Panther Clipper Mk II Update | Available Now

Not good:
  • Jump range with full cargo bay, though still manageable (21 ly with a 7A SCO FSD, Long range G5 & Mass manager)
  • View outside from pilot’s seat, especially in the vertical plane (I enjoy space views and want to see the planet/moon I am approaching for landing)
  • Forward vector is not in the middle of the HUD because the seat is too low and has no adjustments

It's a massive space barge, of course the range is low. Having said that, it's still more than you'd expect given the T9 and Cutter's ranges being similar with less cargo on board. I'm getting more than you are, but I dumped the guns and the shields and reduced the power plant and distro accordingly, plus I slapped an FSD booster in.

Again, it's a massive space barge, not an exploration or tourist boat, it's not built to admire the views.

I've not noticed that third point, so can't really comment.

I'm usually a huge fan and proponent of ditching the autodocking computer and doing it manually. However, in this case I think I'll sacrifice 2 tons of cargo space for the docking computer. It's so much more convenient. And in this particular case will probably make landing and launching a bit faster, even saving time.

The ship might not be exactly as big as the Cutter, but man, is it difficult get through the mail slot without scratching the paint.
I've long believed that the Planetary Approach Suite that all ships have a special slot for should be renamed to Autopilot and incorporate the functions of SC Assist and Advanced Auto Dock as well as everything it currently does.

It makes no sense that the ships of the future need 4T of space for some software to tell the ship computers how to fly and/or land by themselves.

Has anyone successfully installed a 5D or smaller shield on the Panther Clipper? I didn't want to waste a size 7 slot for a shield so removed the 7A and attempted to install an engineered 5D Shield but got the Hull Mass warning. I'm 30K ly from bubble so can't just go and buy a new one.

Not possible, the maximum hull mass for a size 5 is too low. You can put a size 6 on, but that's it.

I wouldn't be raising to the barricades if they did that. However, I think the current system is fine as it is.

(Btw, even if the docking computer "needs 2 tons of space", it in itself doesn't add any weight, so at least weightwise it's "free".)

Yeah, I more meant that it uses the slot that 2T of cargo should fit into.

The Planetary Approach Suite has its own slot they retrofitted to every ship when Odyssey came out, nothing else can fit in that slot. All they have to do is make a new Autopilot module that fits in that restricted slot and combines the functions of all three modules.

Actually that slot was added when Horizons came out but back there was only one module you could fit now we have the Advanced Planetary Approach suite as well for planets with a thin atmosphere.

Others obviously disagree but I think there is more than enough automation in the game already, so the idea of being outclassed and being made to feel more unnecessary by an autopilot doesn't appeal.

Horizons, yes. I was confusing the two versions of it. My mistake.

The autopilot is already there but split over three modules. My idea just puts it all into one module with its own dedicated slot so people don't have to sacrifice cargo space/other useful modules. The functions can still be turned on/off in the right panel when people don't want to use them for whatever reason.

It's a win-win with no downside.

I don't see it listed on EDSY when I use the link you provided.

Maybe a <CTRL> & R?

Thing is, when there's an NPC ship parked on top of the toast rack, the other NPC ships won't exit/enter because their AI thinks the ship on top of the toast rack is inside the slot. Everything just grinds to a halt and nothing moves.

If you're careful, you can push an NPC ship out through the slot and once it's past the ship on top of the rack it will fly away as normal. Otherwise, they all just sit there forever.

It's only happened in the past few months, not sure what causes it or how a ship gets stuck on the outside of the toast rack in the first place. An NPC ship has no reason to ever go there, so I assume it's some kind of misspawn and the presence of players constantly moving in/out of the station keeps the instance from being reset...
I sat outside a station watching them a few months back because it was all a bit confusing. They insta-magnetise to the toast rack on approach. Like a teleport.
