMDRs,
I've been running Palin missions at Obsidian orbital and enjoy the challenge and decent reward, however they feel clunky. Thought I'd throw suggestions out to see what others think.
- Create follow-on missions rather than having to jump out and re-dock to get next assignment.
- Make this an alternate "in" to Palins research lab and CP rack outfitting. I've completed countless missions and would think it would be in his best interest to offer corrosion-proof cargo racks to reliable couriers.
I'm enjoying the challenge of transporting the goods without CP racks but it feels dumb that I'm still treated as a hostile at Palins Lab after so many deliveries.
Thoughts?

Simplest solution would be to to remove Obsidian Orbital as a possible delivery destination.

That way you'd deliver to somewhere else and then fly back to OO for a new mission without having to re-dock.

I actually built a dedicated Federal Dropship with three 1F corrosive resistant racks to do these missions (though I think the FAS could be an even better ship for this). I have almost paid off the $400MCr I spent on my type-10.

I strongly suspect they will be nerfed at some point like the Ram Tah missions were. However, I don’t think removing the Palin unlock requirement to get the racks is necessary. That would just make these very high paying missions to easy for new commanders to get into too soon. As it is these missions are very high paying but you have to make significant progress in the game to do them easily so I think that works out.

Payouts aside I’d still like to see more engineer missions like this just for variety. Every engineer should have some missions you can do for them with various rewards.

I agree with what you've said there, Sure it is just a simple fetch quest when you've gotten the corrosion resistant cargo racks onboard, but as you say it is quite a grind to get to them, martuuk-->G3-->allied to sirius-->quent-->G3--5000LY from start plus the smashed up remains of 9 or more thargoid probes--> then he lets you in to buy his cargo racks. So it makes sense that having put in all that work you get some advantage out of his access, and lets not kid ourselves, UA bombing stations and doing these missions is all these special cargo racks are useful for. So to me at least it makes perfect sense that there are missions like this from pailin. I'd suggest there also be missions like this for AEGIS.

Engineers missions have been something that has been requested since the earliest days of 2.1, I don't see why Ram Tah, Elvira Martuuk and Felicity Farseer wouldn't want thargoid/guardian/soonthil stuff to aid their research. From the lore in premonition we know that "Buffalo" Bill Turner (mining painite why ho why you evil sod) wanted meta alloys to continue his metadrive research, surely he needs more, hello mission opportunity. Take a mission from turner for meta alloys, only available in the pleiades, add mission / alien cargo associated increased likelihood of hyperdiction and consequent thargoid combat and you've got a balanced challenging and rewarding activity.

Yeah this seems like an easy win for FD to add more variety to the game. Let’s hope this is something that is coming in Beyond!

Well they have previewed weapons seemingly based on guardians technology (one looked like a laser built around an "ancient artefact") so there is a plot junction that would lend itself nicely to this concept. And as if one beardtard suggestion wasn't enough per thread, they could have similar missions between engineers, for example take highly volatile and extremely valuable weaponised guardian artefacts from Ram Tah's place of business to one of the weapons engineers, que inra and thargoid greifing.

The Palin missions are perfect. They require no adjustments as far as I'm concerned. Eventually I suspect FD will nerf them like everything else that provides a lucrative and reliable source of income but until then they are my primary credit earning method.

Im actually ok with the payouts being nerfed. Its not the money that's the issue for me.

Creating narrative and progression (beyond just increased cred balance) is what I feel is lacking here. Some genuine NPC interaction and recognition would be a lot more immersive.

And I'm not suggesting it be easy either. Sending more pirates after you or even increased chance of thargoid hyperdiction would be exciting and break the monotony. Add the reward of CR racks after a large number of completed deliveries and this would be a brilliant MISSION (not exploit if FD designed it intentionally this way).

Yes, this should happen, it would make the mission flow better and would make sense. I was going to make this suggestion but after suggesting that the rescue missions could be made better so that they actually flow like rescue missions I had to get my asbestos suit refitted and it's not back from the repair facility yet...

- Make this an alternate "in" to Palins research lab and CP rack outfitting.

They should be available where ever AX weapons are sold. There is no reason for them to be hidden behind the grind wall that is Palin. That being said, you can complete these missions without the racks, it's just a bit more painful and you might loose your canopy... Funny thing is I took my new commander out there last night to get some quick money and actually flew to the wreck site without flying coordinates, just from memory!

1) As i said, the simplest solution would simply be to make the delivery point anywhere other than OO. That way you'd always just return to OO for another mission. No re-docking required.

2) I deliberately shipped my starter sidey out to Alcazar's Hope and ran a few of Palin's missions with it with absolutely no problems.
The only potential "issue" is that if you attract outlaws you can't really afford to waste time on them in a ship with no CR racks.

I'm using a purpose built Cobra IV fitted with 6 2T Anti-corrosive racks, don't even need to deploy the SRV just scoop the containers directly from the surface, filling with 4 of each type means I sometimes just need a re-dock with no need to re-visit the Crashed Scout Ship . [yesnod]

But then again I sometimes have to re-dock to get a mission to generate at all. [blah]

I agree, but follow on or chain type missions are in the game and it would make sense to use them here. Either way, it would make the missions a bit less like an exploit and more like playing the game. Except that you need to relog/jump out at the crash site often to get enough stuff to complete the mission.

This is my biggest grip with the game, it forces you to menu log or re-instance the game to complete missions. That just isn't a good idea.

B.T.W. - does anyone know where we can sell the Thargoid - Technology/Bio-Waste/Resin, for anything approaching the quoted 'Galactic Average' ?

I wondered about that too.

I actually took 1t of each out to Colonia, just to see what would happen.
Nope, similar prices to everywhere else.

Thing is, for the average price to be what it is, you'd think there must be somewhere else it sells for megabucks - or, alternatively, a lot of somewhere-elses that it sells for a very good price.

Maybe the best prices are to be found in the Thargoid home systems (or Guardian systems) but they're still permit-locked? [where is it]

Ideally, it would be nice if the missions required you to actually scoot around different Thargoid bases to collect stuff, rather than just farming the scout-ship crash-site.

I guess the other problem, there, is that the size of Palin's CR racks kind of limits the scope of these missions.

Personally, I think it'd be cool if FDev could come up with some kind of "contract" missions as well as one-off missions.
You might take on a "contract" to destroy 50 pirate ships per week.
Or, maybe, to deliver 5,000t of some commodity to a station within a week.
Or mine 1,000t of ore.
Or collect 50 Thargoid items.
Etc.

Seems like this could be implemented in the same way that engineer unlocks are - you can do those a bit at a time.
Trouble is, as long as menu-logging is still useful, that's not going to work with tasks that require you to collect stuff that's lying around. [sad]

Nah, they'd have em on special offer.....I bet there's some out of the way as yet unvisited station somewhere that only the Devs know of that they go to sell em for a googleplex of credits so they don't have to grind out credits.

Yes, this is a great idea... It would also be awesome for wing/squadron missions.

and what's going on with obsidian orbital , station interior changes from solo to group

this is solo

and this is group or private ?
