🐾 Planet Zoo: Africa Pack arriving 22 June 🐾

There are just a handful of african leopards in zoos and this is a zoo game.
An Asia / India pack would be your bet on getting a leopard.
We certainly have one in Columbus. San Diego and Maryland have one. Not sure I’ve ever seen the Amur leopard in a zoo. (Clouded, certainly.) possibly more common in the US?

You're stating you would much rather have versatility while advocating for the removal of an entire type/size of animal for the game. Versatility is benefited from having multiple types/sizes of animals to fit certain niches. Your logic is that some animals aren't suited to certain game modes/situations, but that's true of many animals. And in a game where I want more and more animals, I definitely don't want to go down a path where the goal is to whittle away as many animals as possible to just a few that are the most beneficial to all situations. I'd rather a zoo with 2 dozen animals of varying sizes than just 20 giraffe enclosures because that would be easier to manage. Especially because at the end of the day this is a zoo simulator. And I don't think I've ever seen or heard of a zoo that only has animals above a certain size threshold.

I would much rather have versatility than being forced into certain ways or gameplay loops, though I do understand why people would prefer the opposite.

Polar bears at the very least don't require a drastic alteration to overviewing zoos. And with the upcoming space reduction, they're becoming even more advantageous.

I mentioned Sandbox Mode specifically as that's the mode that encourages creativity the most. The other 2 modes have limitations that make creativity non-optimal.
first there are 5 game modes on pz: sandbox (the most played) Franchise (The second most played), challenge, scenarios and timed scenarios (the less played) also i have franchises who are very creative to you own information, and yes, polar bears need a drastic alteration to overviewing zoos, also they still need 10 k of money to be fed, that is, still unfeasible

Also a African dog don't look good in a 200 meters habitat, and many people still like to follow the animals' space orders, (we don't like the plants limitation)

and just to finish, little animals fit very well in the others 4 games modes (actually, i believe in the five, even with yous contradictions) so basically you want frontier keep putting big animals, because you play the timed scenarios (The less played) and have a problem with little animals (Why you want to find them?).

I'm not entirely against smaller animals. It just has to be done with a reasonable minimum. I have my absolute preferred minimum be a full body length of 70cm for adults, to which neither the fennec fox nor the meerkat qualify to reach (and the maximum size for African penguins).

Why? Because this is a video game. They need to have limits so the player can effectively engage in playing the video game. There will never be a zoo simulator that allows people to perfectly emulate the zoo of their dreams; compromises must be enacted in order to accomodate for current hardware limitations and human abilities. And perhaps this is a core problem with striving for maximum realism rather than truly imaginative idealism.

I'm gonna attempt to switch this topic because I think everyone's made their point and it's just devolving quickly.

I really, really hope we get some desert foliage in both the Africa pack and also (hopefully) in the 1.6 update. I have been wanting to make a desert zoo for so long, but there just aren't enough options so I always end up deleting it.

I know the grass at the bottom right of the Southern white rhino still is new, as well as the tree in the upper left. I think we're getting a new palm tree as well, but I don't know if it's been showcased yet. Hopefully we get a couple more!

Especially African desert foliage — I agree with you. We could also use asian/African rainforest foliage.

Ok, so, how many habitat species are in the game that can live in the desert? I'm assuming that at least 2 of the 4 we're receiving will have the desert tag (just planning out a possible desert-theme zoo)

ā€œCan liveā€ is the key here. This is a list, though most of them would appear odd in a true desert section. The Fox and meerkat are absolutely desert animals though (Sahara and Kalahari IIRC)

why we simply don't create a topic to discuss this?

Do you have a source for Maryland and San Diego? Because I can't find one and both zoos state they have Amur Leopards indeed.
The African Leopard in Columbus Zoo unfortunately passed away last year.

DUDE, c'mon, you defend EXTINCT ANIMALS IN PZ, this literally appears under you answers.

Well, it's mostly African animals right now. We've got:
  • African elephant
  • African wild dog
  • Bactrian camel
  • Cheetah
  • Common ostrich
  • Dingo
  • Gemsbok
  • Red kangaroo
  • Springbok
With the additions of:
  • Fennec fox
  • Meerkat
  • Southern white rhino
And also, the following animals need to have the desert tag added (this would be a good update for it to happen):
  • American bison
  • Jaguar
  • Pronghorn

So there's a decent slant towards Africa, which gets bigger with this dlc. I'd imagine this is a prime opportunity to add those desert tags to those existing animals and add more desert foliage (especially from Africa).

I would have never ever thought that I would be more excited for the building pieces then the animals in the DLC. For me those Arabian buildings are the best that I have seen in this game and would use them in all of my zoos. Three different styles available of my beloved Morrocan, Mali and Egyptian styles are just exquisite 🄰

My all time favorite White rhino also looks amazing and would be the first animal that I will use along with the polar bear and his new requirements. I guess baby rhinos would also look fantastic and crazy cute.

Thank you Frontier for such an amazing pack. You totally rock 🤩

I love the pack! But I really wish we had more North African animals it’s gonna be a little awkward creating an area for North Africa right now in my zoo because it’s geographically structured. So I’m probably going to roll it all into my African area and make it an outpost sort of thing in the bigger story of the area (can’t wait to show you guys my zoo when I get a new computer!) But I really hope you guys add Arabic or west Asian animals because that’s the only way I’m going to make my vision of a proper Asian Silk Road work now. (PS please add Fossas Black Rhinos and Ratels)

actually, doesn't have jaguars in the desertic areas anymore, they are extinct there.

I was at Columbus on Saturday. There are two.
here’s a tweet on it: Source: https://mobile.twitter.com/columbuszoo/status/1370389552762880001

San Diego put Amur leopards in the African section, so oops. And it looks like Maryland’s died a few years ago: https://www.marylandzoo.org/news-an...and-zoo-says-farewell-african-leopard-hobbes/
When I was last there a decade ago, it was an African
Quick google suggests the AZA made a shift a few years ago to focus on Amur Leopards, and thus the replacements.

Nope, there's still some walking around in Northern Mexico and the southern United States. Just not too many. For now, hopefully.
they are completely extinct in EUA, and majority of mexico, and the remaining population there lives in rain forest areas with some exceptions, but they are a different sub-species
