what is that steel thing between the supports?

A maintanance elevator?

I believe it's some sort of maintenance thing, elevator or ladder

It is an elevator. You can find some amusing videos on Youtube of Top Thrill stalling, and a maintenance employee having to ride the elevator all the way to the top, and physically push the train over.

Since I posted behind the scenes images last year of Top Thrill from the Sunrise Thrills tour, I'm going to be checking for accuracy Sam! ;)

The amount of NOPE in me having to be up at altitude, manually pushing a coaster.... nooooppppeeee. I'll remain seated on the coaster fine thank you. [knockout] Can't imagine being a ride/coaster tech for those coasters. I guess you'd get use to it after a while...

I can't imagine the amount of sway the structure would have at that height. In my avatar, I'm actually standing on the top of the lift for Valravn (Top Thrill in the background incidentally), and even at 200 ft, you could feel the whole structure sway with the wind. Granted, I had a harness on and was tethered to a guide rail on Valravn, but still very thrilling to walk around up there and get a better feeling of the height rather than quickly passing by riding on the coaster train.

It's a lift so mechanics can give the train a gentle nudge when it gets stuck at the top!

HAHA! Nothing gentle about it. Those trains weigh thousands of pounds, it's no small feat to push a stalled train over the top. Luckily, stalls on the top hat are very rare, requires the right weather conditions and just the right distribution of weight on the train. Otherwise, they would have installed a drive motor at the top to prevent them. If rollbacks are the holy grail of coasterdom, a stall out at the top is worth bragging rights forever. [cool] One can only hope for that experience lol

You know if they know it may get stuck. Why don't the install a chain lift on that part. Never understood why it was not designed into it.

Obviously it´s probably not worth it? How many times it gets stucked on the top of the tophat? And how much does such a chainlift cost? It´s obvious why it´s not there ;)

EDIT:

I wish all pre-made elements were as smooth as this tophat in the picture

So I thought I’d drop a little spoiler in here..

You may have noticed that there’s something odd about this screenshot.

Normally this coaster cannot invert due to the in-game manufacturer’s restrictions.

The 1.4 release will contain a little gem that I know a lot of the community (who we love and cherish) will love and cherish :)

We are going to be removing some of the restrictions on the roller coasters! We’ve been busy experimenting with making this work and we’ve found that we can provide the following options without seriously breaking things :p

  • All Steel coasters can now do full loops, they can also invert fully using banking.
  • Wooden/hybrid coasters can go up to 85 degrees on slopes, and can now invert fully using banking.
  • The exception is Hop The Gaps which can go on 85 degree slopes, and can bank to 85 degrees which is way beyond its default.
  • The affected parts are the default track pieces – some other tracks pieces that use ride parameters will be able to take advantage of these changes, but anything with specific parameters (like chain lifts) will be unaffected by the restrictions.
  • No tracked rides or transport rides are affected.
The option to remove restrictions will be in the main options menu under the ‘Gameplay settings’ tab as a tick-box.

I hope everyone enjoys the new freedom and I can’t wait to see what madness comes of it!

Much love
Sam.

On top of that, can you now add in the premade inversions on the coasters when you check the "remove resrictions" option?

One thing you can always count on from Frontier - a fantastic job! [yesnod] Thanks to the whole Frontier staff for your hard work and dedication to making the best game out there.

Great announcement.

I'm pleased to read that you going to improve the UI, it is needed. [up]
Especially the item browsers. Categories and subcategories should be looked over. Some new should be added and some moved around to make it more comprehensive.
A lot of items are misplaced and should be looked over if it belongs to another category. Like arches and centre pieces that lies today in the big Misc. Or windows and doors that is placed like wall decorations.

The upcoming update will give us the option to disable (almost) all track restrictions for coasters! Sam spoiled this feature here:

https://forums.planetcoaster.com/showthread.php/29924-Planet-Coaster-1-4-Anniversary-Update/page2?p=214597&viewfull=1#post214597

I hope they will remove all limitations and make the minimum track length on all coasters 4m or maybe even shorter if it is possible. [up]

Hiya,

When it comes to minimum track length, that will not change. Those track restrictions are there so the train always looks like it's on the track; we've had to draw a line on how far combinations can go, with those minimum length restrictions in place. Another factor is that this is a game feature supported in the options menu, rather than hidden behind a cheat.

Hope that makes sense!!

Lots of excellent stuff in this update, looking forward to it!

Haven't found an answer to this, sorry to ask: are we going to get Advanced Move/Rotate on rides in this update? Really need that! [cry]

You know you can use the multi select tool.. Click on the ride and then hit x for advanced move on a ride/coaster
