Passenger exploration missions not / barely contributing to exploration rank?

I’m not sure I’d this is a bug or getting use to the new rewards. I’m 80% from exploration elite and wanted to finish it up running exploration-based passenger missions. Yesterday, I turned in about 20M worth of data and went up only 1%. That seems excessively low contribution. I don’t know if it was the stellar data or the reward that pushed it 1%.

In the new quest reward system, should the full cash contribute? Or do I need to select the increased rep or inf options?

I’m running another one now (10M payout to Hutton and a few others) and will see if the increased rep option makes any difference.

I find at Pioneer if I do, say, four sightseeing passenger missions in one trip my rank goes up about 4%, so 1% each. That includes beeping at stars but no more 'exploration' than that. Funnily enougg im at 80% so figure I've got five more runs to do to reach elite.

Thanks!

I may end up taking a long range mission soon. A nice 10-20k round trip might be enough to push it to elite. I’ll decide after this current run.

I only run 1 mission at a time; using a 55LY DBX with one compartment which is much quicker than my Python or even ‘Conda. Finding multiple missions near each other was always ‘fun’.

I could push trading instead with the new missions. I have all of Tycoon to go for that.

I assume you already know that the closer one gets to Elite status, the more is required. Basically, each step takes twice as much as the previous step to achieve. Thus, 20 million is great if your at harmless, but only a drop in the bucket if your appoaching elite. One must have the appropreate rep and inf, before being promoted but must also have earned an appropreate amount of cr's. Thus one can have an accumulated rep of say 200 when only 100 is needed, but if the appropreate cr's have not been met, one won't get the rank up to the next. IF one has say 200 percent rep and there's no way to know it until the promotion actuall take place, but if one does and turns in twice the required cr's, they will get a double promotion, basically, skipping over one and going directly to the next.

I did the road to richs which is often referred to as an exploit, but that's a different subject. At any rate. I was harmless when I started, After completing the RTR. I turned in all my data to one station and was promoted to Elite immediately. Though it may have helped somewhat, but in additon to doing the required scanning the RTR suggest, I scanned consideralbly more than the suggested list offered. My son did it also after I did, and though he was at compentent, and only did the minimum required scans, was promoted to Elite when he turned it in at a station. Thus the difference was I scanned consideralbly more valueable targets and received a considerably higher reward. His was 300 million, myne was just over 400. Thus I made more of a leap than he did, but then he was closer to start than I was.

Yes, I do realize that each pilot federation rank requires quite a bit more than the one before. Current guesses (not by me) is just about 200M from pioneer to elite. 10M would have been 5% if it all contributed. I think it is mostly the watering down of mission rewards and how they contribute to exploration rank.

I turned in my current mission. 7.5M and rank++++ (fed rank). Went from 20->22%. With the display always rounding to the nearest percent, it’s hard to get a good view from one data point. 7.5M straight up would have been almost 4%. If we assume I actually gained just over 1% and the display is rounding (20.49 -> 20%, 21.51 -> 22%), that would put it close to 1/4th exploration credit from mission rewards.

Totally forget passenger missions for Exploration ranking.Out fit your ship with as big a fuel tank as you can have, the best fuel scoop some heat sinks and a Field Maintainance Unit. The go to the Galacy map and make a trip about 7000 Ly away from your location. Before you do take a trip either upwards or downwards on the Galaxy map for about 300 Ly( this will help you off the well trodden paths)then go on your mammoth trip.Scan and explore ALL unexplored stuff(icy bodies not really worth scanning).I took 2 trips around 6 to 7000 ly which took me 2 weeks(i only play for an hour and a half a day),you can tell what kind of planets they are by their "noise".Go into the System map and select a planet and listen hard(best with a headset)you will find they have differenet noises for each type of planet.Even if somebody has already discovered all the stuff, you havent and it is worth doing.Eventually you will find totally unexplored Star Systems so you will get the bonus for discovering them on your return. Its a long slog but hay,you dont want the game to be too easy do you.
These vids might help.

Its an exponential increase, so yeah...
Its going to take a bit.

I recently made the last jump from around 80% to Elite after handing in the Ancient Ruins mission at Meene. BIG INCREASE. Huge.

@OP - is it possible you are confusing the value of your passenger mission with the payout from handing in exploration data? A mission payout does not necessarily contribute anything to your exploration rank. It is the value of the systems, stars and planetary bodies you discover and scan that contribute to your exploration rank. It would not matter how much you could get paid for the trip but only the NEW exploration data that YOU find , i.e. new data for YOUR interstellar cartographics library. If you have daydream made the trip you would, in effect get nothing new and no payout in exploration rank.

True, mission rewards count towards the various levels in regards to both Navy's Rankings. The exploration cr's depend on the worthness of the data collected based on which objects which have different values. I mean one can spend years scanning nothing but ice planets and not make squat.

Lngjohn, no confusion between the two. See post #7 where I mention my payout from a mission today increasing exploration rank. Similar effect with trading or passenger transport increasing trading rank.

It is just a lot less than I expected.

Doing it that way will take you forever. The ONLY way to rank up fast is by doing mammoth RExplortion trips.

Okie dokie - just checkin.

Yesterday I picked up a long range passenger mission for exactly this reason. It’s about 16k round trip. It will be interesting where I am after this trip.
