Pilot Ejection Table - For those who want some risk in their game!

Really enjoying these rules - I must be on my 20th commander or so by now.

My latest commander was in the top 10% at the Morrina CG and decided to take a break by joyriding in an SRV on the ice world Morrina 8.

Unfortunately, he only realised that the planet has near-Earth gravity, after he started skiing down a 60 degree, bumpy hill. Boom. Dice roll: 3. Game over!

wow, 17 pages long - forgive me if this has already been mentioned, but I don't think an ejection table would be very comfortable, I go with keeping the seat.

Blowed up my ship. Started from sidewinder.

something I like about the table is that it can be made flexible in terms of punishment based on your desires. Go ultra and do a clear save, or go lite and maybe just erase your fortune and ships. Some might even want to hold onto an engineered ship but "lock it off" until conditions are met because it'll be too hard to build it up again. Ironman mode in the game would never have that flexibility.

new tweaks to the table. I'm thinking 20LY from a capital planet instead of 10LY (one good jump for most ships) as well as a similar bubble within whatever system you call home (If you have one). Logic being you get well known near your home they're going to try harder to find you, and if you know it so well, you'd have a better idea how to increase your chances of being found.

I've cleared mine several times. Had one save, I was rescued 4 or 5 times with the last one an insurance loophole. Then had an NPC gun me down just after I'd gotten my Cobra and got a bad roll. I've seen several weapons fire detected. Threats 1 and it's been a lone wanted federal assault ship with a system authority ship in close proximity. Seeing as I was in an adder, I'm like, Sorry occifer, you're on your own. And low waked out.

Since I currently only have 4 Million in assets, I have decided to sell all ships and jump into one and go until I die. I am currently in a Cobra III and will probably upgrade from here. Ironman, here I come.... :)

Ouch! Got into my Keelback and died within a few hours. Wiped and heading out again! Thanks again for a cool game option!!!

I find straight Ironman to be too limiting. There is an escape capsule after all. Any modern spacecraft (especially in 3202) is going to have that. However, that's no guarantee you will survive. It increases survival odds, yes, but it doesn't guarantee survival (which is actually a good thing as most guarantees are bullcrap anyway). Space is cold, inhospitable and deadly. And anything made by man can fail.

That's why I use the table (in the form of my program) to determine my character's fate upon ship destruction. That way, if I ever do get to the rank of Elite, I'll know I've earned it and it will be so much sweeter.

I used your fine, easy to use program to determine my fate in the Keelback as previously mentioned. I just plugged in my situation and cross my fingers to see the outcome. In that case, I died, but I feel that the table and your program make a reasonable potential outcome. One that I can "live" with.

Great stuff! Thanks guys!!

Glad you're getting use out of the program. And it was intended to be as painless as possible, although getting a Character Death result is anything but painless; imo, anyway. But hey, you pays your money, you takes your chances.

Hey, Mossfoot, when 2.2 drops, how do you want to handle it if you are in a ship launched fighter and it is destroyed? I recommend a +2 if there is one or more hired crew operating the ship, or +1 if the ship is on straight computer AI i.e. no hired crew on board. But that's just a suggestion. I'll update the program to 2.2 when Horizon 2.2 drops, but need to know how you want to handle it.

Also I'd like to know if you'd like to modify the SRV table if there is crew aboard. Seems like if there was crew aboard, it would make it more likely (at least somewhat) that you'd get picked up.

I had already added a modifier for crew when you crash in the SRV, but just tweaked it now.

Being in a fighter, though, is irrelevant. You're operating it virtually while still in your cockpit. And I'm not sure having multiple crew would increase your chances of being found. More distress signals, I suppose, but certainly nothing huge.

Changes Made:

Ship Ejection Table:

WINGS/CREW/PASSENGERS
Being in a wing should improve your chances of rescue since you are in constant communication. Being on your own provides a slight disadvantage (which can still be made up for in a variety of ways on other tables). Note: these bonuses apply even if your wingmates are not in the same system ("I've lost Bob's signal. He was over in Achenar, call Search and Rescue!"). Likewise, having a crew means more distress beacons to be picked up, as do the escape pods present in the passenger cabins. However, since you're all ejecting into roughly in the same area, there are diminishing returns on the bonuses provided. Multiple crew and multiple passengers provide no additional bonuses.
Flying Solo -1
Wing of Two +0
Wing of Three +0
Wing of Four + 1
Additional Crew +1 (Human or NPC - stacks with wing)
Passenger Cabins +1 (stacks with others, only if occupied)

SRV Ejection Table:

WINGMEN/CREW
Wingmen and Crew can help coordinate your rescue and feed information to your ship to help retrieve you.
Flying Solo -1 (relying on ship computer only for retrieval)
Wing of Two +0
Wing of Three + 1
Wing of Four + 2
Ship Crew/Co-Pilot +2 (Human or NPC - does NOT stack with wing)

Oh, right. Thanks. Well, I will be releasing a new version when 2.2 production goes live.

But as for having your SLF shot out from under you, you'll still eject. I think that should be treated like a SRV (in combat) as the main ship is still intact and it can rescue you.

Well, I seem to have gotten the false positive taken care of. I submitted the executable to Qihoo-360 on their false positive reporting page. They analyzed it and added it to the white list. So as soon as 2.2 drops to the live server, I'll be releasing Ver. 2.2 of the program.

Pheuu ... (theoretically speaking) I survived but lost my ship. (posed a theoretical interdiction where I lost - yea right)
