People threatening to quit the game

This is pretty much every game forum out there you get people complaining how there going to quit when you get a week later you find that they are still playing the game.

- - - Updated - - -

I take periodic breaks from ED. I find that I need to have some variety in my games. So I revisit other games every now and then and leave ED alone for a month or so.

I do the same

Erm, i didnt play the game for almost a week. Because there was some decent weather and i was out on my bike and doing life things. Because i wasnt interested in the CGs and not that fussed about engaging with the beta. What i didnt do was write a long, gloomy and very negative post about how rubbish everything is and how shockingly poor FD are at developing their game.

Im puzzled folks. Why do you folks do it? What do you think you are achieving? How does it help to say you havent played for weeks or months but blah, blah blah? Do you approach other aspects of life in the same manner or do you just save it for this game?

Please hear my heart folks. Im trying not to be negative, just curious about your motives and motivations

This is every game forum ever. There is always a contingent of people who hang their entire entertainment needs and even sometimes their self-worth on a single game, and then are of course ruined when the game doesn't support that level of neediness at every turn. They stay forever, slowly resenting more and more the fact that they're not getting what they need instead of simply going to find what they need elsewhere.

It's like staying in a bad relationship to avoid being alone, instead of using the 500000 available dating sites or even going to the grocery store in a nice shirt. Much simpler for some people to just stay with someone they hate, and game relationships seem to fall into this same dynamic for many people.

This! Very insightful Sir/Madam. Rep to you.

Most of my time with ED (since Nov '14) has been spent not playing the game but waiting for it to get any good.

And that is still what I'm doing over 2 years later. Sometimes something on the forum or elsewhere may excite me and I load the game so I can be a spaceship commander! The game loads and within ten minutes the dreary (yet wonderful-looking) reality comes back to me. Then I turn it off.

Fly an Eagle, try to take out some Anacondas in it, and never be dreary again?
Bet you a ton of Painite you can't do it, though theoretically possible (hint: chaff/heat sink like billy-o!)

Well that wasn't very nice.

You may think so, but I'm genuinely wondering why the hell anyone would behave in such a way, and whether this is just an abberative one-off behaviour, or its a feature how the person treats all-the-things they come in contact with.

Er... because FD occaisonally update it and I bought S2... which is as of yet unfinished. So I wait to see if the game improves.

You pompous .

I left the game for three months, after playing three hours a day, every day since launch. Personal reasons; nothing to do with the game or Frontier. And I didn't post a thread about it. Did I break the forum rules? :)

Attention seekers will follow their nature. I just step wide of the cot to avoid the thrown toys. You can't please all of the people all of the time.

If someone has a problem with the game, post a rational argument for change and there's a good chance Frontier will listen. It has happened enough times already to have set a precedent.

LOL you wouldn't last five seconds playing Elite. ED is not "Elite". At best it's "Elite-lite", for slow minds and limp wrists.

Well arent you special. Son Ive been playing space sims before the internet. Ive played everything, and several anyone would struggle in.
Dont give a rats fuzzy behind about old games, or names of games, if thats all you got, its weak sauce.
Ive been an ace in every sim Ive ever flown in. If you think you have a brass set, head over to Ace's High, and try and just get off the ground, yet along combat. So lets not degrade folks that you dont know, its rude.
BTW I dont think Elite Dangerous's flight model is challenging at all. Its fun, but way down on the hard scale. The learning curve is semi-flat. Unlike real sims.

Every few weeks I'll get sick and tired of Elite (for example now) and I'll just switch to another game for a few weeks (now it's Hellion and SC, last time it was SC and NMS) until I get bored of those, and then I'll end up back in here. Crop rotation is the name of the game :)
