Planet Zoo | Americas Animal Pack | Announce

The wasted potential for foliage... More palms, pampas grass, more tropical plants. So sad.

Man, we could've gotten hibiscus...

...Mexican morning glories (my favorite)...

...and bougainvillea, too...

Me when the pack is even more disappointing on the scenery side, one of the 3 animals i actually care about they completly butcherd the anatonomy of, but man that monkey and those metal pieces though 😔
Also afaik no update fr?
Thank you for making this feel even more like a cashgrab frontier, i get that you have to fix PC2 but ngl pretty rude to have a free update with each dlc only to stop at number 19
Imagine not butchering PC2s basic UI and actually including all the quality of life improvements and basic functionality of the PC1 and PZ at launch, what a concept
~~i take back part of what i said if there actually is an update but eh cant be that big if no one talks about it and it isnt mentioned once~~

Looking at the scenery, I feel mixed like most here, and like I felt for the past few items. All the 'new style' animal packs seem to have a weird mixture of some extremely useful items for detailed builders and some overly cartoonish items which are great for theme parks but less for zoos.

The confetti will be used though, as I needed something that looks like guests have thrown trash in the water, and this seems suitable. Not trying to say the item is trash btw, that's just a use I found for it.

I think the Bush Dog is definitely the highlight of this pack for me — I’m genuinely so excited to have them in the game! The American Flamingo looks fantastic and really shows how much Frontier has improved over time. The Bighorn Sheep is probably my least favorite out of the pack, but It's still really well-made.

I absolutely love the Coyote — the model is beautifully done and the puppies are just adorable. The White-Faced Saki is such a great addition too; I’ve been wanting another New World monkey for so long (hopefully Frontier picks up on that hint…). As for the Ocelot, it’s hands down one of the best cats in the game. That face model? Gorgeous. And the Greater Rhea looks great overall — the feathers and head are really well done — but I do agree that it feels more like an upgraded Ostrich than a proper Rhea. Hopefully Frontier takes a closer look at that.

Honestly, I was surprised by how much I ended up loving this pack. I didn’t think I would, but the animals have really won me over.

That said, I’m not a big fan of the scenery items. While I like the metal and wooden pieces, the rest just feels kind of… useless. It’s like the pieces were designed for Planet Coaster 2 instead of Planet Zoo, which is disappointing — especially since we didn’t get an Exhibit Animal this time. As someone who loves building, I just haven’t found the recent scenery pieces (especially in this pack) all that useful. Yes, there are a few good ones, but the overly colorful and themed ones really aren’t my style.

I wouldn’t have minded the scenery selection so much if we had at least gotten a new Exhibit Animal — especially with so many amazing reptiles, amphibians, and other species from the Americas still missing. The lack of a free update alongside this DLC also added to the disappointment. I get that Planet Zoo might not be Frontier’s main priority anymore (even though I think it deserves to be), but if we’re not getting big updates, then at least give us more foliage or recolorable options for the scenery pieces.

In the end, it’s really the animals — especially the Bush Dog — that are saving this pack for me. I just hope that if we do get another DLC in the future, Frontier truly listens to what the community has been asking for, because at this point, it should be clear.

I think the scenery falls under the WTE category. Seemingly weird, unusable at some points. But we could probably figure out different techniques to make these pieces work.
Yeah, I definitely would've liked more variety or something, but it's also kinda fun to experiment with pieces

After watching a couple of videos I have to say I'm actually very excited for the animals. The problem with rhea's wings is still there but do not look as bad as on the pictures. The bush dog is the star of the pack with a fantastic model, new animations and deep diving. The new flamingo is a major improvement to the old one and it's nice to see they've added unique sounds to the coyote. It's great to see Frontier still puts quite a bit of effort into the animals.
The scenery though...It feels very Zookeepers like, very repetitive. I love the texture of the new wood, a pity the smaller round pieces only come as a fence. The small metal pieces are very, very cool and useful. I also see myself using some of the flags for theming. But instead of the effort they put into the pinata, the confetti and all the little paper thingies, they should have rather create some new plants (watching at you pampas grass and california fan palm).
Overall still a good pack, maybe even a very good one considering the age of the game and the whole situation.
But I wish though we go back to normal animal packs with an exhibit animal instead of the scenery when the scenery continues to be this ambivalent.

The mulch talk make me realize how much i would like an "environment" update.

Like being able to select an gravel brush instead of the snow one, having more options of mulch and dead leaves, fungus, sessile animals such as sponges, corals and barnacles and maybe selecting the terrain "skin" (E.g being able to having grassland grass on a tropical zoo).

Would be a banger update.

Edit: also a plant brush would be fire.

After looking at a lot of footage of the new animals, I have to say that these are my major problems with every single one:

• Bush Dog: nothing to say
• Coyote: nothing to say
• Flamingo: definitely nothing to say here, absolutely stellar model.
• Saki: great model; I just wish they had a resting animation with their tail hanging down, kinda like how the siamang hangs from climbing frames or how the leopard lounges on branches
• Bighorn Sheep: the neck could be a little longer
• Ocelot: the tail feels too thin. Maybe on the shorter side as well, but mostly it looks very thin
• Rhea: if I look at the body and wings separately, then they both look amazing... It's just how the wings are placed and how they move that doesn't feel right. The wings almost move too much...? But they do look spectacular on their own. All in all, I just wish they changed the position of the wings a bit

I think it’s cool to see how rigs evolve and are reused over the years. As is rather well known in this community at this point, the Tasmanian devil was built off of the raccoon as a base, but had lots of new animations that made it feel unique. And now we have the bush dogs that, based off of reused animations like the sitting, sniffing and splooting, was probably based a lot on the Tasmanian devil rig whilst also receiving a lot of fresh new animations like the log enrichment item, their new social interaction and of course the deep diving (I think their walk/run cycle is different too).

To me the bush dog face needs a big redone. It doesn't really look like a bush dog, more like a bear mustelid hybrid.

Alright, this is very nitpicky, but I think the map of the saki is off. They live in a greater area than shown on the map, definitely south up to Manaus, Brazil where I've seen some on the wild. The map on Wikipedia also shows a wider range. Not anything that needs to be fixed, but good to be aware it's not totally accurate.

Yeah the Tassie runs in a very different way, almost hopping (I saw them in real life, it's kinda weird) while the bush dog looks like it's able to run in a relatively "normal" way...
I'm SO glad it's not just a fox or something. Reusing the Tassie Devil is one of the most creative and interesting things I've seen, and it produced great results
