Honestly I think this is a pack that will age well, kind of like Arid in that sense. On first impressions this can seem like a rather boring pack, but when people play this game long after development ends, these sort of animals will significantly add to the variety in gameplay and bulk out the roster with variation.
- Domestic animals/domestic props and petting zoo features essentially enable a whole new section for , or even a whole of, zoo to build. You could literally just build a farm, or add a petting zoo section for your zoo.
- Some people may be disappointed we don’t yet have rabbits and ducks but they still could come in other packs. Honestly I’d rather wild-types for those anyway over domestics. But at the end of the day when people go to build petting/farmyard areas in their zoos, you’ll be very happy you’ve got a generic goat, a generic sheep, a generic pig, a generic chicken, a generic cow, a generic donkey etc. It’d be annoying if you had the bare minimum of like 3-4 proper domestics/farmyard staples for your petting zoo.
As I said, they may be cloney on the surface but they can’t be substituted well. A petting zoo pack needs more than 4 species to be worth the effort given what petting zoos are and yet it also needs scenery. This pack hits a good medium, it gives a lot of domestics cheaply by making them largely clones, but also enables them to pop in some necessary scenery in place of fewer new rigs and no exhibit.
But let’s face it, the bulk of the content here is really intended to be from the update, this whole new interactive area you can create - the animals themselves in this pack are really just set dressing for the new petting zoo areas you can create.
I like it and domestics have never been at the top of my list, but you have to be a bit silly to have not expected a domestics pack at some point, we all knew it was coming. So even if this did end up being the last pack (i personally am inclined to think it isn’t) then you can’t be surprised it was a domestics pack considering we didn’t have it yet.
