Pilot Ejection Table - For those who want some risk in their game!

And if you crash because you ran out of fuel in Combat while you're seeing a mirage of a starport (so technically within visual distance) and driving out of a canyon on to a flat spot but your SRV roles back onto rough terrain while it explodes?:D

But seriously the rule of thumb should be - highest modifier only, no stacking within categories unless otherwise stated.

Started off the New Year with a bang - a big bang as my Keelback bit the dust. Back to Sidewinder ;)

Man, two weeks away can make you rusty fast. I was slow to remember my defensive techniques and in a Keelback you NEED to remember every one of those badly.

2 weeks? I think I'd be in ED withdrawal after a week.

I suppose it wouldn't change too much, but you could add a variable depending on how good your relationship is with the controlling faction (populated systems, of course)

You could... but honestly it's at a point now where we don't need to make things more complicated. Down that road lies madness.

You could easily argue that Search and Rescue don't actually know who they're rescuing, it's just signals and life pods to scoop. We don't see pilot names on escape pods after all.

Added a new option: IronMan Lite;)

This was because of all the comments in this thread that amounted to "Great idea, but....." and backed off using it themselves. I'm thinking the real stickler for them isn't starting over ship-wise, but rank-wise (be it Elite rank or Faction rank). Given that it's not hard to get back on your feet, this might appeal. Added to main post:

OR MAYBE A HINT LESS RISK? TRY LITE.
Some might be looking at the long term with future updates and features that will require Elite rank, Faction rank or other requirements to unlock, and thinking "damn, that's just too long a slog." In this case, treat death as you would an Insurance Loophole. But first, sell all your ships and put the credits into the most expensive ship you can afford, upgrade till you have as close to zero credits as you can, then press self destruct and watch the pretty light show. Do it multiple times if you have to ;) Then start from your free Sidewinder.

You start at Zero, but your ranks are left intact, and money will be easier to come by as a result. You'll be back on your feet in no time.

How do you get rid of all your assets?

Sell your ships, dump it into the biggest ship you can afford, upgrade it with whatever you have left until you're as close to zero as possible. For some rich folk that might mean blowing up multiple Anacondas, but to be honest I doubt those types would use the Pilot Ejection Table anyway.

I don't want to side track this thread but having recently got back into to playing elite more frequently and using IronMan mode I would really like to link up with a group of fellow Iron men and women in space for some wing fun. I tried to set up a group for IronMen but that did not really take off (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=165344).

If there are any Iron men or women out there interested in making a wing etc then please do send me a message.

Thanks.

Was just browsing the forums and think I'm going to reset and use this as really like the idea of the escape pod not being 100% safe and affected by differing circumstances. Just wish it was an option within the game proper.
.
Thank you to everyone that contributed but especially the OP. EDIT: ... And KellyR and No3kins for their work on the standalone app and webapp. Cheers!
