Pay2Win made it to Elite

You can only buy funny hats, can't unlock them with gameplay. Boo!
I got the snowman head hat from a holiday event which included gameplay and the Wraith hat from top 10 in the Shamash murder signal CG.

It has a solo mode..... So its not really pay to win, is it? -_-
There's plenty of single player games with pay to win microtransactions/unlocks so that's not a winning argument. If you wanted to compete in those games, say by speedrunning or doing some sort of other challenge run then I imagine those would invalidate it.

Since those are usually just for bragging rights the community can handle banning the unfair stuff, but if it's stuff like DLC cars in racing games with leaderboards or some asynchrous multiplayer like BGS/Powerplay then that's no longer in the players power to police.

Well... it's a bit unfair against the players who made the modules and engineers available in the normal way and yes it's a little bit of pay to win, but only if you define "win" as "you get access to an item without making the quest for it"
I don't see a real problem with that, I'm fine with that.

So you buy a ship and you can shoot another ship (NPC) a little easier. You can jump to further places a little quicker...... How is this pay 2 win? No one cares what other people do any other time, why now? The simple thing to do is ignore ARX and don't buy them. (I'm on the fence about it all tbh, it will not effect me at all)

People who try to compete at various things do in fact care and people aren't drawn to competitions that aren't fair.

Can you give an example? Because killing some NPC's doesn't affect anyone. Tagging a planet doesn't either. There's plenty to go around

Buckyball Events, the long running Sol -> Sag A / Colonia leaderboards, Hutton Orbital Speedrun, any competitive PvP events, etc for player run stuff - where I imagine the prebuilt/early access stuff will be verboten for now.

Better SCA with good jump range might matter for mission running in some edge cases in BGS, but you'd have to look hard for those systems and the advantage there is just less time spent doing the same amount of work. Titan heart damage (which are competitive due to the hidden CG aspect of the top contributors getting bigger ARX rewards) if it comes to titans that are further away where the SCO / range helps due to not being able to park close (even though it's not the best titan bomber and would have survivability issues it could be a timesaver for some, allowing them to get more runs in).

Also the original example of killing some NPCs can affect BGS wars though the main advantage you'd get in an actual serious war from the python mk2 is people spending more time flying combat missions to try out the new ship rather than doing the most effective thing maybe.

If you really want to squeeze the most out of your ARX and get the most competitive advantage from your P2W prebuilt ships possible then here's how you do it:
Combat Squadron Leaderboards -- the amount of points you gain is based on combat XP gained and combat XP gained depends on your rank and the enemy rank (meaning high rank pilots usually get 10 per kill even aganst deadly/elite foes, while low ranks can get hundreds for much easier opponents). This means if you want to win the Combat Squadron Leaderboards it's best to reset your account to reset and level up your combat rank again. Having a prebuilt ship ready to go instead of having to get a cash infusion from someone and spend time building a combat ship for faster kills without access to Shinrarta would save a bit of time and allow for quicker resets (everything in Elite takes longer than you think so don't underestimate the time spend here) which leaves more time to grind combat rank. Of course if you are immune to death from boredom you can outfit rockets and fly to a thargoid surface site to kill scavengers for combat XP too without needing the best ship, but the A rated FSD helps getting there faster, maybe you get the DBX prebuilt for that instead of the Python mk2.

EDIT: actually the time I theorycrafted the combat squadron leaderboards was for legacy, maybe the meta in Odyssey is to kill on foot people for combat rank so this doesn't really apply.

You can say everything I bring up is situational or not "normal gameplay", but that's what pushing every possible advantage to the maximum can look like.

You're never alone in Elite. Solo means you will have no direct contacts, just it. But 10 people who bought ships (or 10 accounts of the same rich man more realistic) can attack your faction's settlements etc. much quicker then before destroying your faction.
Just example.

If BGS manipulation and Powerplay interaction didn't exists I'd be inclined to agree. But so long as indirect competition exists, people can affect your goals despite never sharing an instance with you. And you can't turn that off by not buying Arx.

This defeats the entire purpose of the game: Starting with a small ship, working your way up to buy your "dream ship".
Then spend time gathering resources, finding engineers to upgrade it. Spending all this time to get your top tier ship makes it feel very special when you achieve it.
If you can just buy all this at day 1, what's the point?
