Planet Zoo - Beta Dates Announcement 🐯

That's how I understood it too. A kind of extended sandbox mode. Apart from that I hope for many switchable options in the corresponding menu. E. g. I think I can do without repairs and maintenance in sandbox mode.

When the beta of Planet Coaster was released, everyone who could use the beta had the opportunity to play the Beta until the official release. Why suddenly this restriction, which was not mentioned in advance and which, in my opinion, is a deception? I think a lot of people wouldn't have bought the beta in advance if they had known about this limitation.

They never specified how long the beta would be, so there's no deception. They never advertised it as to be the same as PlanCo's.
I understand people assumed or expected as much, but that's just that - assumptions and expectations put upon the devs. Past success does not guarantee future performance ;)

I would've liked it to be up until release too, but at first I actually thought they'd only do beta weekends when I assumed the beta would run from early summer up to release. I don't know what's better right now. I hope two weeks is enough to bug hunt for them, as well as enjoy a little early preview of the game.

I think a lot of people get hyped on their own expectations and assumptions, which is a hard habit to break to be honest! I think we all do it at one point or another. It's normal to think the beta might've been similar to PlanCo's, but if that was a dealbreaker for someone they would've been better off holding out until they had official info.

Maybe it's my age, but I stopped assuming stuff a very long time ago, and that saved me of a whole lot of dissapointments in my life.

Also, this was the Beta announcement of Planco:
The beta will open its gates on Wednesday November 9 for everyone who owns the Early Bird Edition or Thrillseeker Pre-Order of Planet Coaster (and all new Thrillseeker customers joining the community on or after the 9th) and will run all the way through until Planet Coaster launches on November 17.

It was even less days (8), the only difference being it right before the launch of the game, but that did not gave them enough time to fix several issues, that is a logical reason to have the beta be further ahead and not untill launch.

So, I'd say someone learned from their mistakes.

I agree and I have been refunded for my purchase of the deluxe edition, the 2 weeks limitation just isn't worth it for me.

I think this is the best solution for those that bought the Deluxe solely for the beta, indeed! Don't forget that this is still an option.

Ah yes, I think they might also have mixed it up with the Alpha that some people had access to. It seems wise to take time to implement and fix issues that were found in the beta and then releasing the full game. I just hope 2 weeks is enough time for beta players to dig up some bugs! Maybe a month beta and then a month to fix bugs would've been ideal. But game development is a rocky road sometimes, maybe that just didn't work out :)

Well, I wanted to show my support and confidence in Frontier too, I've enjoyed Planet Coaster since I bought it a few months back and I enjoyed Elite for a long time aswell, hence the pre-order, but like I say 2 weeks limitation and then a 4 week gap would just be a frustration for me.

Bo - Will those who played the beta in September have to start over at official launch in November? Will we lose what we built during the beta?

I purchased the coaster head club of Planco
The beta of Planco
every single DLC of Planco

Ive held off ordering Planzoo while we got details of the beta.

The summer thing im not over bothered about , but ......if it stays the same re the 2 week time limit of a scaled back demo , then im sorry but i'll not order the Delux edition.

Yes the games in development and you want to bring us the best version (that explanes the late date, fine) but theres no reason to not leave the beta running, dont turn it off a month before the games out?

My hype train has run out of steam , the game looks amaazing but i can make real life zoos in it like Chessington , West Mids, Wildlands or Busche Gardens.

I'll still but the game but just wont pay the extra for a 2 week demo, sorry, please re considered this

You're also paying for the three extra animals. Don't forget those.
With the coaster head edition for Planet Coaster you didn't get alpha access, so you did the beta from november 9th up until release (nov 17th) as Luuknoord stated, correct? That's 8 days. The only difference now is that it's not 2 weeks for release. So you're getting more days than you did with PlanCo. And Frontier has some time to clean up some bugs we might've found along the way.

I believe the scenario and franchise mode you play with the beta also turn into a 'sandbox' type of mode when you finished them (like how most scenarios tell you that you can continue building and working on them even though your objectives have finished).

My problem with the feature-limited beta is losing all my work and having to start over with the full game on launch. If that's the case, I'm not going to bother. I really would have preferred to get the fully completed game 2 weeks early instead - even 8 days early would be better than having to start over at launch. That would have been worth paying extra for. The extra animals will be sold as DLC later anyway.

I still think Planet Zoo is going to be a very fun game that I will spend a lot of hours with this coming fall/winter. I still think Frontier is a good company that is trying their best but their hype machine needs a little fine-tuning in the wording of their messages to manage expectations better.

I also still don't understand the rationale for enabling people to play for two weeks, and then taking the game away from them again. How does it help the developers if suddenly I cannot play the game for a few weeks? What difference does it make?

They have to take it away at the end of beta because it's not the full game. On launch day you'll still have to download the full version of the game and start all over.

I can totally understand that that version will no longer be supported. But I'm not quite getting how this is supposed to work, even in a technical sense. Presumably, the beta is only playable while the player is connected to the internet? Otherwise, one could just keeping using the .exe without going online, leaving no way for Frontier to actually keep you from playing it.

So what happens when you start Steam offline?

Nothing, because the game won't be up to date.
You need to start the game the first time in online mode, that's the moment these settings are set.

As soon as you download it, it will also have a coding that will disable launch after the 9th of october.

Any other method is basicly hacking the game which is (obviously) not a topic to be discussed on this forum.
