Pawing at the Planetary Bell

Fuuuuuu-siiiooooon-HA!

Hahaha! I'm rather partial to Gaogaigar's 'Final Fusion!' myself. And how one of Lyrical Nanoha striker's girls has a similar enough transformation that she's been nicknamed 'Gaogaigar-tan'.

But we're getting rather off-topic there. Back to your regularily unscheduled chasing after shiny stars...

Haven't seen more than bits and pieces of either of those. >_>

Last decade has gotten me into the grittier/darker side of anime, with a fair amount of disappointment thanks to fanservice. >:I

Don't know how much I'll be playing today. Going to attempt to throw a guide together based on my experience and what I've learned from our fellow commanders during this trip.

I have found that I have generally gone the other direction in regards to the anime I watch. I used to love shows like Ghost in the Shell and Black Lagoon, but now I'm going more twoards the action-adventure genre as well as light hearted stuff. (Though in regards to fanservice I agree, unless we're talking about attention to technical detail like the interior of tanks.)

I've also taken your advice in regards to bounty hunting. A day of moderate play and I've almost made back the cost of the Viper I bought and upgraded. In about a week I should be able to properly outfit a Daimondback Scout for the task of exploring the black beyond civilized space.

Your guide would be greatly appreciated.

Will take me a few days to throw together between work and other priorities, but I've created a handful of graphics for it already. Here's a peak!

I play on a 24in monitor so I have no idea what this is going to look like for everyone who plays on a smaller one.

Ah, that's better.

The graphic looks nice and appropriate.

If you can make it like a standard PDF or a (dear please heaven no) PowerPoint presentation it should be able to do well on everyone's monitor is my thinking.

I'd say best advice would be for things we aren't going to be accustomed to while working in civilized space, like jumping near a black hole or into the middle of a binary system.

It'll be pretty comprehensive. Here are the sections I have planned:

1. The Facts About Exploration
2. The Wayfarer's Wardrobe
3. First Encounters
4. Fuel Scooping
5. Astronomical Objects
6. Asteroid Rings and Belts
7. Frequented Locations
8. Uncommon Interests
9. Screenshots, Videos and Streaming
10. References and Support

Aaand that graphic looks way bigger than I thought. I'll tone them down a bit. A PDF would be ideal but I've never created one before and I'd like to keep it available on the forum as opposed to a link or download. (unless you can embed PDFs).

In other news, hopped around a bit. Found another Black Hole which I recorded entry of. Will upload to YT tomorrow. Did some guide item recording. Found a TFC Water World and a Non TFC Water World orbiting a Red Class L Dwarf. Also broke the record for largest Class II Gas Giant. Fairly good haul for ~1.5kly.

Nothing to report tonight. Only managed less than 1kly due to working on another PC and taking a ton of screenshots for the guide. Might have found a couple record breakers though.

More bright spots today. Nothing too great. Couple of TFC WWs in a binary orbit abour 60ls from their parent star. Came across a few class L dwarf systems and herbig ae/be stars with unfirm-color planets that had some actual varients.

I also found a very sickly looking High Metal Content planet... Never seen an atmosphere look like this before.

It's almost as if there were holes or tears in the atmosphere or something. Planet didn't look as strange as the thumbnail though...

Then there was this cheese ball. A No-atmosphere planet with some rather large mass-extinction event impacts.

Yes. It is a terraforming candidate...

You still stream at all Kate?

I do. A little less now since I use NVidia's Shadowplay to link to Twitch. I'm putting together a guide and I can't manually record videos while streaming, so it's one or the other. I've been having trouble keeping a stable link to Twitch as well, but no worried, I'll throw it up here and there when I can.

Well, not much to update. I hit 8k systems visited today. Picked up a new GPU (from a GTX 760 to a R9 280x). Problem now is I can't use shadowplay to stream directly to twitch or record videos so I'll have to find an alternative. Otherwise, still chuggin' along. 52kly from Sol and about to cross over the arms. Another 20kly or so of travel until I am directly opposite of Sol.

Alright so I just plugged in Twitch's sponsored streaming software. It's up if anyone wants to watch for a short while as I test it out and get its nuances down.

Stream is up! As always, intermittent AFKs. Working on a new laptop so I'm turning away here and there to check up on it.

Hey chaps, just updating on my status.

Still alive, still here. Sparsely traveled in the last week but I'm still progressing slowly. I've updated my database and am now up to 600 entries. I'm about to go through them and add all the values to get an approximate value of my data. I have some obligations in another game and RL to handle in the coming couple of weeks so expect my stream to be absent for most of it. I'll get on when I can, however, so feel free to message me in game if you're interested in chatting.

I'm nearing the far edge of the rim, so it's almost time for that 50kly and 65kly meetup.

Compiled all the data I currently have for Water Worlds, ELWs, AWs and TFCs, charted their min/max value and again with the first discovery bonuses.

The list is missing stars, metal rich planets, non-TFC HMCs/rocky/icy planets and anything other than the aforementioned items.

Currently looking at approximately 23-42mcr from those items alone, with another at least 13m from stars, 3m or so from NS/BH/WDs and whatever else is left.

So long story short, I've still got a long way to go if I want to leave a good mark on the data value record, heh...

I'll be on for a bit today. Might stream, not sure yet. Will report back when I hop on!
