🐾 Planet Zoo: Africa Pack arriving 22 June 🐾

African penguins hold a special place in my childhood! Because they, along with the South American Magellanic (from the SF Zoo), are a memorable species for me!

When I was a little boy, whenever I would go to the old build of the Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, this type of penguin was what was exhibited (even to this day), and there would be a "touch pad" of sorts, that's the shape of a penguin) where if you press your hand on it, it makes a noise that they make which is memorable to me before and after it talks about the penguins themselves.

yea for lions, only 2 subspecies are recognized, P. leo leo and P. leo melanochaita

Personally, if it were me, I'd change them into the latter as that's much more common in zoos and that's what it looks like

I for one I am very pleased with finally getting small animals and still hope for more.

Yes, gameplay is important but so is immersion in this zoo simulation game. And an very important part of zoos are small, "filler" animals. Between the big star animal exhibits, you will always find dozens of smaller enclosures with all the small critters (and really a zoo game without meerkats? They are a small big star animals for many).

You can take it as a new challenge. Is it hard for you to find them when they escape? Well then make sure they dont! Also, correct me if I am wrong, but my vets do automatically capture escaped animals without my intervention if they are not assigned to do something else.

I was at Columbus on Saturday. There are two.
here’s a tweet on it: Source: https://mobile.twitter.com/columbuszoo/status/1370389552762880001

San Diego put Amur leopards in the African section, so oops. And it looks like Maryland’s died a few years ago: https://www.marylandzoo.org/news-an...and-zoo-says-farewell-african-leopard-hobbes/
When I was last there a decade ago, it was an African
Quick google suggests the AZA made a shift a few years ago to focus on Amur Leopards, and thus the replacements.
Yep, makes it only Columbus then.
As I said. African Leopards are extremly limited in zoos. I can't find recent US statistics, but in 2013 it were only two zoos. In the EAZA it's also only two, while the EAZA lists no African leopard in accosiated zoos outside the EU.
Amur Leopards, however, are in the top 10 species of big cats in zoos.
The shift from african to amur happened way before 2013, so we are speaking of a time frame that probably shouldn't even be considered by Frontier.

From a zoo perspective they made the right decision not including the african leopard. If you really miss them though and don't mind using mods, the community has you reeeaaally covered on this one. There are three versions to choose from, if every file is updated. Ddidn't check that.

Now the hardest part. Tuesday couldn’t come fast enough.

Tell me about it. Even with regards to the update this time...
Right?! I believe this is the smallest time frame between announcement and release and for whatever reason this time really feel like MONTH away. I'm twiddeling my thumbs here, not touching my zoos until I have this awesome building pieces and these species to play with.

I'm looking forward to seeing how the digging happen for the meerkats, and whether this will pose any challenges in terms of habitat building and escapes. I know that we can use one of the barrier styles to pull barriers underground, so maybe that can stop the digging? (Though I don't know whether this goes far enough underground to stop them in real life).

Also interested to see if the king penguins and african penguins have any cross-over in their terrain/plant requirements, opening up the possibility of mixed-species penguin habitats. I'm guessing we'd have to keep the temperatures at the highest end for the kings, and lowest end for the africans. Anyone know if these two species are kept together in any real zoos?

there's no elegant resolution that lets you return to your quick bird's eye view

This gives me an idea. I'd love to be able to set a camera position (or a few), and have a quick method (maybe a hot key?) to return us to that view/those views once we've managed. It sounds like you and I play in very similar ways, with management being of high importance to me, and I often find myself spending a lot of time just "returning" myself (or my cursor) to my watch tower after taking care of something in a far off corner of the zoo.

Tbh a sonoran desert dlc sounds great With picks like the collared pekari, roadrunners and thouse rabbits With the really long ears.
Maybe something like a bobcat as a predator and it sounds like it could be a fine pack with great foliage and pieces!
Would absolutely love this

Optimism my friend optimism, never forget we still have the element of money on our side.
As long as the dlc sell well we can proppably expect more to come
Why did I read this with the Voice of John Hammond in my Head? 🙃

The one in the game doesn't have a subspecies, it's just the generic Panthera onca.
Agree with this one. It just shows up as Panthera onca and also the Name that is used on the Market, Animal Lists..... doesn't show it as any specific Subspecies. I think unlike with Wolf Subspecies there isn't even much of a optical Difference between Jaguar Subspecies except the Fact that the North American Jaguar seems to be a bit smaller.

… and is, therefore, a subspecies of lion (Panthera leo)
And according to the Subspecies System that some People see as outdated, this would mean it is the Barbary Lion (they get even called that in the Tutorial). I wish they would've just called it Barbary Lion everywhere else too. I think the West African Lion isn't even kept in any Zoos. It even looks way more like a Barbary Lion than a West African Lion

It isn't "seen as outdated", it is scientifically outdated. Genetic evidence points to two distinct subspecies, of which the Barbary lion is only one subpopulation. You can't have opinions on science, it either is or it isn't.

Of course you can't have own Opinions regarding scientific Facts. Is there a Article about it being backed up by Genetic Research?
