Planet Zoo - Beta Dates Announcement 🐯

Okay first of all I love the new trailer and all he new animals. I love seeing the improvements on some of the ā€œolderā€ animals. I’m also very interesting in the veterinary aspect (which I might post a thread about it later or post in an already posted thread). The game looks so beautiful and amazing, it’s just incredible and it deserved to win that award.

However, I can’t lie and say my enthousiasm from watching the trailer has been let down after reading this post. I was hoping the beta would have been released somewhere in the next couple of weeks, which is my own assumption so it’s my own fault for getting disappointed about, but I absolutely didn’t expect to be getting the beta that late. 24th of September is without a doubt not summer anymore no matter the way you look at it. And to make things even worse, we only get 2 weeks to play it. (Especially when for people that are busy with work, school, hobbies,... most days). And unfortunately it doesn’t sound that the beta will be opened again between 8th of October and the release date. All in all the beta release is disappointing news to me.

By having the pre-launch Beta on 24 September we can ensure everyone will get to enjoy the most up-to-date and stable version of the game and that you have the best experience with your Zoo. The Beta is a full two weeks, which should give you plenty of time to enjoy the game ahead of launch.

The Planet Zoo Beta is designed to give you an early preview of Planet Zoo without spoiling the full experience on 5 November. You'll be able to enjoy the main features and a great selection of animals. You will also be of great help to our development teams who will be on the lookout for any bugs or problems you might encounter; allowing for improvements when the game launches.

I just think it would be better to let us play the beta until a few days before the game is released. Even if you only gave us 5 animals to play with. We will find more bugs and we will probably enjoy it more without having to think ā€œthe beta is ending in x daysā€.

Sorry I still don’t get why only 2 weeks. If we are that helpfull for detecting bugs, the longer we can play the more bugs we can find. Especially if there is already sandbox available in the game. There is a lot we could do and we would be able to relax and take things at our own pace. I know I’m pretty busy once the summer ends. I got work and music classes 3 days a week which would seriously reduce playing time for me and I’m sure there are other people too with busy schedules. I know that our schedules is out of your hands but it would have been nice to know it was a limited period before ordering. Guess I should just learn my lesson and not preorder so fast.
Anyway keep up the good work in developing the game.

I agree. The time limitation is the big problem here. The late date is bitter, but understandable. But the time limitation is simply problematic. I know we help you find bugs and all. I could live with bugs while playing, when I play the beta. But currently I'm paying to be able to help you. And no, the additional animals and the soundtrack (which will probably be uploaded by anyone to spotify anyway) is not helping.

The limited time beta should have been comunicated right away. Together with the fact that summer won't be summer.

As I said, I believe in this game. I look forward to it and it will probably acompany me many years. But please, Frontier, don't drift into a nonsense-communication with fans like a lo tot of other developers. You can do better! You always did better than others! Don't stop half way and maybe consider skipping the time limitation. Or call the "beta" "limited time demo pre-launch" next time. Just take the feedback we give serious and not just shove it away, because the game will be out in novembre anyway. Really, the argumentation doesn't make sense. Why should an early access until the official release spoil the fun for me? The game doesn't have huge problems that will want me to get a refund, does it? So playing it longer won't hurt.

You could have all waited with pre-ordering the deluxe version until the beta dates were revealed though (which is today), and THEN decide wether or not to invest the extra money, or just go for the base game and skip the beta.
If you're gonna make desicions before having all the information, you can end up being disappointed.
So I don't really agree with the critism here.

I haven't pre-ordered anything yet. I wanted more information first. Now that I do, I will make my decision.

I'm seriously missing something here. Are there really all these bitter people griping over freakin' 10 dollars. Seriously? It's $10. You can't even get a bad meal at McDonald's for that kind of money anymore. To me the decision was always a no brainer. Three extra fully-animated animals for only $10. And as a bonus at some point you'll have beta access. I bet a lot of the same whiny people will pay more than $10 for DL content later. If your finances are so tight that a one time expenditure of $10 is something you need to dwell on and obsess over for half a year you probably shouldn't be spending any money (or time) on luxury items like video games. Seriously people get some perspective.

Well, when I pre-ordered it said "beta in summer" and absolutely nothing about i time limitation. Saying we should have known better is like you buy meat at the butcher, later tell them there was salmonella in it and the butcher says: "You knew that this was a posibility." Lol.

Really, what angers me now is not the 10 € extra. By all means, take my additional money for a probably great developt game we've all been waiting for. You deserve it! What angers me is the commuinication now.

I'm really looking forward playing Planet Zoo! The hype is real!
I'm ok with the beta starting in autumn, but I really don't know how to get through Oct.8 until the full release.
It would be really great if you could rethink the beta closing. Why not leave it open until short before the release so we have something to manage our hype :)

Don't forget that words aren't contracts. Plans can change... even if they communicated it already. They communicated that it would be summer, now they updated that communication with september 24th, so what? I think people are too demanding these days. They all want things on demand... it's the problem of the On-demand culture now... "We pay and we want it right away." I am happy we can test it and help the development, even for just two weeks. Of course I would have loved to play for longer or have the full game earlier, but you can't always get what you want. I chose not to nitpick about it, I choose to smile and join the hype train anyway :)

It's not the money that I have a problem with. As a consumer you should get told the correct information when buying a product; this is a legal requirement for all products that are in the market - and this information was incorrect. A 'summer' release was promised and now I have to wait until autumn. I bought the game on the basis that I could play the beta over my summer holidays as im going into my last year of a-levels in September so will only really have time for study. unfortunately the information given by the developers was incorrect. I'm not totally against the game - im super excited for the release - just extremely disappointed as ive been mislead!

I can understand things can change and get pushed back, I just wish they would have communicated it towards us. Instead of letting hype build, let us take guesses which for us seem reasonable (because we don’t have all the information) and then have us disappointed.

But they do communicate it now? Do you want an apology or something?

It’s an expectations VS reality thing.
I’m hyped for the game. I will buy it (yes, I’m still waiting…). Maybe I must by a new PC to play it. I will buy that one too, if necessary. I would pay even more than the 55$ for the base game and I would gladly wait another year to the release.
BUT
The Beta got confirmed for summer and I got excited to be able to play the game then and to do so until release.

I’m aware something can always happen. Yes, I am a little bit disappointed that they couldn’t stay within ā€œsummerā€, but like I said, something can always happen, no hard feelings there.

Giving us only two weeks to play the beta is a whole other thing. They didn’t lie, don’t get me wrong, they never said something wrong there - I just… didn’t expect it and I don’t get why they would do that.

I’m happy with no updates until release in November, limited stuff and bad performance – it’s a beta. But since I really, really wasn’t expecting something like that, I am disappointed.

During the Beta, I don’t have much time to play. Half a weekend and a few evenings if I’m lucky. So yeah, I really have to think about whether to buy the Deluxe Version or not. The three extra animals are nice, but I had hoped for so much more…

Anyway, thanks for the new trailer and the informations.

Love the trailer, but really not happy about the restricted time limit and the late start for the Beta as everyone else has said 24th September isn't summer, and only two weeks beta time, I thought, based on Planco, we'd get it from the beta date right up untill the launch date. I'm not going to rescind my order for the Duluxe, because I want the music and the springbok, but I don't think this is quite fair.
