Panther LX

It can't get any bigger than a T-10 anyway. From what I can see its a more streamlined T-9 thats slightly longer, leading to me to guess its a faster T-9 that carries more than a Cutter at faster (than T-9) speeds (say 1.5X).
Unless they get fiddly with moving parts - which is always ok with me, I like those.

I think you're right though, assuming they keep the spiritual intent of the ship intact. The Krait Mk. II is barely recognizable - except in shape - to its original intent as a fighter-craft. They may very well build the Panther into something more than a vast cargo hauler. It certainly has the looks for a deep space explorer (in my opinion).

However it goes, new ships are always good.
Especially when the last ones came out...how long ago?

Hope we're not about to start a development cycle on ships similar to SRVs.

Panther LX due in 2027!

Well, I'm already unimpressed with the Panther. I want to get weird with it, let us pilot a thargoid ship
Seriously, a year long paper chase where we complete various objectives for Salvation, earning hybrid thargoid ship parts each time and assembling them into a new ship by Christmas, would be boss. Seems like just another obvious missed opportunity by Fdev.

ship sizes limited to landing pads is lameeeeeeeeeee. Why is it so hard to give us ships that dock inside other ships that we also can switch to and fly?

the panther should be much larger than the slot can fit ...and use shuttle ships to transport goods to and from or otherwise interact with stations and planetary surfaces (it doesn't have planetary approach suite).

Let's put the NPC crew to use. Are they worried about how to handle what happens if you undock ...what does the previous ship do? Glad you asked.

The NPC crew will either enter supercruise and de-instance from everyone, becoming a USS only the owner can see or wait until no longer associated with any instances if say the FSD is damaged ...and then de-instance and become a USS only the owner can see.

The owner then has to enter that USS to re-connect with their panther. During this de-instancing, we pretend that the panther has entered a hibernation state... ..waking back up when the owner re-instances.

If a panther is destroyed while the owner is in a shuttle or other ship, a rubuy mission will appear that the owner can take to re-purchase the ship with previous attributes - minus any docked ships or cargo.

Other players cannot dock at your panther. They can join as multi-crew, shuttled in by the owner. or telepresenced.

But no...we'll just get a slightly more cargo having T9. yay.

I agree yet...
Its been years... at this point I'd just go for a type 9 with more utility mounts and bigger cargo hold...
That or just a special fighter hangar that can launch a cobra sized slf

The Panther Clipper has, in the previous Elite games, been the largest ship to still be able to fit through the docking slot - if you want one that doesn’t fit then you’ll be after the Lynx Bulk Carrier (essentially a Panther sliced in half and six 1000t container units slapped in the middle).

I’d love to see some of the old space bog-brushes parked up around stations 👍

who cares about previous games though? why constrain yourself to the limitations of past technology and imagination? It's not like we have a bunch of alien races like in previous elite games. We dont have mis-jumps like in previous elite games. We dont have portals to other galaxies like in previous elite games. We can't fly thargoid ships like in previous games.

I think it's time to just stop caring about previous games, and re-imagine the elite universe in a way that fits the current game. A slightly bigger T9 serves no purpose. Flying something where docking requires all others ships to give you full use of the slot for however long you need it to wiggle thru sounds on paper as impractical as it will be in implementation. And if the cheaters have what will eventually be the final version of the panther...then we already know by adhering to that limitation has made it underwhelming and forgettable. It's only claim to being interesting is that it's the first new ship in a very long time.

is every day a waking hell due to how much elite dangerous retconned the previous games at their convenience? Do you lament the laundry list of changes?

fdev didn't have a problem going way beyond the previous games jump capabilities ...or altering the other stats to suit ED. In the old games the size of this ship was balanced by what the player was capable of doing with it. In ED, that balance exists differently. What you create by just making a slightly bigger T9 is something that is ultimately boring at best with nothing unique or role fulfilling about it, and just further damaging to the weak game economy at worst.

a ship who's only role is to make credits faster than the T9 doing exactly the same gameplay as a t9 is just plain stupid in terms of gameplay unless fdev feels that we dont make credits fast or easily enough in the game. Since apparently creating ships is an extremely expensive process that they can't just produce them willy nilly.

There should be something special about the kind of gameplay needed to make even more money in the game than is currently possible. Something different from the same exact grind loops you do in the existing ships. A larger, more expensive ship than any currently available is a perfect opportunity to implement such different and new gameplay. There's no reason why the panther shouldn't be that ship because the game really does not need a bigger T9.

I, for one, am holding out for the furry felines.

affinity for feline aliens. check
name oddly similar to creator of wing commander. check

is this a hint at WC6? Cuz it's taken ED like 7 years and we still haven't gotten an official look at thargoids - the only sentient aliens alive in the galaxy, so I dont see any other aliens ever coming to it. If it's a hint at WC6, wink twice. cuz WC6 would be cool.

Agree the large Bulk Cargo does not have the be the Panther or look like the Panther. Just a bulk cargo vessel. Let the design imagination go wild.
