Planet Coaster - Spring Update

That is fair enough, not knocking your view. I just feel different personally.

I respect that of course :D But have you seen the DLC for Total War Warhammer for example? It's a sixty Euro Game, and they want for a Blood Mode 2 Euro. A Blood Mode. A thing that should have been in a WARHAMMER Game. And a lot of Races are not playable, because you have to buy them as an Extra. A SIXTY Euro Game!

With that in mind i have ZERO problems buying the DLC from Frontier.

That is why I haven't brought it at all though ;) I love the genre and have Rome Total War because still the best for me. But I really wanted to get Warhammer till I saw all the DLC and so I will wait till there is a game of the year edition and it is £20 and get it with all the DLC's or something or wait 3 years for the other parts they are on about and then wait till it cheap too.

I paid the £50 for this at the time for Alpha so it was full price of a AAA game and it is at that level almost (still missing management too much for me to really agree to it fully). And that is why I don't purchase many games. There are few that come out without adding these DLC parts. The ones that do are brilliant but generally indie games or just generic FPS games.

Even Doom is a rip off, £30 base and then £12 per DLC which adds like 3 new maps, a new monster and a new weapon. That honestly to me feels like it should have been about £4-£5 in honesty for that amount.

Well it doesn't really count though, because you payed for the privilege of playing Alpha. The Base Game isn't full price though. Because of that i think it is unfair to hold the optional extra Money you payed against the Game.

See I don't though. I feel that I paid the triple AAA price. No other game makes you pay more to get into Alpha as far as I have ever seen. I knew what I was paying for and it would be cheaper at release but I am holding Frontier to the price I paid as an Alpha player who contributed during it's development.

Either way though I still just don't believe in small DLC practice be it visual (especially in this genre of game) or single items. Bigger DLC with a new Biome, new rides, new theme, signs to match, new mascot, update to the management to incorperate new play features from added content etc at £10 would be fine. If you take that base game is £30 then to get 1/3rd of content at £10 a pop makes sense to me.

To be honest, I feel the opposite. I don't think I would be happy for things like new biomes, or complete rides to be sold for an extra price, as then it creates a split between people who have bought different things. By "cosmetic" I assume they mean things that won't affect gameplay, and won't have that same issue, and I think that is a better idea. Of course, they have to make money somehow if they want to continue with development, and I think the best way to do that is to make it optional, rather than affect gameplay and force you to buy it to keep up.

@gregor- curly said he does not want individual item dlc, he would rather have bundle packs like rct3 soaked

(i think most of us agree on that) [up]

I know what he said, and I know what I said ;)

This thread is about the Spring update, and the announced cosmetic DLC. Not future expansions.

We don't even have a clue what will be in those DLCs yet. Just speculation. But we KNOW they are cosmetic in nature. So just ignore them if you don't want to spend any extra Money. Done.

And i have the utmost Faith in Frontier that they will produce a very good meaty Addon for the Game.

Sooner or laier you need to pay for more PC Content. That's what they called business. I'm sure you take 9$ for a simple Donut in your game and you moan about a few Pounds for a DLC? If you think, it's too expensive, don't buy it. Simple!

And BTW: Don't know why you discuss about DLC or Add-ons in a thread about the FREE Spring update. But maybe i've overseen something.

Anyone else hoping that this update is much bigger than the winter update? The winter one was released a month after the game came out, this one will release nearly four months after the winter update!

But they already listed what is going to be in it. Is there more that they're holding back until next month for the release? Only 3 flat rides? There has to be more. But, we are also getting boomerang coasters, suspended swinging coaster, and go-karts. Why would they issue a press release that is incomplete if there is more besides what was listed? Sam had a whole stack of papers on the video, and he didn't even show the boomerang coasters, and said that there is more than what was shown. So, with the boomerangs, we can make Sea Serpent at Mariner's Landing in Wildwood, NJ and Stinger, Invertigo, etc. at Cedar Fair parks? I wish for an Intamin inverted impulse coaster and a larger flume ride with a rectangular boat as well. And a larger grand carousel.

They said it was just a small part of the update so there should be more surprises coming.

Yes & No. I am willing to suspect the artists and some of the animators were already working on the Winter update stuff whilst it was rolling out as Beta which gives us more like 2 months for the winter update.

With that also though I can see why you are suggesting there has to be more. I woudl say that it appears the go karts were very complex and so took up a massive resource. With that, it likely that took longer than almost anything else in game from what I can tell.

The new coaster looks awesome and again needed some great work to get the physics or at least faux physics to work.

We have seen the premise on the number of rides and we know there is more scenery items etc but we don't know what has gone on under the hood, there doesn't really appear to be anything noted on management other than security so we will see if anything more is there.

There is a lot that needs to be done in my opinion to finish the base game, always has been and I will stand by that but I think actually the rides etc right now are good in quality to quantity. I just want the niggles with pathing sorted so it snaps better and is quicker to use with the grid system. I would really like them to sort the water out so the level of the water is better because at the moment it is clearly locked to the vertical grid and thus limits positioning. It really needs it's own height system that is much more granular to make it visually better.

There other small key areas , mascots topic has some of that it recently, I re-bumped the management thread as I still think it is key and now players are more familiar with the system and game as it is I feel it may be that more understand those points and how they can flesh out all the parts that have already been included. I mean most are not easy to do but then if they were easy to do then we would all be games developers. :)

Keep up the good work Frontier and am looking forward to seeing what is brought in for the management players.

how does this change the fact that the time between beta and the winter update was 1 month? if they were working on go karts back in the fall, does that mean the time from december to the next update is more than 4 months? I think its pretty obvious the devs have been holding stuff back, but the "timeframe" between updates has increased from 1 month (between beta and winter update) to 4 months for the new update

Sorry was meant to say I am sure they were working on it before Beta in certain departments. Early morning wake up for me still as my mug says in office "I'll start working when the coffee does"

I still don't think the time frame is as strict as team A was working up to this release and now only working on 'X' till we release next update. So the point is that the time between updates is irrelevant because they are working on lots of things in lots of departments that take different amounts of time and they are pushing them in updates as they become usable.

I would not suggest though they were intentionally holding things back just to add into an update. Likely it was started and they have a road map of what they want out over a 12 month period (which is fluid with our feedback to a point) and as things are done and tested they are released.

That is very different to go going you did all the work for the winter update in 1 month and we got X, Y & Z so we now expect 4x that because have had 4 months since (ignoring they closed for a few weeks too).

So yeah sorry that was my point really, that these things are not defined in exact monthly blocks and so we will automatically get more because as such.

the point wasn't about how much time they have spent developing things, its about how long we have waited. If it only took them 3 months to complete something but then waited 6 months to release it, people eventually lose interest (obviously nobody is claiming that is whats happening). Its like how a lot of people who want more management have left the game because they are not willing to wait. So the time frame of 1 month from beta to the winter update means that a lot of people expect the next update to be bigger, and by the looks of things I would say thats probably true
