Passengers

So I've been playing this On and off for a while and have accrued only about 22 million, any tips on making more cash would be appreciated. That aside I've been looking at passenger missions and some of these missions are really far away with quite an unreasonable distance of over 22 thousand light years (or whatever it is!) How do they expect you to jump so far!

Think of those missions as something to do on the way while you're doing exploring, not as an efficient way of making money. Instead look at the local ones, e.g. the non-VIP missions (without the crown symbol) and stack as many as you can fit in, ideally to the same place.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.

Yup. Local passenger missions are still some of the best way to generate income. There are plenty to be had if you look around. Make sure you increase you reputation with some local factions, too, so that you can get access to all their available missions and passengers.

If you have a large or medium size ship (Beluga, Anaconda, Python) and find a good location where you can stack passengers going to the same spot, transport missions can be very lucrative indeed, even after the bulk-passenger nerf (I use a mixture of economy, first and business class cabins).

If you’re happy to take a slow and steady approach, sight-seeing trips are also fairly lucrative in a smaller ship with a decent jump range. I made my first billion between this and exploration data in my Asp – took about 4 months of relaxed play. Pick a couple of locations and work on your local rep. Your explorer rank also contributes. I’ve had sight-seeing missions that offer as much as 15 million for a 3 or 4 stop trip, which usually take about 30-40 minutes in my Asp.

I agree that the financial rewards for long-range trips are comparatively low, but they often take you to some great spots. I’ve had some of my most enjoyable sessions in Elite taking scientists to some far-flung, exotic location (once I've actually got there!). If you take the time to collect exploration data along the way the rewards are pretty good, but that’s almost besides the point. Discovering a few "firsts" is a nice bonus as well. Depends on what you enjoy of course.

Be allied with multiple factions
Have an AspX or a Dolphin fitted for maximum range
Engineer the FSD to whatever extent you can
Run sightseeing missions to average 10m/hour
DbEx works too, but you find the occasional mission you can't make in a class 4 cabin. Might still be worth it, given the DbEx's extra range.

Jump, honk, scan, scoop, repeat. There's no magic to it.
