Planet Zoo 2 Speculation and ideas

So following the awesome announcement of PC2, let's discuss PZ2. Here are soem questions:
  1. What do you think will be in PZ2?
  2. What will be the key new features?
  3. How much of the current roster will transfer to the sequel?
  4. What are your hopes?
  5. What do you hope not to see in a sequel?
  6. What feature from what's announced in PC2 will you want in PZ2?
  7. What do you think will be the base roster of the sequel? And how many species?

I'm kind of surprised they stuck with the cartoony guests to be honest, I would prefer to see slightly more realistic guests in PZ2. Not that it really matters, it's just a preference.

Honestly my number one biggest hope (and fear) right now about PC2 and PZ2 is performance and playability. The existing games are already demanding to run on a machine well above minimum specs. Better graphics and more features make me really nervous the games will become unplayable for anyone without a top of the line machine. So I'm just hoping that performance is improved with the new engine. I guess time will tell.

1. Well hopefully this time we'll see fully aquatic animals and flying birds, I see this as main selling point of the sequel 🐠🦜

2. As mentioned above, hopefully Aviaries and Tanks. Exhibit-esque tanks and fully customizable habitat tanks, same thing for aviaries. If we are to wait for another game to see birds, I want fully animated, flying birds for habitats, not only WE. One big thing I need in sequel is Species Selector or name it however. Maybe keep animal market for Franchise, but for Sandbox let me pick and choose specimen to my liking. Stuff like age, size, pattern, color, fertility, what have you. And then maybe in some update down the line tusks, antlers, horns, manes...

3. As much as possible I hope. It's hard to imagine we'll get all animals from base game and DLCs directly into base PZ2, but at least I hope that whatever base roster is, that is made more balanced than in PZ. Now that they don't have to keep animals like Polar Bears, Jaguars, Kangaroos and such to sell DLCs (one would imagine new DLCs might lean more on newly introduced bird and fish rosters).

4. I mean my hopes don't go much further than what I already mentioned (I stated multiple times that the game we have currently is in near perfect state), but I do wonder still if I'm being too ambitious. But really Aquatic and Bird roster with quality of "land roster" we already have + some much awaited updates to core gameplay would make for an ultimate zoo game.

5. Same models, both for humans and animals. If they're taking their tame with new game, I would like quality of animals to be consistent. I legit don't play with some animals because they don't visually fit. For the same reason I don't let goofy guests in my parks. It might seem as silly complaint, but visuals are everything for me. While we're there I'd like to also get rid of Keeper's carrying animals in boxes and accompanying confetti and stuff. I'm sure there will be more constructive, more gameplay focused entries for this point, but this my #1 complaint.

6. I'd have to take closer look to PC2 updates to answer this one, but from what I already skimmed over, scaling decorations easily.

7. I'll definitely get back to base roster, I like to rethink stuff like this over and over, but in broad strokes:

In: Polar Bear, Jaguar, Kangaroo, Meerkat, Capybara, White Rhinoceros...

Out: Bonobo, Himalayan Bear, Pangolin, Gharial, Pronghorn, Nile Monitor....

1. Revamped versions of PZ1 animals (especially base roster). A lot of returning scenery and features.

2. Aviaries and aquariums are the obvious selling points. Probably also a revamp of exhibits and walkthrough exhibits.

3. In the base roster, I'd expect almost all of them to come back, possibly with some shuffling around regarding clones (e.g. HBB swapped for a Eurasian brown bear, or a generic African lion), plus some (but distinctly not all) of the most "important" DLC animals like the capybara, sea lion, and jaguar.

4. See #2--a big focus on aviaries and aquarium fish, more exhibit herps (and smaller fish and invertebrates), and a lot more monkeys and habitat birds as well, with an eye towards species that are common in captivity (without completely throwing unique rarities like the platypus overboard)

5. Only hard no for me is extinct animals.

6. Scaling and pathing fixes seem obvious.

I know this might sound ridiculous, but what Frontier could do in Planet Zoo 2 is implementing a system that allows players to choose subspecies and/or subpopulations of certain animals, which could potentially solve the "biased roster" issue.
For example, the species name will be just brown bear on zoopedia, but the animals available will be of different subspecies like grizzlies or kodiaks, but even captive hybrids will be in the trade so one has to decide maintaining genetics if considering conservation programs like IRL.

But hey that'd be too much work so maybe they'd stick with the same animal roster, who knows.
But hopefully with more FEASIBLE species choices 😅

The problem is not all subspecies look alike... you can't just change the name and suddenly it's a different subspecies.

1&2. Either aviaries or aquariums, they need atleast one of them to even warrant a sequel in the first place
3. Ideally all of it. But since they probably(hopefully) touch up or completely redo all the animals, especially the basegame and early dlc ones they might aswell shuffle some species around like a different tiger species or the squirrel monkey instead of the capuchin for example. Doesnt have to be the exact same roster but a comparable one.
4. That a sequel is going to be more of a payed update than a "lets start from scratch again", because that would suck.
Would like to see Frontier taking a look at mods and maybe incorporating the idea of them into the game. Freebuild for example would be a blessing to have in the sandbox mode. Or the one that automatically takes care of Z-fighting.
Also an updated exhibit system
5. Extinct animals are certainly way down on my prio list, they are just kinda redundat to add to PZ.
Also anything that takes away from the current creative aspect. Some time ago there were some suggestion that PZ2 might go a way more like the JWE games where you just plop down a finished building and HELL NAH keep that stuff away from me.
6. Didnt really watch much on it yet so i might miss some new features, but scaling would be cool. Not nessecarily for everything but for fonts and art shapes it would be very cool to make custom signs alot easier to do.

Well for that part, can't they do physical changes in details too? I mean back in ZTXbox they made it as seperate species most likely due to data limitations, but this time around the PC engines should be able to merge those kinda things into a single species but with different hair patterns, sizes, hair textures and other physiques depending on taxons. Heck maybe allowing players to choose subspecies of the animals bought in sandbox mode would even do. 😂

But what's the point of that? Why not just make each subspecies a unique animal?

I love that idea.

Oh you do? 😂
Glad I'm not the only one. But like @DragonNTiger said; not every subspecies look alike and if trying to make them individually distinct why not just make it a unique species as it is now in PZ. 😅😅
I mean, if you happen to purchase a subspecies hybrid, try not to release into the wild otherwise your zoo lose credit or something, a bit more realism with irl zoos. I think a good example would be that of tigers and lions.
I thought of this idea cuz if Frontiers made the Planco people looked a slight more detailed in PC2, why not the animals😂

Apart from what I've mentioned above, what I'd wish to see in PZ2 would definitely be aquarium and aviary added. With cetaceans being the most difficult to keep; literally like 3 times the need of a polar bear right now 🤣🤣🤣
